The Chief's lips bent into a smile, seemingly unaware of her growing unease. "Tell me more about your son. I'd like to hear about him."

"W–What do you want to know?"

"For example, has he behaved out of the norm? Has he told you something that's completely absurd? Something about me… perhaps?" With each sentence that came out of his mouth, Mother Rui's complexion paled further and an obvious panic flashed in her eyes despite her efforts to conceal it. W–What did he mean by that? Did he know something about Rui Ye? No, how could it be possible? She had ensured that no third person knew about her son's abnormality, even going as far as to gouge his eyes out!

"C–Chief—" she began, but the old man gave her no chance to speak. 

"Has he?" he pressed on, his heavy gaze bearing down on her. "Come to think of it, you never answered my question back then. Who's his father?"
