Chương 2: the customer

MARY JADE

"are you sure you're okay for the closing shift alone? you know i can help you." jonah said, he's my big brother. we both own this coffee place. "i'm gonna be fine. if i need some rescue, you'll be the one i'll call."

i smile at him as i put my apron on, "i just want to make sure you're okay. i've been hearing that stalker cases are on the rise." i tie my hair in a bun as i sigh.

"a lady like you should be careful and watch out." he looks at me worriedly, i get it, he's the oldest brother but i can handle myself.

"i'm fine, jo. i'm not gonna die." he hugs me as he put his chin on top of my head, "has the others contacted you?" i hug him back, "i couldn't call amy for some reason. i don't know if she's busy or not, but it's been a year since we talked."

there's this killer slowly killing my group of friends, we used to be seven people and now we're down to four. we don't know who it is, it could be anyone we all know well at this point. it's also why jonah couldn't leave me behind easily.

ring! ring!

i receive a call, as i grab my phone from my pocket. it's jaime. amy's twin sister. i quickly answer the call.

"jai? how are you-"

"she's dead, jade! she's fucking dead!" i freeze, i couldn't move. i just stand there as i see jonah's mouth moving, probably asking me but they're all mumbles, i can't hear him.

she's dead.

amy montgomery is dead.

my phone slips from my hand as it falls, i break down as i cry. jonah quickly kneels and tries to calm me down.

it can't be... d-does it mean i'm next? i don't know. so many thoughts running through my head as jonah grabs me and hugs me, "i'm here, mj. shh, it's gonna be okay."

"do you wanna go home?" he asked as the bell rings from the door, there's a customer.

we both get up from the floor as i wipe my tears away. i quickly look at the customer, he has these ocean blue eyes, and did i mention he's cute too?

"i-i um, what do you wanna order tonight, sir?" he looks at me and smiles, god, the face of an angel.

"um, i would like a latte and an apple pie please." he said as i look at jonah, who was cleaning. "sure, that'll be $57, sir," i said as he giggled,

"just call me daniel and here you go." he pays as i go make his order.

i suddenly feel tense, and feel like someone's watching me. i mean, people do that when you're making their order but this time i feel like something's off. i don't know if it's just me or i just didn't mind people watching me make their coffees.

"have you heard about famous acrtress amy montgomery? she died." i slowly finish the order as i get the apple pie and place it on the counter. "how did you know that?" i look at him.

"i heard from outside, i just thought you already know about it."

"o-oh, well, i just had a phone call from her twin sister." i said as he nods. i give him his latte and apple pie.

"cheer up, i hope she gets the justice she deserves." he said as he leaves cafe.

jonah walks towards me and hugs me.
