"What happened after the bombs dropped, Hudson? Are Elise and Marceline okay?" I asked, the calmness in my voice belying the turmoil of emotions churning within me. Hudson's reaction was subtle but noticeable; he momentarily froze before quickly regaining his composure, looking as unbothered as he usually did. Without missing a beat, he began to speak, addressing my question.
"Well, after the bombs dropped, I used a little bit of that good ol' demon magic to teleport Elise and Marcy to safety," Abadeer began, his voice maintaining a somewhat upbeat tone despite the somber topic. "But sadly, Elise realized what I was and didn't want to have anything to do with me. In her own words, I was a 'soul-eating monster,' so I left her and Marcy and went back to do my job in the Nightosphere."
He paused for a moment, his expression betraying a hint of bitterness before continuing, "But wouldn't you know it, turns out I couldn't come back into the human world. Years later, I found myself surprised to discover that a man with skin bluer than mine had summoned me to watch over my daughter. And from my guess, the only reason Elise wasn't with her was because she died a slow, painful death from the cancer she refused to let me get rid of, citing once again how I was evil."
Despite Abadeer's attempt to keep his tone upbeat, I could sense the underlying current of anger and frustration beneath his neutral smile.
"That's sad to hear. So, does that mean Marceline is nearby?" I inquired, receiving a nod from Abadeer in response. He requested somewhere to sit, citing his age and the discomfort of standing for too long. Without hesitation, I conjured up two chairs for us to sit down in.
Honestly, we didn't talk much afterward. We took turns asking questions, with my inquiries mainly focused on the magical forces of the world and how he recognized me. He explained that he could see souls, which I found quite interesting. However, after a while, I brought up the reason I was here.
"So, Hunson, I was asked by the survivors to come investigate the disappearance of some people they sent to this town. Do you know anything about them?" I inquired, prompting Hudson to enter a pensive pose. After a moment of contemplation, he seemed to recall something, speaking up in response.
"No, but I remember some other weird humans taking them away, and since they were not bothering Marceline, I didn't bother chasing them," Hudson replied, his words adding another layer of questions to my mind, fueling my desire to leave and investigate.
"Can you let me out? I want to quickly go search for the strange humans you were talking about," I requested, receiving a nod from Abadeer. With a simple wave of his hand, he released me from my Mindscape, and suddenly, I found myself and him standing in the middle of the road where we first met.
"Hey Hunson after i'm done with my investigation can I go see Marceline?" I asked causing Hunson to stare at me for a uncomfortably long moments before smiling his sharp serrated teeth widening into sinister grin as he nodded.
"Sure, just make sure you bring her a gift for her birthday coming up in a few weeks," Abadeer reminded me before I departed. With his words lingering in my mind, I set off in the direction where Hudson had mentioned seeing the strange humans go. As I walked, a guess started to form in my mind, the knowledge that I was in Adventure Time giving me an idea of who the strange humans might be.
