Chương 38: Battle of two Eras (2)
"Grandpa your-" Nolan wanted to say something but was interrupted by Ben.
"Concentrate on the battle... We have a much bigger problem at our hands." Ben said, teleporting them as far as he could. "If we get distracted, it will cost us more than just my arm... The battle has just begun."
The adult Dragon nudged the juvenile Dragon with its nose but the latter didn't respond to it. After Nolan had removed its liver from its body and crushed its inner organs, there was no way for him to recover. Even if Dragons are the masters of mana, there are certain lines they don't cross, among them are reviving the dead. If only the adult Dragon had woken up earlier, the death of its comrade would have been prevented.
"Humans..." The adult Dragon's voice made the mana surrounding all of them gather around them as it pressured down on the two invaders, growling painfully as tears swelled in its eyes. "Why do you kill us? What have we ever done to you?"
"If you have never invaded our world... Then all of this could be prevented, the existence of your entire race is a threat to us." Nolan answered.
"Is that so?" Multiple magic circles surrounded the adult Dragon as it said. "Then so be it."
A small tornado made of lava formed in front of the Dragon as it flapped its wings, sending it towards the two humans as it melted everything in its path.
Swoosh
Nolan stomped on the ground, making a huge iceberg, rise from the ground.
Lava splattered everywhere as the two opposing elements crashed into each other.
'Is it magic? Wasn't he a metahuman? Something doesn't feel right...' the dragon thought. It cast a spell on its eyes to see if it was an illusion but nothing caught his eyes.
Swoosh
Surprising the dragon, a huge stone lance pierced through the iceberg, hitting the adult Dragon as it barely parried it with its wings.
'My wings are damaged, this human is as strong as a juvenile of our race... With that other human aiding him, he will dodge all my blows. I should take care of the other human first.' The Dragon vanished from his original spot, appearing behind them in an instant. He had used wind and lightning spells together to increase his speed. Although he was not as fast as an A-rank speedster, that was enough to surprise his opponents.
Crackle Crackle
He fired off multiple thunderbolts enhanced with light magic to increase their speed, unable to keep up with it, his opponents fell victim to his attacks as those bolts of lightning pierced through their body, making them drop lifelessly on the ground.
"Were they really this weak?" The dragon asked itself, walking closer to the corpses as one of them smiled at him.
"Human... Why are you smiling?" The dragon asked, to which Grandpa Ben pointed his finger toward the sky.
The Dragon looked at the sky, curious about the thing that made a human laugh in their final moments.
However... The sight he saw, made his entire body shiver...
In the sky an old man was sitting on a transparent throne made of psychic energy, he rested his head on his left hand with an aloof expression on his face. Beside him was a man standing in the air. Both of their figures were so majestic and divine that the Dragon thought they were Gods in the body of mortals.
The Dragon looked down, as he saw everything around him transform into a wasteland. The one that he was standing on was none other than his comrade. The juvenile Dragon had several holes throughout his body, his bloody corpse lay cold on the ground under the foot of the adult Dragon. The juvenile Dragon had fought him even after losing his liver, he had used the mana to temporarily keep himself going, hoping to deal a significant blow to the humans. Who would have thought that such a noble warrior would be put down by his comrade?
The same comrade who he thought was killed by the humans.
In reality... He was the one who killed him.
All this time, he had been in an illusion, the one he was fighting wasn't a human but a fellow Dragon.
'I-I killed him? Was everything an illusion? This can't be happening! This is also an illusion, right?! This has to be!' the Dragon was mindbroken. He could no longer discern, illusions from reality. Killing his comrade and committing genocide drove him insane.
"To fool your enemies, you should not only fool yourself but also your allies. Even a young Sage Force user knows this." Grandpa Ben said.
Although grandpa Ben talks a lot, he is an experienced veteran who is overpowered for a reason. As a Sage Force user, not only is he extremely versatile but also very dangerous. His illusions have reached such a level that he can even control the emotions and feelings of those who are trapped in it.
Although he has long passed his prime self, his experience makes him one of the ten strongest characters in my novel at the age of four hundred years.
His creative imaginations made his meta ability even more overpowered than it already is. Unless his opponent has an extremely strong will like Steve, they are bound to get trapped in it.
His ability also let's him teleport in an instant, making him an annoying opponent to deal with. However, that's not all, his combat abilities are on a completely different level, I guess that's a story for another day.
It was really disheartening for me to kill him off in the third volume, however he will always be one of my favourite characters in this novel.
"I think we should finish him off, he is also a warrior like us. It must be disheartening to him to lose a comrade like that," Nolan said, ready to bring out one of his strongest domains to end the fight.
"Do it then. I am tired of using so much stamina as well, my old bones can't handle such a prolonged battle any longer." Ben replied.
"Domain Creation: Purgatory."
