Joseph is the third child of his parent Mr and mrs Uchegbu Austin, from Ifite-ose in nkwo local government.His parents are both small scale traders. His father deals on second hand shoes and clothes popularly call *OKIRIKA'' in the eastern part of Riageni.His mother sells food seasoners .People called them 'MAMA NA PAPA EJIMA', which stands for father and mother of twins.Their second issue was a twin,a boy and a girl. They both manage to train their children with their migre income.
Joseph started his early education at the age of three,during his nursery school days,he was known for his sharp mouth and his noisy nature . He was also known for his habit of bullying his class mates which got him the nick name "Tiger" by his class teacher. His mates feared him alot,because of his huge stature.He was the tallest among his peers.Despite the fact that he is not the oldest,but he was the most respected among his classmates. His academic performance is avarege.He ends up in between the 10th or the 11th position each term.
At Home,he always wants to fight his elder siblings especially when it comes to their group eating at night. His parents wants to imbibe the spirit of oneness and love among their children,thats why they insist that they eat together in a big tray,afterwards the eldest among them will share the meat among his siblings. During this event,the siblings normally have disagreement based on whose meat is bigger. The smaller siblings always feel cheated that the elder siblings always eats the biggest meat,leaving them with smaller parts. Sincerely speaking,sixty percent of African homes had this experiences among siblings.
Joseph in the other hand is a lovable kid because of his handsome face.Joseph is a wonderful sight to behold.His pointed noise that fits in his oval face, white beautiful pair of brown eyes. His hair is smooth and black,it has this blended moisture which made him look more or less of an Arabian kid.
At the age of seven,Joseph was already in primary four.Then his teacher made him the class prefects because of his physic,which she guessed will help him in controlling his classmates, which it did actually. During his tenure as a class prefect, He made sure that his classmates maintained the first position in sanitation in the whole school. He made sure that he reports anyone who defaults in his or her duties. This made some of his classmates to despise him,because they see him as a show off who just wants the girls in the class to gush over him. The truth is,whether Joseph was the class prefects or not, girls gush over him like crazy because of his elegant body. He always received love letters from unknown people who always express how much they love and cherish him.He never writes back,which made this girls so disappointed, but some never gives up hoping to be noticed by him one day.
In a certain period,his seniors in primary six also started making advances at him. Some bought him snacks and gifts in order to have him to their selves,but he kept on rejecting these gifts from them,which made them angry at him. Even the head girl was among the quest. Some times the head girl will purposely give him unnecessary punishment to kneel beside her for some time,just to perceive his good scent. Many girls were in love with him,and this made him confused on who to choose.
The whole saga brought hatred from not only the boys in his class,but also the older boys,who were jealous of the fact that the girls in their class were crushing on their junior. They connived against him multiple times,to beat him up.But Joseph always seems to know their plan,and will always go home with his teacher who didn't know his main intention on following her every day.
During the weekends, joseph and his younger sister Sophia goes to their mother's stall to help her in selling her goods.Despite his loud nature,Joseph was an honest person,who doesn't engage in petty theft like his mates do,such as stealing from his mothers stall,or playing "tusa tusa",a local gambling activity with the street urchins. His mother calls him "my goodluck charm,because she always makes a bigger sale each time he comes to the stall.People loves his smile which melts the heart each time he shows his well arranged set of teeth. He loves going to the market with his mum,because his mother will buy snacks at intervals for him and his sister,which his other siblings that goes to their fathers shop doesn't have the privilege to enjoy.
During his primary six,when he was just preparing for his common entrance examination, his mother died. She was killed by a drunk hit and run driver on her way to her stall on a Tuesday morning. When the news was broke to Joseph's father mr Austin Uchegbu,he fainted and was rushed to the hospital.The trauma was hard for him to bear,because he loved his wife so much.
After the burial of Mrs Uchegbu,The entire uchegbu family turn upside down. Mr Austin suddenly became a chronic drunk.He will drink himself to stupor,and will always be found sleeping inside a dirty gutter. His children were really ashamed of their father's new found habit.His elderest son,Ikechukwu tried his best to coordinate his siblings,and act like the man of the house.The responsibility was huge for his tender shoulders.He was only seventy when thier mother Died.
Mrs Afoma,the only surviving sister of mrs Uchegbu,came to their rescue,seeing the fact that her inlaw has abandoned his family and his business and resort to drinking.she was a primary school teacher in a small private school in osha were she lives with her husband and four children.Her salary was nothing to write home about.She and her family can barely feed and survive with her salary and her husbands pension which comes in ones in a blue moon.But she couldn't stand seeing her sisters children perish because of lack of care.So she made arrangements,to give them out as maids and house boys to any good couple that needs help.
She managed to give out the eldest child Ikechukwu to a catholic priest who promised to train him in any level of education as long as he is respectful and hardworking.She also managed to give out the twins james and jane to a white man who was looking for a house maid and a house keeper.The white man leaves in the capital city jabua.He is a big contractor known for his reputation on delivering good government projects assigned to him.
When she wanted to give out Joseph to a couple that works in an oil company as a house boy, his father mr Austin bluntly refused and insisted that they should take his younger daughter Sophia. They tried to convince him,but all to no avail. The couple later took Sophia to the city with them. This made Joseph very angry at his father for been an enemy of progress.
Joseph and their last born blessing were the only ones remaining with their father. blessing was just four years old,when their mother died.Which made her too young for house girl.
With the little help of his mother's sister,Joseph registered for the common entrance examination together with the first school leaving certificate exam.He came out with flying colours in both exams. He was given the award for the neatest pupil during his graduation from primary school.He was nine years old when he finished primary school.
The next challenge was how he is going to continue with his studies.His father wanted him to go and learn how to repair motorcycle tube and tire.But his aunt came to his rescue,and registered him at the community school in his town where he studied from jss one to ss 3. During his secondary school days,he focused entirely on his books.Despite the advances he got from girls in his school,he didn't lose focus.He knew where he came from and didn't want anything that will jeopardise his studies.He was made the disciplinarian because of how he carried himself in school,And how neat and smart he always looks. He was a role model to many junior students who gave him the nickname 'ERUDITE'.
His Aunt made sure she supports his education the little way she can.She pays all his fees and buys the necessary books for him.She was really a good woman,despite the financial challenges she faces at home,she didn't abandoned her sister's kids.
After his waec and neco examination,Joseph started during menial jobs like carrying goods for people at the market,fetching water for people and doing farm work for anyone willing to pay.His services were mainly patronized by women who mainly wants to make him their sex toy. He has experienced alot of sexual harassment from this women who sometimes tries to accuse him if they didn't get what they want.
Joseph was growing into a full fledge man,with a very muscular body,which shows whenever he puts on a tight shirt.His face keeps shining Despite the fact that he doesn't apply any cream or lotion to it.Any time he goes to the market to carry goods,people especially ladies always calls for his services.
When the waec results came out,he did very well.He had five A's and four B's. His Aunt was really happy with his performance,she congratulated him and wished him the best of lucks. She became sad because she knew she can't take care of him in the university.she cant afford such expenses.She approached Joseph and explained everything to him.He was sad,but he understands his aunt's predicaments. He begged his aunt to do him a favour,and look for any man who was looking for an apprentice. His aunt was really pleased on how matured his thoughts were,so she prayed for him and went home.
Six weeks later,Joseph was peeling cassava with his younger sister blessing, when a huge black car drove into their compund and parked under the mango tree in the compound. when the door opened,his aunt came down with a man who looked rich and majestic.They exchange plesantries With their Aunt and the strange man,and went into the house with the man,as blessing ran to their fathers regular drinking spot to alert him of the august visitor.
