[Death Count: 6]
Nova peacefully lay on the cold ground, staring into the abyssal sky with lost expression. The oppressive darkness which was present all around him seemed to press down on him.
But despite everything being against him, he felt a strange sense of calmness.
"One more time," he said softly, his breath forming a faint dark mist in the cold air of the abyss.
He closed his eyes, focusing on his heartbeat. Calm. Determined. He let go of his frustration and fear, allowing a clear resolve to take hold.
"I won't let this place break me," he declared, pushing himself to his feet.
As the Abyssal Monsters appeared once again and began approaching him, he took a deep breath and fixed his stance.
The black mist responded to his will, enveloping his entire body like armor. It flowed over his skin, forming intricate patterns and solidifying into protective layers.
The Abyssal monsters hesitated, their predatory confidence wavering as they sensed the change in him.
"Hissss... fresh meat," the tailed monster snarled, but there was an undercurrent of uncertainty in its voice.
Nova met their gazes with absolute calmness. "This will be the last run of you."
The Abyssal monsters didn't seem to listen to him as the tailed monster attacked first, its appendage slicing through the air with deadly precision.
Nova moved swiftly, sidestepping the attack without any trouble. In one fluid motion, he formed a blade from the mist and sliced through the tail. The creature howled in pain, recoiling as dark blood oozed from the severed limb.
The bladed monster lunged at him, but this time, Nova was ready. He parried the attack effortlessly, their weapons clashing in a burst of dark energy.
With a swift strike, he disarmed the creature, the blade spinning out of its reach.
"WHAT?!" the monster exclaimed, its eyes widening with disbelief.
Nova didn't relent. He followed up with a powerful kick, the force sending the bladed monster crashing into the clawed one. Both tumbled backward, struggling to regain their footing.
"Now!" Nova shouted.
He concentrated, channeling the mist around him. It responded eagerly, expanding outward in a powerful wave that engulfed the two fallen monsters.
They writhed and screeched on the ground as the darkness seemed to consume their bodies.
"IMPOSSIBLE! THIS CAN'T BE!" the clawed monster roared before dissolving into shadows.
The tailed monster's body was riddled with wounds but he still charged recklessly due to his relentless rage. Its eyes burned with hatred as it looked at Noah.
Nova calmly stood his ground, his eyes narrowing. He used his will to use all the energy that he could muster, feeling the mist pulsate around him.
As the Abyssal monster closed in, he thrust his hand forward, releasing a concentrated blast of dark energy. The beam pierced through the tailed monster's chest, the force stopping it mid-charge.
It stumbled, its eyes dimming as it looked down at the gaping hole in its torso. "No... this isn't... over..." it gasped before collapsing into a pool of shadows.
Silence fell over the desolate landscape.
Nova stood amidst the dissipating darkness, his chest heaving with exertion. The mist around him began to fade, retreating back into his body.
"I... I did it," he whispered softly, a mix of relief and disbelief washing over him.
He took a moment to calm down his breathing, the adrenaline slowly subsiding. The weight of his repeated failures and deaths made it hard for him to believe the reality of his victory.
A translucent notification appeared before him:
[You have defeated the Abyssal Minions.]
[Skill Unlocked: Abyssal Manipulation - Novice Level]
[Death Count: 6]
He exhaled a long breath, an exhausted smile forming on his lips. He sat down on the wet soil as his legs gave in due to the intense battle, he let out a soft chuckle.
"Seven tries. Fucking hell, I had to die seven times to kill three damn minions," he muttered, shaking his head.
As he caught his breath, a new notification appeared before him:
[New Quest Unlocked: Survive the Abyssal Trials]
[Objective: Defeat progressively stronger Abyssal Monsters to hone your skills.]
He sighed tiredly, pushing himself back to his feet. "Of course, how can it fucking end here," he murmured. "Fine. If this is what it takes, then so be it."
With sharp eyes, Nova began to explore his surroundings. The barren landscape stretched infinitely engulfed in darkness, but in the distance, he noticed a faint glow—a flicker of light in the endless dark.
His curiosity piqued and he decided to head toward it.
As he traversed the shadowy terrain, he sensed the abyssal aura growing thicker, the atmosphere started to become more ominous.
The ground beneath him changed from cold, wet soil to a hardened, cracked surface that seemed to pulse with an ominous energy.
A low growl echoed from the darkness ahead. A new Abyssal Monster emerged from the shadows—twice the size of the previous ones, with armor-like scales and eyes that burned like embers.
Its claws were longer, and sharper, and it wielded a massive blade forged from the very darkness around them.
"Fuck, a blade forged out of Abyssal Energy and that size…," Nova's eyes twitched, clenching his fists.
"But it matters not, I will win, doesn't matter if it's in five deaths or fifty." The black mist responded to his will, swirling around him more energetically.
The creature opened its massive jaws and roared, the sound reverberating through the Abyss.
Without waiting further, it charged at him with incredible speed. Nova barely had time to react as he dodged to the side, feeling the rush of wind as the monster's blade sliced through the air where he'd just stood.
He countered by forming a spear from the mist, hurling it toward the creature. The spear struck its armored hide but shattered on impact, barely leaving a scratch on the massive body of the Abyssal Monster.
"Fucking great," he muttered. "They've got tougher skin now as well. The previous monsters were already a handful."
