Chương 1: [The Vow - 1]

//Here we go again.

This MC is gonna be a bit of a terrifying combo. A combination of Jetstream Sam, Raiden and horny Vergil. Now that's true horror...

I will repeat this again, just because a character bears the name of someone you know from a different series doesn't make them the actual fucking character.

Also, it IS possible for someone to have an affinity for two magics, not elemental ones, and simultaneously have spells for them in a single grimoire without requiring another one, correct? Just asking for the future, which may or may not relate to an OC.

[Harem]

-Lily Aquaria

-Noelle Silva

-Mimosa Vermillion

-Rebecca Scarlet

-Secré Swallowtail / Nero

-Vanessa Enoteca

-Mereoleona Vermillion [maybe]

-Anyone else? Make it sensible, Charlotte is a no-go... maybe.

PS: for those who are whiny bitches that will complain in comments about some oddity in the text and my way of interpreting characters... not every myth, not every legend and certainly not every story is 100% true to history. Also, fuck off.//

================================================================

A long, long time ago, when the shadows first lengthened and demons ran amok, one stood. A man of strong resolve, a man of determination, sheer fucking will and magical might that very few could hope to match. This man, whose name would forever be etched in history as the First Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom and the protector of the world from forces beyond salvation. A tale older than most works of fiction in the capital's library, known to everyone across the kingdom.

Yet, this fable is... incomplete. Those who have read the legend know that the First Wizard King hadn't just fought with demons, the likes people imagine having hooves and horns, but devils as well. Terrifying entities that crawled from hell, beasts of chaotic mana that devour and conquer everything around them. But there was one demon who had nearly bested the First Wizard King in battle, a mighty swordsman bearing the title the Legendary Dark Knight. An incarnation of power, might and evil. The demon's name would not be remembered by the human population for the mere mention of it spelt bad luck for millennia to come.

But the oldest archives depict the demon's name as...

...Sparda.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Loud crackles and booms echoed through the afternoon blue sky all the way from the capital of the Clover Kingdom to a small, humble commoner village in the boonies of the kingdom, located in the Forsaken Realm just by a massive decomposing skull of a colossal demon. The village bears the simple name Hage, and just like its simplistic name, the inhabitants live simple lives.

Most of them focused on working in the fields as farmers, and some owned shops that sold simple goods like food and tools. There was also a woodworker in the village that received frequent customers, a travelling merchant that came every once in a while and an average-level skill blacksmith. There was also a church that acted both as a place of worship and as a home for the unwanted. In lamen terms, an orphanage.

It is here where our story begins...

"SISTER LILY! PLEASE MARRY ME!"

With a loud and obnoxious scream.

A young lad kneeled in front of a girl not much older than him dressed in a nun's outfit. The short man held a bouquet of flowers in front of the girl for what many assumed to be the umpteenth time this week. He was short, surprisingly muscular and had a wild tuff of white hair on his head.

This loud obnoxious kid was Asta, an orphan from the very church the girl he was proposing to was the nun at. The girl's name was Lily Aquaria, but most people just called her "Sister Lily", just like Asta had. She was something of an unapproachable beauty, considering she was very pretty but was VERY devoted to her role as a sister of the church. As such, any boys that would confess their love to her would either be warded off by Asta or straight up rejected by her.

Unfortunately for the silver-haired boy...

"STOP PESTERING ME!"

[Water Creation Magic: Holy Fist of Love]

His fate was no different to the rest.

First, a floating book manifested itself in an open form by Sister Lily's side, encompassed in a beautiful blue glow before a literal giant fist of water slammed into Asta, burying him head-first into the ground.

Only after Asta's empty head had been smashed into the ground did Sister Lily realize what she had done and immediately put her grimoire disappear, worrying about Asta's physical condition.

"I'm sorry, Asta! I accidentally used the grimoire's magic without realizing!"

But, Asta was unfazed by the attack, pulled his head from the dirt and stone with his signature yet still obnoxiously loud yell and hopped back onto his feet. He wasn't going to give up that easily, he never had and never will.

"NOT YEEEEEEEEET-"

-SLAM-

Unfortunately for him, a powerful gust of wind threw him back a couple of meters. The courtesy of this strong wind was another man, taller and leaner than Asta and much more attractive. He had black hair and the demeanour befitting his Wind Magic attribute. His name is Yuno, and he is the same age as Asta. He's also his brother, although not by blood. They were both left by the church's doorstep when they were just infants with nothing but two pieces of paper depicting their names. Following Yuno was a small group of young kids, some could barely walk. They were the other kids that occupied the same orphanage as these two foster brothers.

"Are you making a ruckus again, Asta?" asked a small and short girl with a very puffy haircut, her name was Recca.

"How many rejections will it take you to get a hint?" this time it was a short and young boy that chimed in, his name was Nash.

"ARGH! SHUT UP! YUNO, WHY ARE YOU GETTING IN THE WAY?!" there goes Asta doing his signature Pepega Screech.

"Why? You're noisy, short, restless and immature. Basically, you have no qualities that appeal to women," Yuno's words pierced Asta like a million stabs, but he was still far too stubborn to back down.

"HEY! HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT TO A GUY YOU SPENT THE LAST 15 YEARS GROWING UP WITH?!"

But Yuno was just about done listening to Asta's obnoxious voice and had already moved past him to help Sister Lily with her chores, which, at the moment consisted of putting up some wet clothes to dry.

"Don't ignore-"

-SLAM-

Asta was immediately silenced when a rather thin but hard book was slammed right in the middle of his head at full force, stopping both his yelling, train of thought and just about any activity that might have been happening up there in his empty noggin'.

"Quiet down."

The perpetrator was revealed to be a tall, lean but muscular male of young age, the very same as Sister Lily. He had white hair that was cut in a way that it wouldn't look too out of place, it barely touched his shoulders. It was orderly in a disorderly manner. He wore regular peasant clothes, which were just a black leather jacket over a white cotton shirt, dark brown pants and black boots. His skin was pale, but not overly so and his eyes were a beautiful blue colour.

"ACK!"

Asta fell backwards like a statue after being hit on the head by the white-haired man's book. The man only sighed as he put his brown hardback book back into the pocket on the inside of his jacket.

"Sigh. I brought ham."

"HAM!"

The kids SWARMED the poor man as he handed them a small paper bag containing the pieces of the meat that they so desperately craved. Seriously, it was far too easy to please these children. Just buy them something nice and they'll be all over it... it was honestly so cute it made him sick from the sweetness. Damn kids...

"Welcome back!" greeted Sister Lily as she tried to push the kids away from the tall man, giving him at least some room to breathe.

"Thank you, Lily. I see someone's still just as loud as always..." the ire in the man's voice was very evident as he gave the knocked-out Asta a passing glance.

"Nothing out of the ordinary, I suppose," Sister Lily sweatdropped at the somewhat brutish nature of the boy that just arrived, but, at least it was effective... and Asta would just bounce back in a few minutes or so like he always did!

Yuno greeted him with a courteous nod while the white-haired man gave him a small wave as the wind-mage returned to his (technically Sister Lily's) chores. Hearing the commotion happening outside of his church, the elderly priest that oversaw the church/orphanage made his appearance. His name is Father Orsi Orfai, but everyone just calls him Father.

"What's with all this racket?"

Nash, the ever-sincere boy replied with the obvious answer, "Just Asta bein' annoying."

"Sigh, not sure why I thought otherwise..." Father Orsi had an almost dead look in his eyes as he looked at the knocked-out loudmouth.

To someone from the outside, it might have looked as if everyone here hated Asta in some form or another, but this was simply not the case. Nobody hated Asta, at least, not in his own home. No, Asta was a part of their family and they loved him just like everybody else. It was just extremely tiring and annoying to hear him yell every other day about how he was going to become the next Wizard King and marry Sister Lily (much to her vexation). Yuno was Asta's foster brother, closer to him than anybody else. He knew that Asta meant well, even if he had a very dumb way of doing things.

Father Orsi just rubbed his eyes and sighed before noticing that the kids that were previously hanging around Yuno run past him with a paper bag in their hands screaming "HAM! HAM!". He couldn't help but rise an eyebrow at the scene before noticing the tall white-haired man just standing there with a neutral expression.

"Hello, Father."

"Oh! Welcome back! How was work today?"

"Manageable. Here's the leftover yul," the white-haired male handed the priest a small brown pouch that jingled in the priest's hand.

"Oh! Thank you very much!"

The priest rushed off to put the money he was given in the church's chest so that nobody could just steal it off of him. Now it was just Yuno, Sister Lily and the still unnamed white-haired man standing outside.

"Do we need firewood?" asked the tall male.

"There should be some by the back," replied Yuno as he finished drying clothes with his wind magic.

"Alright."

The tall white-haired man had immediately headed towards the back of the church where they keep their firewood. He almost didn't notice that the nun was following him in hopes of lending some help as well as talking some things over with him.

"Lily, do you need something?" he didn't even look at her as he picked up a fresh log of oak wood, and an axe and got to work splitting the wood into manageable pieces with fast and almost professional strikes.

"...You don't need to keep giving the money you make to us, you know?"

The man paused in his wood-chopping before resuming shortly after, "Lily, it's fine. We talk about this every other day."

"Yes but you should at least buy something for yourself with it!" the nun still continued to protest against the man's choice to keep giving his hard-earned money to the place that raised him.

"I bought the ham, didn't I?"

"Yes but that's not that much different! You should at least keep some money for yourself... It makes us feel bad..."

He stopped chopping the wood again, this time letting out a loud sigh, "Lily, I told you, I buy things for myself. I bought that William Blake book a while back didn't I?"

"But-"

"Lily, it's fine."

The man's firm voice made the nun quiet down, still, she didn't like that he was giving them the money he earned from working at a woodworker's shop. In other words, this man was practically a young carpenter/lumberjack that cut wood and made furniture to make money that he would then almost unceremoniously donate to the church. It wouldn't have been such an issue if he at least kept SOME of the money for himself. But no, he just bought something, like that ham today, and just gave the rest of his savings to either Father Orsi or Sister Lily to use.

"...I still think you should at least keep some of the money."

The man just huffed silently before returning to his work, "Don't worry, I don't need it. Besides, the little ones were happy, weren't they?"

Sister Lily seemed to contemplate his words for just a minute before sighing, a small smile appearing on her face, "Yes, I suppose so. I'll put these in a pile."

"I can do-"

"Let. Me. Help."

The man shut up the instant he heard the woman's deadly tone and just quietly returned to chopping wood while the nun giggled and happily organized the cut firewood into a pile. This was a nice, simple and quiet life. One that neither of them disliked. But, still, doing something like this, just... chopping wood with an axe made the white-haired man feel... unsatisfied. Even angry. But not at anyone or anything, certainly not at the beautiful and curvy nun helping him... but rather, at himself. He was angry at himself for not being able to do more. To be better. His work may have satisfied others but it certainly did not satisfy himself. He could sense mana, the magical energy in this world and he could tell that he had copious amounts of it. Yet, no matter how much he would try, he could never conjure it like Sister Lily or Yuno... It was like he was... missing something.

"Okay, that should be enough."

Sister Lily's words brought the man back from his daze and he immediately stopped chopping wood, he placed the axe back in its place and together with the pretty nun, he carried the cut pieces of firewood into the church for later use. Asta was already gone, no surprise there as he would always vanish around this time to god knows where.

By the time he was finished with his work and chores, it was evening. The white-haired man had very few hobbies that he liked to do and actually had time to do. But, reading was an activity he did whenever he could as he always carried around a slim, brown, hardback book with him. It had beautiful yet slightly jaded details with a large V on the cover. The man had decided to read some of his favourite poems from the book outside, sitting on a handmade bench that he himself had created not long ago as the sun provided him sufficient light to read the text on the white pages.

His solitude would not last long however as some sat beside him before he could finish his daily hour of reading. It was Sister Lily, unsurprisingly. She had been... well, very close to him from the start. They were the same age, after all, both did their best for those around them and, somewhat depressingly, had very few aspirations for the future.

"Reading again?"

"Yes. What's up?" the man temporarily looked away from his book to see that Sister Lily looked a little bit worried.

"Oh, nothing, it's just that... I'm a bit worried..."

"About what?"

"Asta."

"Hm? Why? He seems pretty self-confident if you ask me."

"It's not that... it's... well, you know that Asta has troubles with his magic, right?"

"The magic he doesn't have, you mean?"

"I-... Yes..."

"Mhm."

"Well... the awarding ceremony is close and I..."

"You're worried he won't get a grimoire and will be devastated."

"...Yes... Look, I know it sounds dumb. But, I don't want anyone to have to go through that. Asta may be annoying, and he might pester me all the time, but he means well. You even refused to go to the awarding ceremony last year because you wanted to wait for Yuno and Asta! But..."

The male sighed as he tightly shut his book. It was true that he held off going to the ceremony for a year under the presumption that he would wait for his two foster brothers, but that was a lie. He didn't mean it in a bad way... but... with his ineptitude for mana control, it felt impossible to receive a grimoire. In other words, he had no self-confidence. But, this isn't about that. Asta was a confident guy that stemmed most of his strength from his lack of brain. His mana was practically nonexistent, not even a tiny smidge could be felt. But, somehow, he didn't really worry about him all that much. It was almost as if he knew that deep down, Asta wouldn't give up just because he didn't receive a grimoire...

"Sigh, he will be fine. He's Asta, he'll just try a year later. And a year after that, and a year after that. Hell, he might just yoink one from the tower if it annoys him too much."

The two of them lightly laughed at the idea that was actually feasible. Asta was dumb and dedicated enough to actually try and do that... Now they're both slightly worried about his future. But, that is something that can be held off until March when the awarding ceremony happens.

"Hahaha, you know, sometimes I can't tell if you're being nice intentionally or not."

"Should I take that as a compliment?"

"-giggle- Take it as you will..."

"Heh, alright then."

The two of them just sat there talking, although it mostly felt like it was Sister Lily venting about her frustrations. This wasn't an uncommon thing, not at all. The young nun had found some manner of solace in spending time with this man as he was just about the only person that could somewhat relate to her problems, give her advice AND make her feel better at the same time. Before long, it was late and the sun had already begun to set.

The man had stood up from the bench with a loud exhale, clearly not happy about having to move from his position, "I'll go and fetch Asta, be right back."

Sister Lily gave the man a light wave as she watched him leave with a small smile and a barely noticeable blush, "Okay, don't take too long..."
