Chương 44: Close Call

Wei Cheng walked forward a few steps as he tried to scan the surroundings. Suddenly, he raised his head to look at the trees.

The trees have lots of leaves. It was the perfect place to hide someone because people without high Eon Energy would have limited vision. Only after reaching a certain stage would they be able to sense other people's presence and not only because of vision or hearing.

"What is it, Cheng Ge?" Wei Mi jogged to her brother side.

"There might be…."

Before Wei Cheng could finish his word, he could hear loud scream coming from the girl behind him. He quickly turned around and saw Wei Mi jumped to him. His hands were stretched out as he caught the young girl in his arm.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Worm! Worm! Worm!" Wei Mi screamed loudly in fear.

"What?"

Wei Cheng was trying to figure out what this girl was screaming about when he saw a worm not far from them. His brows furrowed in disgust as he didn't like insects. Still, it was not a good move to show it in front of Wei Mi as he had a 'great' older brother image that he had to maintain.

If he was caught acting shamefully because of an insect, he wouldn't be able to keep his face.

"It's just one worm, Mi'er. There's nothing to worry about." Wei Cheng completely forgot about the person he wanted to find. His attention was fully focused on the little girl in his arms. Given Wei Mi's age, he didn't really feel surprised that she hated worms.

"But it's disgusting! Yuck!"

"Don't worry, it won't reach you," Wei Cheng soothed his sister.

Wei Mi clung onto Wei Cheng's arm as if it was her lifeline. Out of everything that she had seen in her entire life, the one thing she hated the most was insects. Seeing one of them over here made her panic and rely on her brother completely.

"Tell it to go away, Ge."

"I will."

Wei Cheng used his legs to kick the nearby worm as he reminded himself to threw the shoes away after this. His eyes instinctively followed after the trajectory of his kick. The place where the worm landed was right at the top of several other worms.

His face turned slightly green in disgust. He turned his head away, but the next sight nearly caused him to release his grip on Wei Mi's arm. He could see several centipedes and a cricket were crawling and jumping around not far from him.

The cricket seemed to notice his gaze as it switched direction suddenly and landed not far from Wei Cheng's feet.

Stomp!

By this time, Wei Cheng's face had turned completely green. He must be extremely unlucky to come right when there were a lot of insects around this place. If only he knew about this, he wouldn't come here. The thought of having them near his skin gave him goosebumps.

'I need to take a bath.'

"Ge?" Wei Mi's soft voice was heard once more.

"Let's go back," Wei Cheng was not in the mood to make trouble anymore. He was too disgust with what he saw just now to think about other things. Rather than staying here, he would be better off to finish his studies.

"Ah, we're going back, Cheng Ge?" Wei Mi was surprised.

Wei Cheng nodded his head. "We'll return at other time when there's no bugs around. Don't worry. I won't forget to make her life miserable. Mother's task, I'll surely complete it."

"Ge, can you help me walk?"

"There aren't any insect over here, come here."

"But…"

"Come over here, Wei Mi."

"Ok…"

On the tree, Ye Jiao was sweating a lot. She feared that Wei Cheng would find out that she was here because his strength was far stronger than her. Prior to this, she had never learned any skill to erase her presence, making it easy for others to spot her if she was not hidden enough.

'I have to be careful. People who have formed their core have greater senses.'

Ye Jiao stayed still in her place as she analyzed what she heard from the two of them. Apparently, there must be some kind of grudge between her mother or father with Su Lian, Wei Cheng and Wei Mi's mother. As she had never seen the other party, she was not totally sure what kind of grudge they were, but it was surely not something light.

After making sure that they had left, Ye Jiao moved to another tree using the branch as the bridge. Her small body quickly moved from her hiding place back to her residence.

"The bugs plan is a big success," Ye Jiao giggled to herself. She could guess that Wei Mi would be terrified, but didn't expect that it would have an effect on Wei Cheng too. After all, that boy was far older than her, and he didn't look like one that would fear bugs.

Well not fear, it was disgust.

Ye Jiao stopped at a the tree just several meters away from her residence. Her eyes were looking at her mother, who was busy taking water from the well.

"Dad, I'll surely become stronger. Far stronger than what I am, so when you return, you'll be proud of me," Ye Jiao vowed solemnly. There was still a long path ahead of her, and she would use her time to the fullest to train herself and reached the peak.

The peak…

Ye Jiao's lips curled up. She wondered what it would be to reach the highest rank in Eon Energy. Surely, it would be a very exciting goal.

As she thought that, Ye Jiao went down the tree and ran to her mother. "Mom, I have returned."

"Ah, Jiao'er, help me prepare the plates."

"Yes, Mom!"
