Chương 52: The Body and Mind Disconnect

Haruto was up before dawn, as he always was. The early morning light barely peeked over the horizon, casting long shadows across the empty training grounds. He had become accustomed to starting his day before anyone else, using the quiet hours to push his body to its absolute limits before the academy's classes began. The village was still, but Haruto was already in motion.

His fūinjutsu-enhanced seal was set to 1.6 times gravity today, an incremental increase that made even simple movements a challenge. Every step he took, every punch he threw, every stretch he performed was met with resistance that pulled at his muscles, testing his endurance. His body strained under the invisible weight, sweat forming on his brow within minutes of starting his routine.

Haruto had conditioned himself to withstand this kind of intense training. His Tier 2 Stamina allowed him to recover quickly as long as he consumed enough calories, but it also meant that he had to push himself harder to truly feel the burn. Today, he was focusing on strengthening his legs and core, which were vital for stability in combat. He dropped into a deep squat, feeling the extra resistance pull at his muscles, forcing him to engage every part of his body just to maintain balance.

As he finished his warm-up, Haruto moved into more complex exercises: rapid punches and kicks, a series of combat drills designed to improve his speed and accuracy. The weighted seal made everything harder, but that was the point. His strikes were deliberate, each one aimed with precision, though slower than they would be without the seal.

But as he continued, Haruto couldn't ignore the growing realization that had been nagging at him for days: his mind was ahead of his body.

Thanks to his Tier 2 Cognitive Ability, Haruto could now process information at an astonishing speed. In a fight, he could anticipate his opponent's moves, analyze their stances, and predict their strikes long before they even happened. His mind raced with possibilities, constantly calculating the most efficient movements, the best counters, the quickest ways to end a battle.

But his body wasn't reacting fast enough.

The disconnect was subtle at first, but now it was becoming a real issue. His muscles and nervous system simply couldn't keep up with the speed of his thoughts. He could see openings in his imaginary opponent's defense, but his body lagged just a fraction of a second behind, making him slower than he felt he should be.

Frustration built up inside him as he went through another set of kicks. He knew what to do—his brain screamed the instructions—but his limbs just couldn't respond fast enough. He stopped mid-kick, lowering his leg slowly and taking a deep breath. This isn't going to work.

He had to find a way to bridge the gap between his enhanced mind and his body's current limits. The gravity seal was helping to push his physical abilities, but it wasn't enough. He needed to train his nervous system to respond faster, to catch up with the speed of his thoughts.

Glancing at the sky, he saw that dawn was fully breaking now, casting soft light across the training ground. He had a little time before he needed to be at the academy, so he decided to shift his focus for the rest of the session.

He had read about neuro-muscular coordination—the way the brain sends signals to the muscles to control movement. With his enhanced cognitive abilities, he could start to train his nervous system to be more efficient. Haruto dropped into a fighting stance, this time not focusing on strength or endurance, but purely on speed.

He began to move slowly at first, practicing basic punches and kicks, but focusing entirely on reaction time. He imagined an opponent, calculating their movements in his mind, and then forced his body to respond as quickly as possible. Each punch, each kick was aimed to be faster than the last. His body felt sluggish under the weight of the seal, but he could sense the small improvements with each repetition.

His muscles burned, and his heart pounded, but Haruto was relentless. He wouldn't stop until his body could match the speed of his thoughts.

By the time he finished, the sun was well above the horizon, signaling that it was almost time for him to head to the academy. His body ached from the intensity of the workout, but the frustration from earlier had eased. He had made progress, even if it was small. The gap between his mind and body was still there, but Haruto was determined to close it.

He wiped the sweat from his brow and turned off the seal, immediately feeling the relief of the weight lifting from his body. He knew he had to pace himself, but he couldn't help pushing just a little further every day.

Grabbing his bag, Haruto made his way toward the academy, already thinking of new ways to adjust his training. His mind was sharper than ever, and with a little more effort, his body would soon catch up.
