Chương 4: Chapter 4: The Rivalry Begins

Ash stepped outside Professor Oak's lab, the weight of Pikachu's Poké Ball in his hand grounding him. The fresh air did little to clear his mind as his thoughts churned with determination. Gary's taunts lingered in his memory, fueling a fire within him.

Pikachu, perched atop Ash's shoulder, let out a small "Pika pika!" accompanied by a tiny spark of electricity. Its demeanor brimmed with attitude, its bright eyes scanning the path ahead.

Ash glanced at his new companion and chuckled. "Well, Pikachu, it's just you and me now. Ready to show them what we've got?"

Pikachu flicked an ear dismissively, letting out a soft "Chu..." but made no move to jump off. It was a small victory, and Ash would take it.

As they walked toward the edge of Pallet Town, the quiet streets began to buzz with activity. Several townsfolk had gathered to see the trainers off, including Mrs. Ketchum, who stood near the main road with a beaming smile.

"You finally got your Pokémon, Ash!" she said, pulling him into a quick hug. "And it's Pikachu! Adorable!"

Ash rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, glancing at Pikachu. "Yeah, we'll see how adorable it stays when we start battling."

Mrs. Ketchum laughed and handed him a small bag. "Lunch for the road. And don't forget—write to me when you get to Viridian City!"

"I will," Ash promised. "Thanks, Mom."

With a wave to the gathered crowd, Ash set out onto Route 1, Pikachu still perched on his shoulder.

First Steps

The tall grass swayed gently as Ash made his way along the winding path. The air was filled with the distant chirping of wild Pokémon, and the occasional rustle of leaves made him glance around warily.

"Alright, Pikachu," Ash said, stopping in a clearing. "Let's see what we're working with."

Pikachu hopped off his shoulder, landing gracefully on the ground with a soft "Pika!" It stared up at Ash, its expression unreadable.

Ash activated the system interface, scanning Pikachu's stats.

Pikachu

Level: 5

Nature: Brave

Ability: Static

Moves: Thunder Shock, Growl, Quick Attack

"Not bad," Ash mused. "You've got potential, Pikachu. But we'll need to train if we want to stand a chance against Gary."

Pikachu's ears twitched at the mention of Gary, and it let out a small "Pika-chu!" accompanied by a faint spark of electricity.

"Don't like him either, huh?" Ash grinned. "Good. That makes two of us."

Their conversation was interrupted by a rustle in the grass. A small Rattata darted out, its beady eyes locking onto Ash and Pikachu.

"A wild Pokémon!" Ash exclaimed, excitement building. "Alright, Pikachu, here's our chance to battle!"

Pikachu glanced at the Rattata, unimpressed, but readied itself nonetheless.

"Use Thunder Shock!" Ash commanded, pointing at the opponent.

Pikachu hesitated for a split second before releasing a small jolt of electricity with a sharp "Pika-CHUUU!" The Thunder Shock hit its mark, but the Rattata shook it off and lunged forward, its sharp teeth bared.

"Quick, dodge with Quick Attack!" Ash shouted.

Pikachu's movements were swift, and it darted out of harm's way before landing a clean hit on the Rattata. The wild Pokémon staggered, then fled into the tall grass, leaving Ash and Pikachu victorious.

"You did it!" Ash cheered, crouching down to meet Pikachu's gaze. "That was amazing!"

Pikachu sniffed, its pride evident despite its aloof attitude.

"Alright, let's keep moving," Ash said, standing up. "We've got a long way to go."

A Rival Appears

As the sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a warm glow over Route 1, Ash and Pikachu reached a small creek. The sound of running water was soothing after a long day of walking and battling wild Pokémon.

Ash knelt by the creek, splashing cool water on his face. Pikachu padded over to take a drink, its tail twitching contentedly.

"We're making a good team already," Ash said, watching his companion. "I think we're getting the hang of this."

Pikachu glanced at him, its expression softening ever so slightly.

The peaceful moment was short-lived. A sudden rustle in the bushes made Ash freeze. Pikachu's ears perked up, and it leapt into a defensive stance with a sharp "Pika!"

"Who's there?" Ash called out, his hand hovering over Pikachu's Poké Ball.

A familiar figure emerged from the shadows. It was Gary, his trademark smirk plastered across his face.

"Didn't think you'd make it this far, Ashy-boy," Gary said, tossing a Poké Ball in his hand.

Ash straightened, his determination rekindled. "Gary. What are you doing here?"

"Same as you—training," Gary replied. "But since we're both here, how about a battle? Unless you're scared, of course."

Ash clenched his fists. "Fine. Let's do this."

Gary grinned and released his Pokémon. A fiery Charmander appeared with a confident "Charrr!" Its tail flame burned brightly in the dim light.

"Charmander, meet Pikachu," Gary said mockingly. "This should be quick."

Ash smirked. "Don't count us out just yet. Pikachu, let's show him what we've got!"

The two Pokémon faced off, the tension palpable. The sun dipped below the horizon, and the first sparks of battle illuminated the night.

This was the start of something extraordinary.
