Chương 22: Love in the Shadows
Setting: A public park on a sunny afternoon.
Emilia had been feeling better lately, thanks to the calming influence of her aunt and the peace of the small village they now called home. She had almost forgotten about the cursed book that had haunted her for so long, until one day she met Wiliam.
He was handsome, with bright green eyes and a smile that made her heart flutter. They struck up a conversation as they both sat on a bench in the park, and Emilia found herself opening up to him in a way she hadn't with anyone else.
As they talked, Emilia couldn't help but feel a sense of joy and excitement. It had been so long since she had felt this way about someone, and she savored the feeling.
But as they were walking home, Emilia couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She kept glancing over her shoulder, but there was no one there.
"Wiliam, do you feel like we're being followed?" she asked, her voice low.
Wiliam looked around, his eyes scanning the area. "I don't see anyone," he replied, his voice calm. "But if it makes you feel better, we can walk a little faster."
Emilia nodded, feeling a sense of unease. They picked up the pace, but as they turned a corner, they were suddenly confronted by a figure in a black cloak.
Emilia gasped, her heart racing. "Who are you?" she demanded, her voice shaking.
The figure stepped closer, and Emilia could see that it was a woman with dark eyes and long, tangled hair. "You should be careful who you talk to, Emilia," the woman hissed, her voice cold. "Not everyone is what they seem."
Emilia felt a sense of fear wash over her, and she clutched Wiliam's arm tightly. "Who are you?" she repeated, her voice firmer this time.
The woman smiled, a cruel twist of her lips. "You can call me the Shadow," she said, before disappearing into the darkness.
Emilia and Wiliam stood there for a moment, their hearts pounding in their chests. Emilia couldn't help but wonder who this woman was and what she wanted from her.
As they continued on their way, Emilia couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She didn't know what the Shadow wanted, but she knew that she needed to find out before it was too late.
