Chương 64: His Question Inevitably Made Her Recalled That Sad Yet Strange Night

The two of them left the parking area. Slowly, as their feet brought them to the street that was filled with lights, little by little the merriment of the area lifting up their moods.

Aside from the visitors who were either talking to their friends and partners or even taking photos to commemorate their time there, there were also booth vendors who set up small stalls at the roadside. Music blasted in the air, passing down the street.

The vendors were selling handcrafted items, spring clothes, toys and even food. The acceptance of the visitors toward the stalls was great as they kept stopping from one stall to the next.

Both of them continued walking yet no one said a thing.

Himari silently looked at Kazuya beside her.

He kept pressing his lips together. His brows almost knitted together from time to time. Both of his hands were put inside his pockets, the moving bulges appeared as if he was clenching and unclenching his fists.

All of his little actions showed that he was having something troubling him right now.

"Kazuya, didn't you say you want to talk to me about something?" Himari took the first step to disperse the silence between them, "What it is? You look restless."

The lady's words brought him back to reality. Kazuya paused his steps, lowering his gaze to her yet he still said nothing.

Himari stopped walking too. She patiently waited for him to speak.

"I do have something to talk to you about," Kazuya opened his mouth after a long expanse of silence, "It's just... I do not know how to say it."

"It is about Chiharu and Izumi?" Himari made a guess.

Kazuya lightly shook his head. He exhaled a long sigh. Darting his eyes left and right, his gaze finally fell on a place.

With one hand pointed to the direction, he said, "Why don't we sit down first?"

There was an empty bench placed under a lamp pole, a bit far from the twinkling cherry blossom trees.

Himari just agreed with him. The man and the woman walked again.

They sat on the bench. Once again, Kazuya appeared listless. Even so, at this time, Himari didn't push him with more questions. She just let him took his time.

She couldn't help but wonder, what made this man who had always look carefree and confident to be at a loss of words?

As Himari was thinking with her eyes drifted from one place to the next, they settled on one of the booths located on the other side of the street.

"Kazuya, wait here for a moment."

Himari stood up, threw the words to him and ran to the booth before Kazuya could say anything. He ended up watching her stopping at the booth that was selling beverages.

Was she thirsty?

Unknown to what Kazuya was thinking, Himari queued at the booth. There were two more people in front of her. After some time, it was finally her turn.

"Please give me two cups of cherry blossom tea," She made her order.

Soon, the seller placed two small spoons of pickled cherry blossom petals inside two paper cups each. He brewed the tea, letting the floating petals spread out in the hot water before he covered the cups with the lids.

Himari quickly paid for the tea, thanked the seller and rushed back to Kazuya.

Kazuya was stunned when he saw the lady ran to him with both her long hair and her dress billowed out around her.

Himari reached out a hand, lightly shaking the cup in her hand, "For you, cherry blossom tea. Ah, if you do not favor the salty taste, the seller gave me a spoon to remove the pickled petals."

Her words made him smiled.

"I don't mind. Thank you."

The cup got transferred from her hand to his. One of his fingers brushed her pinkie, discerning the softness of her skin.

Himari sat down next to him. Both of them savored the tea. The warmth of the cups seeped into their hands, warming them in the cool spring night.

Drinking this tea reminded Himari of her mother. Her mother always pickled cherry blossom petals once the flowers bloomed in spring. She couldn't wait to go home tomorrow.

"Himari, I actually want to ask you about something personal."

After drinking half a cup of cherry blossom tea, Kazuya finally let the words came out of his mouth.

He shouldn't delay it any longer. It would just make him anxious as well as confusing her.

"Something personal?" Himari raised her brows. With both hands holding the cup, she moved her chin toward him to see his side profile, "What it is?"

Never did she expect Kazuya would ask questions about something personal from her.

What was wrong?

"Before, you said that you broke up with that man at the hotel three years ago. I wonder if something else happened on that night, inside the same hotel?"

The man's words baffled Himari.

Why did Kazuya suddenly mention it?

It was true that she herself told him about her breaking up with Jun in the hotel, but, why did he extend his question to what else she experienced there?

Did she ever mention something else when she told him about it during their picnic last week?

Yet, his question made her mind inevitably recalled that night.

That sad yet strange night.

Himari retracted her gaze from Kazuya, lowering her eyes to the paper cup that was held firmly in between her palms.

"That night, I stayed at the hotel. Nanako told me it's better to nurse my broken heart in a five-star hotel room instead of returning to my small apartment. So, I did."

If not because of Nanako's encouragement and the voucher that she specially gave to her, Himari would really return home.

Her real intention was to soothe herself in the hotel room.

But, something else happened.

Himari suddenly broke into a laugh.

Kazuya lifted up his brows, feeling weird when she laughed.

How could she laugh?

Wasn't that night made her sad and afraid?

Or, did she really not remember it?

Soon, her words dispelled his worries.

"Hehe, do you know, I encountered a strange event on that night," Himari's lips curled up. She looked up, turned toward him and continued.

Her voice was soft, sounded carefree, "Someone barged into my room. I knew it's dangerous but, I was really panicked at that time to think about what I should do. In the end, I just let him stay. Ah! But, nothing happened between us! Really!"

Himari quickly added the last sentence, afraid Kazuya would misunderstand.

She rarely recalled that night but, once she did, she would laugh by herself.

"Weren't you really scared about that man? How could you just let him be?" Kazuya lowered his voice.

Himari tilted her head, thinking back of that uncanny night.

"Well, I think he was drugged, intoxicated. He spent most time inside the bathroom. When he finally came out, his whole body was wet with cold water all over. He asked if I could let him hide inside the room so, I did. He has even apologized to me for causing a disturbance."

Kazuya was in a complicated mood.

This girl! How could she let a stranger stay inside a hotel room with her? Didn't she has any sense of danger?

Well, even though she had actually helped him by hiding him, but, Kazuya was still distressed.

He wanted to erupt in frustration but, he held himself back.

The scene of her crying in her sleep slowly floated in his mind before the image gradually became clearer.

At that time, did it happen because her feelings were in disarray due to the breakup? After all, it was the man that she loved for years before she initiated the separation.

How could she not feel sad?

No matter which party brought up the breakup in the first place, it was still a sad thing.

Kazuya pursed his lips, thinking of his resolve to admit that man was him.

He wanted to be truthful but, he was afraid she would feel scared of him later.

Yet, he couldn't be peaceful as long as he didn't admit to it.

That was why he strengthen his heart and asked her out for a meeting.

The longer he delayed the matter, the more he would feel guilty whenever he saw her smiling and laughing beside him.

"That man... Have you ever thought who is him?" Kazuya's voice got a little lower than before. He tightly held the paper cup, almost crumpling it.

Himari didn't immediately answer his question. She pondered in silence before letting out a soft 'En."

"He left me his business card and a note, saying that I should reach out to him if I ever needed his help," admitted Himari.

"...Did you throw those out?" Kazuya was startled at the mention of the name card and the note.

Himari shook her head, "I didn't throw them out. I remember I put them inside a book but, I couldn't remember which one. En, is it my old planner or a random novel?"

While Himari was thinking, Kazuya didn't know either to laugh or cry.

He had always thought that she had tossed the card and note inside a dustbin as early as three years ago.

"Then, why haven't you contacted him? It is because you're not in trouble?" Kazuya cautiously asked another question.

But, instead of having an answer, Himari stared at him with confusion written all over her face.

Her eyes right now appeared as if she was contemplating what was wrong with him.

Kazuya gulped, "...Himari?"

Did he has exposed himself before admitting to her first?

Chương 65: What Kind of a Strange Fate Was This?

The music blasted from the booths mixed with people's chatters, filling the air with the joyful ambiance. The visitors were happily spending time at the brightly lit streets with rows and rows of cherry blossom trees around them.

None of them wore the complicated look the same on Himari's face.

A sense of panic slowly surged from Kazuya's heart.

"Himari, are you okay?" He asked again in an attempt to make her reacted. Kazuya kept his voice low.

The lady blinked.

Himari blinked a few times, shook her head then staring back at Kazuya. This time, even though she still appeared confused, she wasn't in a daze.

"Kazuya, why do you look so interested in what happened to me on that night? Did I accidentally tell you something?"

Even though Himari herself freely telling him about that night earlier, as time passed by, she found that his questions were a bit strange.

From the beginning until now, his focus was on that night.

He had even asked her about the name card and note that should not bring any significance to him.

Why was that?

The more she thought about it, the more she felt weird.

He wasn't asking the questions randomly, right?

Kazuya carefully took in her expression. It was inevitable if Himari found his questions suspicious.

He shouldn't keep it from her any longer.

"Himari, I won't ask you questions anymore but, would you listen to me first?"

After several times contemplating with himself, Kazuya warily put forth such a request to her.

Himari lightly nodded, "Tell me."

To have Kazuya appeared so mindful right now, she couldn't help but be curious about the important matter he had wanted to say to her.

Kazuya took a long breath. He fixated his gaze on her inquiring eyes. Slowly, he opened his mouth to speak.

"Three years ago, after my brother fell into the coma, his company was in unrest. Although the company wasn't as big as any conglomerate, it still has its own significance. A group of people on the board was restless. They found me troublesome ever since I took over my brother's company so, one night, they planned to deal with me."

His voice grew lower and the pace of the words that came out of his mouth turned slower.

Even then, Himari could still hear him within the short distance between them.

"I was at a hotel to meet a potential investor. I let my guard down and, when I found that I was being drugged, I could only run and hide from them. Luckily, a young woman helped me even though at first, she was being forced by me. I stayed in her hotel room until morning came. Of course, I did not do anything untoward to her."

Himari, who was carefully listened to him, slowly had a change of expression.

It was something that Kazuya had anticipated.

She was in a daze with her eyes losing focus for a moment before little by little, those same eyes gradually widened with doubt and surprise layered in them.

Realization finally dawned on her as the loose threads connected.

"...Kazuya, you... That story, are you serious?" Himari stuttered with her eyes blinking a few times. She forced the next words out, "That man, was that you? Don't tell me... That man was really you?"

Due to shock, Himari abruptly stood up even before Kazuya confirming her questions. Her eyes were still wide as she stared at him with an open mouth.

"Himari, I don't mean..."

Her reaction made him anxious.

Would she hate him after knowing all this?

Kazuya wanted to say something, to even make excuses before his words were cut short by a string of sentences from the woman standing in front of him.

"Do you have always known that woman is me? Even before we met because of Chiharu? Ah, your name indeed sounds so familiar to me but I couldn't recall from where I have seen it. No wonder, it must due to the name card. Wait, wait, the most important thing, has the bad guys being caught? What happened to you after that night?"

Kazuya was dumbfounded. He foolishly stared at Himari for a while, thinking that this kind of reaction was something that he didn't expect from her.

"Kazuya, I ask you! Did those guys ever do something else to you?" Himari urged an answer out of him.

The moment she realized that man was Kazuya, Himari was instantly reminded of the men who appeared later. Those men looked so vicious. One of them even wanted to barge into her room when he smelled something suspicious from her.

If Kazuya was caught by them, no one knew what would they do to her as well. They must have thought that she had deliberately hidden Kazuya from being found by them.

While Himari was frightened by that thought, a burst of laughter coming from Kazuya perplexed her.

"What... what are you laughing at?" Her confusion doubled.

"Hahaha! Relax, Himari... Let's sit down first, sit."

Kazuya continued laughing as he stood up, gently clasped both of his palms around her wrists and pulled her to sit next to him.

The touch lightly startled Himari. The warm sensation made her flustered. With her cheeks reddened, she followed his movement.

Once she sat again on the bench, Kazuya let go of his hands.

Even then, the warmth of his hands still lingered on her skin.

"Sorry... I just grabbed you like that," Kazuya smiled faintly, "Sorry."

"It's nothing..." Himari shook her head.

She sat quietly. She suddenly didn't know how should she react after the outburst of her questions.

One by one, the memories of that night and what she occasionally thought after that resurfaced in her mind.

The figure and the face of that man were a blur yet, Himari could safely believe that he was indeed Kazuya.

And...

The name printed on the name card was Hayashi Kazuya.

No wonder...

No wonder she had always found that his name was familiar to her. But, Himari couldn't even link his name to the name card that she placed inside one of her books.

There were times when she would open the book and take out the name card but, other than staring at the name, she did nothing further than that. Although that man, Kazuya had written the note saying that she could seek him if she ever needed any help, she did not do anything.

What kind of a strange fate was this?

Kazuya carved a smile on his face as he recalled how she had acted.

It was a bit funny but, at the very least, he knew that Himari didn't disdain him after knowing the truth.

"Those men have been imprisoned. They drugged underage girls to frame me. The girls have been saved. Because there was plenty of evidence of their crimes, the court sentenced them to prison."

Kazuya started explaining about those old foxes.

The men that came chasing after him were the minions. The real deal was the ones standing above them. Yet, he just told her until that point.

There was no need for her to be concerned about that scummy men.

Himari was relieved once she heard that the bad guys had been imprisoned. If they continued roaming freely outside, more people would fall into danger.

"Then, about my question earlier, since when do you know that woman was me?"

Himari was back to repeating the earlier questions. There were still things that she wanted to confirm from him.

"Actually, after I met you twice, I feel like you're familiar to me but, I couldn't really pinpoint from where did you make such an impression. Well, that night from three years ago is something I couldn't help but think about often because, if not for the girl acting as my savior, I would meet my doom."

His words made her both flustered and blushed.

Himari darted her eyes away from him, directing her gaze to the cold cup in her hands. She mumbled, "What savior... It's not like my contribution was really that great."

Kazuya didn't realize his eyes and smile were incredibly soft as he continued looking at her.

"To be certain, after we met again, I asked my friend Shuichi to check on the guest list on that particular night. It really turned out that the woman was you."

Himari slowly lifted up her eyes, looking past his shoulders before she met her gaze.

"Why did you decide to come clean with me? What if, I got scared of you and what happened that night actually traumatized me? Aren't you afraid I would lodge a police report about your barging into my room?"

Kazuya was baffled for a second before once again his laughter filled the space between them.

"Don't laugh!" Himari frowned, "Even though the event happened three years ago, the report would still be valid."

"Hehe, do you want to let me go to jail so bad?" Kazuya's shoulders shook as he couldn't stop laughing.

Himari shot him a glare, "En, since I'm a magnanimous person, I would just forgive you. After all, you really didn't have any bad intention to me that night."

"My Lady, your heart is a wide as the ocean. Thank you for forgiving the sin that my humble self has committed," Kazuya playfully bowed at Himari with one palm pressed on his left chest.

Himari finally laughed.

Really, never did she expect this was what he wanted to tell her about.

How uncanny it was that they met again after three years?

Hehe, what do you think about Himari's behavior once she linked everything together?

Was it okay or was it not too impactful?
