Chương 23: Chapter 23: Finishing up and Miyamura Bakery

"I don't know about 'young master,' but let's talk." I'm keeping things business. I don't really care all that much about the specifics of the business anymore. Since, I couldn't buy it I don't really need to care.

"You're gonna ask about the payments and all that, right?"

I nodded my head. It seems she's more competent than I thought. So, why the hell couldn't she just pay like normal?

Clueless to my thoughts, she continued, "Before last year, payments were always on time, but I entered this contract with a distributor, and it's been bad—hell, awful even!"

"Why not try to void or change the contract?"

"Because I'd have to pay way too much money! Converting it into dollars, it's a little over $100,000!"

"Why the hell would you sign that?!" I jumped from the sofa, my mouth wide open.

I take it back! She's more stupid than I thought!

"Well, at the time, a lot of friends said that this company was reputable and it would be worth it."

"Hah~" I couldn't help but sigh before continuing. "So, when does the contract expire?"

"A week from now."

Hmm, not bad. I can at least salvage this.

I looked Satsuki in the eyes and gave it to her straight.

"I'd say you close for a week, which I know seems bad, but trust me, it might do you more good."

"I wish I could, but there's a quota in the contract that must be met."

"Then get it done earlier. Who the hell says you have to wait?"

"I-I guess. There isn't an amount-per-order requirement, so I could do a light order!"

"Good! Now, do you have any new distributors in mind? Oh, wait—is this current distributor local or international?"

"International, with headquarters in Germany."

"Switch to a local one. There might be some complications, but I figure it won't be as bad as whatever horrible contract you signed."

"But what if the new distributor is worse? Or what if closing for a week drives away my regulars?" Her questions were valid enough.

Sitting back down, I let my thoughts wander while she did whatever. I mean can it really get worse? At least a local one is easily replaceable.

"Look. A local distributor might be worse but as long as you just make it where you can easily swap them it won't be that bad. I doubt you'll even have that problem anyway. This country is...well enough of that lets just say its better then in some places."

She nodded her head while keeping a smile on her face. This smile of her's hadn't faltered at all.

She's one hell of an optimistic person. This one trait of her's probably made her more likeable with the employees which should be good for my payments. That reminds me...

I stood up getting ready to leave, "How much did you pay per month?"

"2,500$! But before it was only 2,000$."

"How about this, you pay 1,500$ every month as well as giving me an additional 7% of the profits every month."

"Are you sure? What if we do bad?"

I-is this girl really arguing with me about this? I just lowered her base rent, shouldn't she just accept it and move on?!

I stared at her with a wry smile, "Uh? Then sucks for you? I just need you to make the base payment every month, the 7% is a bonus for me."

"Shouldn't you want your bonus to be higher?"

I took in a large breath, I really couldn't understand this woman. "HMMMM HAH~, Listen seriously just take it, why are you even asking me to raise it?"

"Because I fell a little bad plus your still a kid!"

"A kid who owns the land your business is on."

"G-True! Still-"

"Seriously, quit it. If you feel bad, then just use whatever extra money you have to pay your employees more or something. Its your business, I just want the money for my land."

I still have a lot to do! I can't waste taste arguing with her over something she shouldn't be wasting my time with.

I left the room with my mind filled with the new checklist I had to complete. Visiting that bakery was also on the list, an unexpected blessing! Sure, I didn't own it outright, but if this situation has proven anything, it's that owning land is pretty nice.

Ring Ring~

The warm buzz of conversation and the faint clinking of dishes followed me as I came down from the second floor. My phone started ringing, which conveniently silenced any potential attempts by the workers to make me stay longer. It's not that I hated the idea or necessarily didn't want to, but Satsuki wore me out!

Looking at the caller ID, I was a little confused. It's not that lady's number from earlier, so perhaps someone I actually know?

"Hello?" I answered.

"Good morning—oh, sorry, good afternoon. Is this Fujimiya-san?" A mature, feminine voice graced my ears. It was nothing like my mom's childish, playful tone! Speaking of Mom, hopefully, she isn't making things too hard for Sawako.

"Yes, this is he."

"Great! This is Miyamura Iori. I own the bakery that's part of the land you now own."

"I see! Nice to meet you. Can I ask how you got my number? I was actually about to come visit, but this makes things easier."

"The previous landlady sent it to me. I think you'll get another call from the maid café next to me."

"Probably not, I'm actually leaving there right now. I'm just a few steps away from your bakery, actually."

"Sorry, from your words a second ago, I thought you were farther away."

"No problem at all. So, would you like to discuss things over the phone?"

"Yes, I'm not at the bakery today; My son is there. I trust him, but I don't really want to put the pressure on him."

"Okay, then. How much was your previous payment?" I asked, cutting straight to the point.

"$1,700."

"Dang, cheaper than I thought. Satsuki—sorry, the maid latte's rent—was a little different."

"I know. Satsuki-san comes over here a lot asking for help. Not money or anything, just a listener!"

"I can't say I doubt that. About the rent, I'll lower it to $1,500, and instead of the difference, put 5% of your monthly profits into a credit for me at your bakery."

"That works for me, but I don't quite understand the credit part... Are you planning major events?"

"You never know when a special occasion might come up! Plus, it'll be good for when my mom or girlfriend need something fresh. Mainly my girlfriend—I can't let my mom get too obsessed with this place, or she'll do whatever she can to stay with me!"

"Hehe~ There isn't anything wrong with that!" Iori's laughter put a smile on my face. Talking with reasonable and calm people is way better than dealing with overly energetic ones!

"Also, Fujimiya-san, can I get your given name? Its for the account."

"Oh yeah, it's Amane!"

"Okay, I'll have an account made for you, Fujimiya-san."

"Thank you! Is it alright if I call you Iori-san? Feel free to call me Amane, like you said it'll make things easier."

"Sure!"

"Have a good day, Mrs. Iori."

"You too!"

"Hah~ Easy! On to the next task—grocery shopping." Relief washed over me. Now I had to get stuff for dinner tonight. Mom's and my lovely Sawako's orders!

[Side Quest technically completed]

Oh yeah, I forgot about this.
