Chương 128: Inherited Memory

Unlike Luo Ning, who felt at ease and happy, Irene fell into a deep slumber within Mina's formation after being taken away. The flood of inherited memories surged back, transforming her dreams into a vivid tapestry of the past.

In her dream, she witnessed an ancient scene. The elves, sovereign of their own territory, thrived in the vast southern forests known as the Forest of Elves, suffused with the divine light of the Goddess of Life.

At that time, five tribes of elves existed. The Life Tribe, renowned for their life magic and sacrifices, stood out, while Irene's ancestors hailed from a union of the Moonlight Tribe and the Life Tribe.

As generations of her ancestors unfolded before her, their voices echoed faintly in her mind, speaking truths she could barely grasp. Time sped by, and she observed the elves' rise to glory, their influence spreading across the Shia continent.

Elves symbolized nobility, holiness, beauty, and benevolence. They cherished art, music, and all things beautiful, attracting admiration from nobles of other races. The elves fostered peace and friendship in the southern Shia continent, leading to a flourishing civilization.

Yet, as their power peaked, war erupted. The orcs, humans, and sea tribes clashed during the New God Period, a cataclysmic struggle that saw the elves retreat to their forests, their once-vibrant presence diminished.

The seas receded, and the violent orcs withdrew into the mountains, while weaker races like cat-people, dwarves, and goblins fell under human dominion. The God of Light grew ever more powerful, seemingly poised to challenge the Lord of the Gods.

In her inherited memory, time accelerated relentlessly. Her ancestors, caught in the turmoil of war, reached out to her, but the world shifted before she could comprehend their words.

Suddenly, the sky transformed into a riot of colors, reminiscent of a dazzling aurora. A majestic being descended from the heavens, shaking the very foundations of the Xia continent. The earth trembled as rivers flooded, and abysses reshaped the land.

The Goddess of Life fell into the Forest of Elves, her form shrouded in dark mist, as if battling ancient gods and malevolent forces. Even the goddess, protector of the elves, struggled against the encroaching darkness.

Anxiety welled within Irene. She longed to help but was trapped in this realm of memories, unable to move. The goddess's aura waned, and she turned her gaze to Irene, offering a faint smile.

"Child, if I falter, live well and protect yourself until we return."

Irene's tears flowed freely as she witnessed the rise and fall of the elves, their journey from glory to downfall in the war of gods. She reached out, yearning to grasp the goddess's hand, feeling the distance closing between them.

Just as her fingers brushed against the divine, an overwhelming force pulled the goddess into the abyss, severing their connection. Despair engulfed Irene as she clung to a piece of the goddess's garment, the last remnant of divinity in a world devoid of new gods.

As darkness swallowed her, she felt a gentle presence draw near. A familiar, caring face emerged, framed by warm sunlight, causing her to squint against its brightness.

Once her eyes adjusted, Irene, usually carefree, broke down in tears, embracing Mina, who had been vigilantly watching over her.

"It's okay, dear. It's all over now," Mina murmured, gently patting Irene's back. This inherited memory was a rite of passage for every talented elf, a glimpse into their lineage and the god that awaited them.

As Irene sobbed, Mina reassured her, "You will see Him again."

"I felt His warmth. Can we truly meet Him once more?" Irene asked, her voice trembling.

"I promise you, we will," Mina replied with unwavering certainty.

Irene's gaze drifted to the quiet street outside. "I don't like this world anymore. I want to return to the legacy, where everything feels peaceful, and the air is so fresh. Why do the gods have to fight?"

"I don't know," Mina admitted, "but there will be a time when peace returns. Look at Dawn—it's flourishing. We already have seven Destinies. In the past, each Destiny held the potential to shape an era." She gently touched Irene's face. "After the gods vanished, a great fortune-teller foresaw this."

Mina turned her eyes skyward, whispering, "When Xia's magic is revived, it heralds a new reincarnation. The great struggles will eventually pave the way for Dawn's rise."

Irene managed to steady her emotions. "Is that true?"

"Absolutely," Mina affirmed, rising to lead Irene to another room. "Let's see your awakened talent. You might very well become the eighth Destiny."

Irene sniffled, "Okay."

Standing in the formation, Mina smiled softly as she infused it with life force.

Buzz—

Emerald green light pulsed through the formation, illuminating Irene's features. This was how a life priest assessed their specialties; though not as clear-cut as a panel, it offered insights.

As the life energy intensified, Irene's eyes shimmered emerald, her silver hair flowing as though receiving a divine gift.

Then, a powerful buzzing reverberated through the room. The formation shook violently as the emerald energy morphed, revealing an ominous, dark green hue.

Mina's expression paled. "What is happening? This talent feels... unusual."

Reconstruction of the Army, Military Camp

"Is everyone here?"

Bai Yi surveyed the five silver alchemists and over thirty others before him, focusing on a formidable dwarf with mechanical enhancements.

"Yes, Lord City Lord," the dwarf replied, his voice tinged with admiration and seriousness. "Among the alchemists currently recruited, thirty-eight transformation masters are present."

Bai Yi activated a scanning function, causing a ripple of unease among the alchemists, but respect for his status kept them silent.

His gaze landed on a lower-ranked bronze alchemist, who had awakened two specialties and held the highest potential among the group.

"Good," Bai Yi said, addressing the assembly. "Today, we focus on flesh and blood transformation. Though you haven't divided your skills finely yet, all of you will participate."

He turned to the strongest dwarf. "Rad, you'll act as the captain of the Armament Department's transformation team. You'll mentor Barto here; he shows great promise."

Barto, a human youth, stepped forward, excited yet nervous under the envious stares of his peers.

"Not everyone awakens multiple specialties," Bai Yi continued. "Many don't awaken any at all. Transformation is advanced work, typically studied by gold-level alchemists."

He explained the importance of specialization as they progressed through their ranks. "During the silver period, transformers will refine their talents through practice. If you excel in alchemy, specialize in flesh and blood transformation; if science and technology are your strengths, focus on mechanical modification."

Nodding in understanding, Rad gestured for Barto to approach. "Come here quickly."

Barto complied, his face alight with surprise.

Bai Yi smiled, recognizing Barto's awakened expertise: Precise Transformation: You have heightened control over transformation, increasing your success rate by 20%.

"Let's begin," he declared. "I'll demonstrate twice. Pay close attention."

Bai Yi led the group to the transformation room, a facility designed for frequent modifications. As they entered, anticipation buzzed in the air.

The room, expansive enough for a hundred participants, was a hub of activity. Bai Yi's mental energy swept through the space, ensuring everything was in order.

As the alchemists settled into their spots, a knock interrupted. Garrett and Magath entered, sheepishly scratching their heads, a hint of nostalgia in their eyes.

"These two will undergo the first transformations," Bai Yi explained. "One is a Berserker, the other a Swordsman. The Berserker requires L-type transformation to harness their talents, while the Swordsman's suitability depends on their race."

He gestured to the projection that displayed the transformation process, his voice steady. "If you have questions, An Luo here is the strongest in flesh and blood transformation. He can guide you."

An Luo nodded, ready to assist.

"One hour to prepare. We start the transformation then," Bai Yi instructed, watching as the orc brothers eagerly absorbed the projected information.

This was their path to strength, and they wouldn't have to pay a single coin for it.
