Chương 16: Consequences

Before the car stopped, Emmett opened the door and jumped with a Remington M870 shotgun in his hands.
—Damn, did a war break out? —Brock, rising from the passenger seat with an M4 in hand, looked at the scene in disbelief. Several corpses and bullet casings were scattered on the ground. He lowered the gun, scratched his head, still in shock.
—Guys, you're already here —Ethan commented with a smile, watching the expressions of surprise on the faces of his classmates as he put out a cigarette.
—We received your call and we came as soon as possible. Chief Hood is also on his way —Emmett replied, curiously approaching the burning body in front of them. He covered his nose and backed away quickly —. I didn't expect you to take care of everyone that fast.
Emmett looked at Ethan with admiration. With an M4A1 hanging from his back and a pietro beretta revolver in his hand, the tension on his face was evident.
—Those idiots came here looking for trouble and ran into my gun. Look how they left that damn my truck. —Ethan said as he walked to his Ford F150. The body was full of bullet holes, the smashed windshield, and the rearview mirror dropped. Basically, the vehicle was ready for the junkyard.
—Ethan, I will compensate you for the loss —Siobhan said timidly, observing the state of the car.
—Okay, Ethan. You can apply for a subsidy to the office. It shouldn't be a problem, considering the noise these guys made today. Since you resolved this matter, it should be easy to ask for funds —Brock suggested with a hand gesture before adding —: Siobhan, you'd better change your clothes. At least put on shoes.
While speaking, Hood also arrived on the scene. Generally speaking, a group shooting would bring a long investigation, but in this case, these motorcyclists had caused quite a few problems in the town. The first victim was the wife of the local prosecutor. They then attempted to provoke an attack at the Banshee Town venue, causing several injuries. And at night, armed to the teeth, they tried to attack law enforcement. Prosecutor Gordon would surely settle this matter quickly. After all, his wife was one of the victims of these damned.
With this situation, no one would dare cause trouble for Ethan and Siobhan. They would simply have to write a report as part of the procedure.
Once the scene was cleared, everyone started to leave. The attack that night had been intense, but the rapid resolution of the situation allowed them to feel great relief.
Because the F150 had become unusable, Ethan took his personal belongings out of the car and called a crane to take it away. Then he stopped Hood to ask him to take him back home.
—Boss, you can go first. I will take it. — said Siobhan, approaching with a fine coat in his hands.
Hood winked at Ethan with a smile before starting the vehicle and leaving.
— Would you like to have a drink with me? I don't think I can sleep right now —Siobhan suggested. He had been through a lot that day and needed to let off steam. After hesitating for a moment, Ethan nodded.
Back in the living room, on the television it still played The Amazing Race, with Phil Keoghan, smiling at the control station, waiting for the teams to register.
Siobhan took the remote control, but Ethan stopped her.
—Leave it. I also like to see it.
— Do you want something to drink? I have whiskey, brandy, beer and red wine —offered Siobhan, leaving the remote control aside.
—Whiskey, please. With a little ice, thanks —Ethan replied, settling on the couch while watching the show.
Siobhan returned from the kitchen with a bottle of whiskey, two glasses on his left hand, and a small ice bucket on his right. He sat next to Ethan.
Ethan took the unopened bottle, removed the wax bar, and poured more than half into his glass. Then he raised the bottle to Siobhan's glass and looked at it.
—Tell me when to stop —Siobhan said.
When the glass was almost full, Siobhan instructed him to stop. She took a sip, but the strong alcohol drowned her, causing her to cough repeatedly. After leaving the glass, he leaned over and looked for something under the table. He took out two bags and threw one at Ethan.
Ethan caught her and saw that it was a bag of potato chips. Surprised, he left the potatoes on the table again. I didn't used to eat while drinking, let alone fries.
While Ethan rested on the couch drinking whiskey, Siobhan chewed on the potatoes.
—I was lucky you were here tonight. I didn't expect those people to really come to get revenge on me —Siobhan said, with the TV light reflecting off his face.
—Don't worry. They would have done the same if it was Emmett. As I told you, we are friends, and friends take care of each other.
Siobhan lowered his head slightly before looking at Ethan with red eyes.
— You know? Today is my birthday. I didn't expect to have it like that.
—Wow, that is a surprise. Happy birthday —Ethan straightened up on the couch —. Too bad those idiots screwed it up, but at least I lit you a big candle, right?
Siobhan laughed, grabbed a handful of fries, and threw them at Ethan.
While they were chatting, they finished the bottle of whiskey.
—You shouldn't drink more. Just sleep peacefully. You will feel better tomorrow —Ethan said, seeing that Siobhan was clearly drunk. Her glass trembled in her hands, so he carefully removed it, left it on the table, and raised it to take her to the bedroom.
The bedroom was surprisingly cozy, with a huge Minnie doll by the bedside.
Ethan gently placed her on the bed and covered her with a quilt with printed yellow flowers.
Siobhan muttered something before falling into deep sleep. It had been an exhausting day for her: on her birthday, she had to kill someone and then face revenge. No normal person could bear such mental pressure. Now, with alcohol in his system, he could at least rest, alcohol was a routine escape for law enforcement officers or anyone who faced life and death every day.
Ethan looked at the shoes he was still wearing, but decided not to take them off. He turned off the light and left the room. Back in the living room, he put away his weapons and called an Uber to go home.
At the intersection, Ethan asked the driver to stop. It was still about 200 meters to get home. It was perfect for a little walk and clearing your mind.
When he was a short distance from his house, he saw a figure sitting on the steps of his porch through a hole between the trees.
Ethan, alert, pulled out his pistol revolver, opened the magazine to see the bullets left inside, inserted a fast magazine, and approached cautiously.
Looking closer, Ethan put his concerns aside and reinserted the gun to his waist. Rebecca was sitting on the wooden steps in a small black dress. He held his chin with one hand and pursed his lips. The other hand still held a dry branch, writing and drawing on the ground with boredom.
Hearing the footsteps, Rebecca raised her head and saw Ethan appear, standing with a smile on his eyes.
— Where have you been? I have been waiting for a long time.
Before Ethan could say anything, Rebecca put on her high heels and went down both steps. At that moment, the moonlight fell on her golden hair, like an elf in the forest. After Rebecca smiled at Ethan, she crossed her hands, grabbed the hem of her skirt, and lifted it up. Suddenly, the whole body was left naked.
Ethan felt the smell of alcohol he had tried to suppress quickly rise to his head, igniting a desire that consumed him. Without waiting any longer, he approached Rebecca, trapping her in a passionate hug. She responded with the same intensity, her lips finding herself in a hungry kiss as Ethan's hands rushed through her body.
Rebecca gasped gently when Ethan slipped his hands down her back, drawing her closer. Without breaking contact, he guided her to the lake, whose waters reflected the pale moonlight. With each step, the tension between the two grew, their breaths grew faster, and their hearts beat hard.
When they reached the shore, Ethan paused for a moment, looking at her with desire. Rebecca looked at him back, her inviting gaze Ethan took off her clothes and without saying a word, they slipped into the cold water, their bodies finding themselves below the surface in a hug that seemed to burn despite the temperature of the lake.
The lake water gently rippled around them as Ethan and Rebecca gave each other, each movement, each sigh amplifying the connection between the two. The cold night contrasted with the heat of their bodies, and the outside world seemed to fade, leaving only the lake, the moon, and their passion.
Rebecca arched her back, her hands tangled in Ethan's hair as he explored every corner of her skin, her lips following the trail of water droplets sliding down her body. Rebecca's moans mixed with the sound of water, creating a nightly melody that echoed in the silence of the forest.
Finally, after a moment that seemed endless, the intensity peaked, leaving both exhausted but satisfied, their bodies intertwined in the water. Gasping, they stayed like this for a moment, allowing the calm of the lake to envelop them.
Ethan led Rebecca back to shore, where they both headed to the cabin to grab a blanket and sat on the porch sofa, looking at the starry sky. The sound of the nocturnal birds flapped its wings and flew over the treetops, as Rebecca huddled in Ethan's chest, smiling with satisfaction.
—You have to do me a favor and get my knife back —Rebecca muttered, still catching her breath.
—Hood has it, right? No problem —Ethan nodded without thinking, gently stroking his wet hair —. I heard that in today's celebration you stabbed a gang member with a knife. I must say you did a great job and it was in self defense. I don't understand why your father and your people took you to the police station.
Rebecca sighed, pulling away slightly to look him in the eye.
—My people do not believe in violence. The Lord said to be patient, to ignore evil people, and not to resort to violence. My behavior today is intolerable in the eyes of our people. I will have to publicly repent later, otherwise I will be ostracized.
Ethan smiled slightly, stroking the lobe of his ear.
—Now I feel like I'm a double-sided person. On the surface, I am a conservative and well-behaved Amish girl, but I secretly live the life of an outsider. You're right, I just like violence.
Before Ethan could respond, Rebecca playfully bit him on the arm, her eyes shining with a mixture of challenge and desire. Ethan screamed in surprise, turning around and gently pushing her down, starting a game that they both knew would end.
Ethan rocked the reclining chair back and forth, gave the cigarette a comfortable drag, and then put the tip of the filter in Rebecca's mouth. Rebecca was lying on Ethan's body, covered in sweat, not wanting to raise her hands, biting the cigarette with her teeth, observing the smoke coming out of her eyes.
The next day...
Ethan jumped out of bed, hummed a tune, and fried some eggs. He picked up a plate full of fried eggs and sat on the sofa, putting the eggs in his mouth while watching the news. The presenter, with an attractive figure, continued transmitting the news. Minor geological activities were detected in various locations in California. The presenter reminded the people who came out to pay attention to safety.
The special guest joked:
—Come on, all of California is in an earthquake zone. Things like these happen every year. Some slight vibrations are normal. They are just small cracks that appear from time to time on the surface. Find a plastic surgeon. I will do it for you.
The entire live broadcast room laughed, and the atmosphere was filled with joy. The beautiful presenter smiled and said to the camera:
—If you want to share some fun facts about the earthquake, call Lisa and Randy at 555.
Ethan turned off the television, grabbed the plate, went to the kitchen to wash it, put on his uniform, and drove the Crown Victoria to the police station. Inside the police station, several people had already arrived early.
As the motorcycle gang incident was quickly resolved and the villagers received an explanation, the police station returned to its calm appearance. Ethan and Siobhan did not go out on patrol, they both sat at their desks and wrote a lot.
After Ethan finished completing the weapons use report, he frowned and looked at Siobhan.
—Don't look at me, I have many documents to complete —Siobhan said without raising his head.
—You are so amazing. How did you know I wanted to ask you for help?
—Alma is on vacation and your chair is still squeaking, what did you think I wouldn't notice?
—I think you're smart enough to be an FBI —Ethan went looking for a cup of coffee.
—I am not interested in that. Bring me a cup too —Siobhan raised his arm in an instant, and Ethan had to give him the coffee in his hand and then go have another cup.
The peaceful day ended quickly. Rebecca was elusive throughout the day, and Ethan took the dagger from Hood, put it in a cardboard box, took it to the Davis bar, and asked him to hand it over to Sugar.
After working for several days in a row, Ethan arrived in Hood with a permit application form. Since traveling back in time, Ethan has honestly stayed in Banshee Town and has been nowhere since he became familiar with the environment.
Quiet and restless, he decided to take a few days off on paid leave to go out and have fun. Looking at Ethan's license application form, Hood passed his pen.
This child has not been on duty for a long time and has already taken five lives. He can make more noise than himself, so it would be a good idea to let him out and have fun, and help him lessen the stress of work.
—Thank you, Sheriff —Ethan happily waved the license form and left the office.
He waved the license application form towards Emmett and the others, attracting some paper balls to attack him. Under everyone's curses, Ethan laughed and left the police station.
In the parking lot, Ethan found his "new" car, a restored 1970 Dodge Challenger from an unknown number of hands.
Because it would be inconvenient not to have his own car, after receiving the subsidy he applied for, he immediately found a car dealer cooperating with the police station. When he looked for it in the garage, he fell in love with this car at a glance: the black beast.
After checking that the condition of the car was perfect in all respects, he clenched his teeth, paid all the subsidies, and then applied for some loans before successfully acquiring the car.
As a time traveler, it was a failure to ask for a loan to buy a car, but when he started the car and felt the increasing power of the V8, he felt it was all worth it.
Since he was not on administrative leave and could travel far, Ethan planned to go to San Francisco for a walk. If I hadn't had little time, I'd definitely drive the Challenger and try a road trip to the United States.
When he returned home in his car, he kept all the weapons at the police station and did not bother to bring them with him. Anyway, there were some weapons in space to deal with any emergency.
After storing some changes of clothes in his backpack, Ethan got into his car to go to the nearest airport in Pittsburg. After a six-hour flight, the plane slowly landed at San Francisco International Airport
San Francisco is a city that emerged thanks to the gold rush and is also a world famous tourist city. The Silicon Valley Technology Center is located south of the San Francisco Bay Area.
But all this has nothing to do with Ethan. He put on his baseball cap and left the airport. The bay bridge shone golden in the sunlight.
