Chapter 24: Reuniting With Old Friends (2)
"Instructor, are we fighting against him? Isn't this too much—bullying five against one?"
"Yeah, we can wait for others to gather."
"Don't pressure the Instructor. It was my decision to fight against you, and I also believe me against you five is really too much bullying," Kalon said, with a smirk in his eyes, clearly teasing the person who had called him "weak" just a few moments ago.
The Test Instructor also felt the tension building between the team of five and Kalon.
Kalon just had a calm smile on his face; he did not really care about these folks.
"I understand that arrogance can be cultivated while always seeing weak people. But you are playing with fire," the muscular man with fiery red hair and ember-like eyes, wielding a halberd crackling with flame energy, said to Kalon.
Quite calm, as with this type of physique, he would be muscle-headed.
Slimemaw saw the banter between Kalon and the others. He decided to just start the match.
"Mr. Kalon and Team Story Breaker, do you wish to take a rest before the test?" Slimemaw asked.
But Kalon did not want to rest; he wanted to directly go to the 21st Floor and meet with his friends. However, he did not know what the others' suggestion would be.
"We do not need to rest to defeat a single opponent," the muscular man with fiery red hair and ember-like eyes standing opposite Kalon said.
Kalon also shook his head when Slimemaw turned towards him. He too had no problem.
"Then the fight will begin in five minutes," Slimemaw said. He had given time so that the Story Breaker could come up with a strategy to fight against Kalon, as Slimemaw always acted with caution. Seeing that Kalon was so confident and able to come here alone, he might really have enough strength to contend against Story Breaker. But winning was a completely different thing.
5 minutes later.
Kalon and Team Story Breaker stood opposite each other with a distance of almost ten meters.
Ding—
The sound signaling the start of the game echoed. But no one moved. Even though Kalon was alone, the team did not dare to underestimate him.
Kalon saw the wariness in their eyes. He decided to act first. He moved step by step, shortening the distance. Seeing this, the members of Team Story Breaker were surprised. They had thought he would maintain distance and attack them, but instead, Kalon himself was closing in.
Kalon knew that for the world he was a Light-Bearer. He decided to show them the true peak of what a Light-Bearer is capable of.
"Lyric." The lean, hooded figure with glowing purple eyes and twin daggers that shimmered with Shinsu poison had a name—Lyric. The red-haired man called out to Lyric, and he nodded. In the next second, there were three Lyrics standing on the opposite team.
"I had doubts when I saw your shady costume. But now I am sure, you are an assassin, right?" Kalon said, but his face did not show much surprise.
Lyric and his clones vanished, and on Kalon's side, a lighthouse barrier formed that restricted his movement but did not cover his vital parts. Clearly, the opposing team had a Light-Bearer among them.
Kalon felt his movement restricted for only a short moment. Suddenly, Lyric appeared in front, slashing and targeting his vital parts with his clones. Kalon was able to dodge the daggers of the clones and Lyric with ease, as he was able to predict the flow of the next attack. But the funny thing was that his body was still covered in a block of Lighthouse cubes, moving like a Lego man.
Eshara, the tall, pale-skinned woman with flowing silver hair and intricate tattoos glowing faintly on her arms, was shocked that her skill had lost its effect so quickly. She also felt that the Light Cubes were slowly losing her control—someone with more powerful Shinsu manipulation was taking over them.
"Guys, this is bad! We have to finish him quickly. That guy is slowly taking over my Light Cubes... Agh." Eshara was sweating, trying to regain control, but whenever she thought she had a chance, Kalon would strike back with greater force, slowly draining her strength.
"Kael and Ravel, go assist Lyric and finish this quickly," Mirae, the lithe girl with short black hair and a glowing Shinsu needle strapped to her back, said.
Are you the commander? Kalon thought, observing how Mirae gave instructions to the other members.
Kalon saw that others were approaching him fast, but he did not panic. He mobilized his Light Cubes and sent them toward Kael and Ravel to keep them busy and act as obstacles to slow them down.
"Hey, you bastard, where are you looking?" Lyric was irritated that Kalon had the time to send Light Cubes to slow down Kael and Ravel while he and his clones attacked and threw daggers at him.
"Oh, sorry. Were you offended? Then I will take care of you first." Kalon turned his attention away from Kael and Ravel, as Lyric was right. It was not decent behavior to ignore an opponent while they were attacking.
He suddenly stopped dodging, and the daggers thrown towards him were about to penetrate his heart, eyes, and liver. Lyric was surprised as Kalon suddenly stopped—he had thought Kalon would dodge the attack. His motive was never to take a life. Just as the dagger was two centimeters away from his eye, Kalon's figure vanished.
Lyric saw a huge palm appearing in front of his face, blocking the light and covering his face with its shadow. What happened next, Lyric did not know.
Thud!
Lyric's world darkened. Kalon had used Celestial Reverb to the extreme, causing Lyric's Shinsu to freeze, which resulted in his breathing stopping. Since Kalon's motive was never to kill, Lyric only suffered a minor concussion, making him fall asleep.
Ravel, Kael, Eshara, and Mirae all froze. They did not know what had caused Lyric to suddenly fall. All they saw was Kalon counterattacking and then Lyric collapsing.
Slimemaw was also a little surprised, as even he did not know what had suddenly caused Lyric to fall—Kalon's hand had not even touched Lyric.
Clap.
"Next, it's your turn." Kalon clapped his hands to get the attention of his opponents. He dusted off his hands, clapping and rubbing them against each other.
A shiver ran down the spines of the remaining members of Story Breaker. Although Lyric was not the strongest, he was not weak either. Being able to take down Lyric so easily while still confined by the Light Cubes set by Eshara spoke volumes of Kalon's strength.
