Chương 50: Genshin Impact: Strength Through Bonds [50]

The Kamisato Estate.

The sunlight outside grew brighter, becoming increasingly harsh.

"Takahashi! Wake up, something's wrong!"

Ren frowned slightly, half-awake.

Who's yelling in my ear?

This was supposed to be the first day of his laid-back life.

Let me sleep to my heart's content—forget the Vision Hunt Decree, forget the Raiden Shogun. None of that has anything to do with me.

But then—

"Something's happened!"

His blanket was yanked off in an instant, leaving him shivering.

Ren's eyes snapped open.

The first thing he saw was the lively face of Yoimiya, her expression full of panic.

Her hair was disheveled, as if she had rushed over in a hurry.

The two locked eyes, an awkward silence stretching between them.

Suddenly, Yoimiya's face flushed under the morning sun, her bright eyes darting downward.

"Good morning."

Ren crossed his arms over his chest, attempting to cover himself.

It seems I forgot to put on clothes.

"E-EEEEEEEEEK!"

Yoimiya's embarrassed scream echoed throughout the Kamisato Estate.

---

Ren, now dressed, had a dark expression on his face.

What kind of morning is this?!

But more importantly—

"Why were you in my room?"

"Sorry," Yoimiya pouted, lowering her head in a show of repentance.

She looked so guilty that Ren didn't have the energy to scold her further.

And don't think I didn't catch you sneaking glances earlier.

Good thing he didn't have a habit of sleeping in the nude.

"What's the rush?"

Hearing this, Yoimiya quickly looked up and rushed to his side.

For a moment, her eyes seemed to glisten with unshed tears.

"Takahashi… you—you…!"

She clutched his arm tightly, struggling to form a coherent sentence.

"Calm down. What happened?"

Ren felt a sinking sensation in his chest.

Could it be… the Raiden Shogun has enacted the Vision Hunt Decree again?

"Takahashi… you died such a tragic death…!" Yoimiya wailed.

Ren: …

This early in the morning, and my fist already hurts.

"I'm alive and well!"

He couldn't help but knock her lightly on the head.

Sure enough, Yoimiya quieted down immediately.

"There's good news and bad news. Which do you want first?"

"The bad news."

Yoimiya hesitated before speaking sorrowfully: "Mei-nee's gone."

Ren shot to his feet, disbelief written all over his face.

"Gone? What do you mean?"

"Mei-nee disappeared last night," Yoimiya explained.

Ren's expression darkened further as she recounted the events.

Mei had vanished from the Kamisato Estate overnight. Despite Ayaka sending people to search for her, they found nothing.

"Why didn't you wake me up last night?"

"Ayaka thought you were already being hunted and…" Yoimiya mumbled, "She wanted you to get some rest."

"…"

Ren didn't respond, sinking back into his chair.

Though his worry for Mei was evident, he bore no resentment toward Ayaka.

Another person searching wouldn't have made much difference. If anything, wandering around recklessly would've caused more trouble.

Yoimiya watched him nervously, relieved when she saw no signs of anger.

"Takahashi, are you okay?"

Ren didn't answer, staring blankly at the floor.

His feelings were a mix of frustration and an odd sense of loss.

While he wasn't too worried about Mei's safety, his thoughts lingered on her—on that aloof figure with the fox mask and the dessert she had silently placed before him.

She chose to leave after all.

Strangely, he felt a pang of reluctance.

Why am I feeling this way? She's just someone I met recently.

Once all this blows over, we'll never cross paths again. So why am I so annoyed?

"I'm fine."

Ren shook his head and pulled himself together.

Life is a series of meetings and partings. There's nothing to be upset about.

He repeated the thought to himself, trying to find some comfort.

"What's the good news?" he asked.

Yoimiya hesitated, fidgeting nervously.

"Well, um, Takahashi…"

"Yeah?"

"The good news is… the Raiden Shogun wants to see you."

Ren chuckled.

"Yoimiya-san, did you not get enough sleep?"

"Let me finish!"

Yoimiya waved her small fists, looking uncharacteristically serious.

Ren paused, realizing she wasn't joking.

"Actually… the good news comes with a bit of bad news…" Yoimiya admitted, struggling to find the right words.

"Go ahead. What's the worst she could do? Stick me in a statue?"

Ren laughed, his tone light and carefree.

"Well… something like that," Yoimiya muttered under her breath.

"…What?"

Ren's smile froze, the humor draining from his face.

"She wants to meet you," Yoimiya said cautiously, "and strike you down with the Musou no Hitotachi."

Her words hit like a thunderclap.

Ren's expression hardened, and he stared at her, incredulous.

"With Musou no Hitotachi? She wants to… strike me?"

Yoimiya nodded grimly, her face full of sorrow.

"The Tenryou Commission has already issued the notice. The entire city of Inazuma is talking about it."

"…"

I just took one nap, and the whole world turned upside down.

---

"Takahashi, wait for me!"

Yoimiya hurried after him, trying to keep up.

Ren walked quickly, his thoughts racing.

Something's not right.

There was definitely something strange going on.

He needed to see Kamisato Ayaka and figure out what was happening.

At the end of a long corridor, several figures appeared.

It was Kamisato Ayato, Kamisato Ayaka, and…

A cold, familiar silhouette.

"Ah!"

Yoimiya skidded to a stop, narrowly avoiding crashing into Ren.

Ren froze in place.

"Mei-nee! Weren't you—"

Hearing her name, Mei turned to look at him, her expression as icy as ever.

When she saw the excitement on Ren's face, she averted her gaze.

"I was bored last night, so I went to Tenshukaku," she said in a detached tone, as if it were no big deal.

What?

Everyone present was stunned.

Did she just casually admit to visiting the Raiden Shogun's residence like it was a stroll in the park?

Is she serious?
