Chương 25: IS THIS A CHALLENGE?
"Whoosh" was heard from the oven door, as I swiftly took out the cookies that me and the makeshift pair of partners created during the boring class. Taking the two trays of cookies and placing them on some cooling rakes set on the table right behind me.
The sound of light sizzling from the trays fizzled as the cold air hit the cookies causing them to cool but the aroma could be smelled throughout the class from and into the hallways.
Other students walked over, to see how our cookies turned out sprouting seeds of jealousy and defeat. As on their side the look of burnt dessert played on the baking sheet.
"Wow, they look amazing, how did you do it? One other classmate said to the girl right next to me.
"I don't know it was all his doing, I'm a complete klutz in the kitchen." one of my partners said as she looked at the cookies, waiting for them to cool down so she could take a bite.
"You're pretty handy in the kitchen, I'm so jealous," another boy said, looking at the cookies in amazement.
"It is not really hard, all you have to do is follow a recipe, and watch it closely…so anybody can do it, really" I said, not trying to seem to want the praise.
"Well, I'm amazed," said the other boy
"Well, if y'all want some, y'all can have some, just leave one for the teacher to inspect" I said, going back to utilize the rest of the cookie dough.
Everyone standing there looking grabbed a cookie, as my partner grabbed another one for the teacher's review.
As I baked two more trays, I set the timer and waited, looking at the clock to see when the next class was starting.
As we only had 15 minutes left. I started to utilize my free time to clean up, before sitting down.
Not far from me talking in low voices, my partner was touching up their makeup. As the other girl cleaned her nail.
"Hey, are you going out this weekend?"
"Yeah, one of the boys from the basketball team asked, sooo not interested" she said with disinterest.
"You mean Nate, wasn't you like interested, like last week"
"Yeah, but like now I'm not, I got my eye on something else" she said, gesturing her body towards me, making the girl look my way as well.
"Girls like, you're sooo bad," the other girl said, pushing her arm. "Well, like if I can have, tall, dark and handsome, and he can cook. Over Nate…then like there is no contest" she said, before both giggled for a minute.
The ringing of the timer took the girls from there moment. As I had already gotten up and was checking the oven, before I pulled a cookie tray out. Set them down to cool again my partner. My other partner comes over and grabs the other one laying it down.
"Well we might as well hurry up before the bell rings" he said, grabbing a couple of baggies to place the cookies in.
We both placed an equal amount of cookie in each bag before the bell blared from the wall. Hurrying up I quickly cleaned the cookie sheet and placed them on the drying rack for the next class to use.
Grabbing my thing and headed out the door. As I walked through the threshold I was greeted by a young woman waiting for me. Her cinnamon brown hair was cropped to her shoulders, and her brown eyes looked up at me.
"Hey, Aiden right?" the girls said.
"Yeah, what good?" I said, wondering what she wanted.
"Haley Barnes, we just got done working together" she indicated as she was one of my partners in the cooking class.
Nice to formally meet you"
"Likewise…and I would like to know if you had plans this weekend, there's a party, and I was wondering if you would like to come?" she said, looking into my eyes as if pleading for me to join her this weekend.
"Uh, I heard about it, a couple of other people invited me as well" I said, thinking back to Jessica and Angela.
"Well if you want to go with someone, how bout.." she tried to say before she got interrupted.
"Aiden Wells" a voice said, as I turned my head towards where the voice was coming from.
I found from the corner of my eye, that a young golden blonde woman with alluring eyes was walking toward me. Her face is cold but beautiful from the light.
"Yes, and how may I help you?" looking at her with curiosity and interest. As this young lady is what Miss Hoff said would be a challenge for me.
"Le devoir de Mlle Hoffs est dû la semaine prochaine, et pour le bien du devoir, je préférerais parler en français." She said, jogging my memory to the assignment. She said, looking at me with intent.
(Miss Hoffs assignment is due next week, and for the sake of the assignment I would rather speak in french.)
"Ooh oui, je me souviens... Quand voulez-vous commencer?" I said, realizing
(Ooh yes, I remember...when do you want to start?)
But a subtle cough caught me off guard, as I noticed Haley hadn't left, as I forgot I was talking to her.
"I'm sorry for disregarding you, but to answer your question, if I do go, I will see you there." I said
"Oh ok" she said before slowly turning around and walking away, clearly disappointed by the situation.
Rosalie looked at me still unchanged as she said. "Est-ce que j'ai interrompu quelque chose?"
(Did I interrupt something?)
"Non, pas vraiment, veuillez continuer" I said, moving on from the situation.
(No, not really, please continue)
"Ok, après l'école, nous pouvons rencontrer le café en bas de la rue."
(Ok, After school, we can meet at the coffee shop down the street.)
"Je ne le recommanderais pas, c'est un peu trop bruyant, qu'en est-il de la bibliothèque, pas beaucoup de monde, pas de bruit, tout au plus on peut se concentrer sur la tâche à accomplir, qu'en dites-vous?" I said, looking to get her approval on the matter.
(I wouldn't recommend it, it is a little too noisy, how about the library, not a lot of people, no noise, at most we can focus on the task at hand, what do you say?)
"Je suis d'accord" she said, approving the quick plan.
(I agree)
"Aiden Wells" she said again.
"Tu peux simplement m'appeler Aiden" I said, correcting her action as the interaction was too formal.
(You can just call me Aiden)
"Aiden.. Mlle Hoff a dit que vous pourriez être un défi pour moi, et j'espère que c'est vrai" she said before she gracefully walked away, swing her hips, in the other direction of me.
(Aiden.. Miss Hoff said you might be a challenge for me, and I hope that is true.)
Aiden, perplexed by what she just said, noticed that she had a slight smile to her, as if she was intrigued by that fact.
And in turn made him thrilled as well.
"Tout est juste en amour et en guerre" I said to myself. "Tout est juste"
