I didn’t know what to say to him. His blunt confession left me feeling flustered and made me want to go back to my room to hide. The last thing I wanted to do was give him the wrong impression, he was a kind man but I didn’t want him to look at me that way.
“I…” I cleared my throat. “I wanted to thank you for bringing me back home. I know you risked your lives for me and I appreciate all that you and your men had done. My entire family is thankful to you.”
Malcom smiled a little. “I was honored to be the one to save you. I would have done it a million times over, Patara. I can’t imagine how relieved you must be to be home and away from those monsters. Especially Dylan.”
I forced a smile and folded my hands in my lap. He didn’t have to know that I missed Dylan more than I had ever missed being here. Just the sound of his name made me want to run out that door and find him to see if he was okay.
