Chương 14: One Of Many Sick Jokes Yet To Come
Adam was now handcuffed with mana chains, unable to utilize a single ounce of mana that he had.
Not that he would even if he could anyway, the duke's army was nothing to scoff at and Adam was nothing more than a level 5 newbie in this world.
He was taken to the tower surrounded by guards.
The Duke sat in his office with a photo presented by the Head Butler from the site of interest.
'This many skeletal knights in my territory?'
The entire notion made no sense to the host, how could such a thing be taking place in his territory without him even knowing about it?
His attention then went towards the figure at the centre of the fiasco.
A man with near-translucent white hair and bright purple eyes that seemed to be glowing even in the photo.
The Duke knew exactly who the figure was, what didn't make sense to the Duke was how this fat loser of a kid managed to get rid of all that fat and gained his late mother's purple eyes in just 5 days.
More importantly, why was he in Brahken and what was he trying to do at the cemetery?
All of these questions would be answered as soon as the Duke was informed that they had apprehended the culprit and were bringing him to the Duke to be judged.
He soon heard a knock on the door, the door opened and what came through was his daughter, Mia Ivrea Arlae.
His daughter had come to his office half asleep, her teddy bear still held in her arms even though she had already become a woman at 16 years of age.
She had been woken up by all the commotion going on outside of her room and the intense shock she felt from the tower shaking while she was sound asleep.
"Daddy, what happened why is everyone running around the house in a panic?"
Gavin looked at his innocent daughter, she was no longer a little kid who should be calling him titles such as 'Daddy' and should have already become much more mature to reflect her age.
He blamed himself for coddling her so much that his daughter ended up like a prideful Young noble lady with no clue of world affairs or social norms.
"Mia, more than 100k skeletal knights were spotted at our cemetery tonight at 4 am."
He gave his daughter the photo at his desk.
Mia, stunned by what she saw in the photo had completely forgotten about her sleepiness and said in a shout of panic.
"Dad, we need to prepare the troops, if we don't deal with this now, a lot of people will die!"
It was cute to see his little airhead of a daughter panic without knowing anything about how to deal with such a situation.
"The situation has already been diffused, Mia."
"What? How could such a severe situation have already been taken care of? I didn't know our soldiers were this capable!"
"Our soldiers didn't do anything to kill the horde of skeletal knights, they were only guarding the main entrance of the cemetery to ensure none of them passed through into the city."
"Then how did the situation get diffused?"
"All of the skeletal knights died in a dark Implosion that turned the entire cemetery into a crater. The culprit who caused the explosion has already been apprehended and is coming to meet me soon."
"Dad, can I join the meeting too? I want to see who the person who caused such unrest in our city is."
"Oh, I was going to make you observe the meeting anyway since the culprit is someone you have known since your childhood, you even met him 5 days ago at the gathering of nobles."
Mia was confused, the only people that she had interacted with were noble kids from other households and her father had said the culprit was someone she had known all her life.
Mia was already in a sleep-deprived state and thinking about the identity of the individual would just stress her out even more than she already was. She chose to wait for the culprit to appear to determine his identity.
As the cavalry made their way to the tower with Adam bound in chains in tow, they didn't even try to heal Adam's injuries or burns.
Adam didn't care much for it. He was too busy dealing with the barrage of system notifications coming his way.

Ignoring all of the jabs that were taken at Adam, the system had blessed him with such a trait, even though the name was horrible.
Finally, pain resistance became a skill usable in actual combat. The synergy between these two was amazing. He already knew which skill he was going to buy with the causality energy he had just gained but he held off on it.
He was being taken to a stage where he would need to perform an entertaining play. He now had to prepare the script for it.
Spending causality energy was a part of that script, so what if half of his body was burnt from the front? It was pain he could bear.
Soon, Adam had reached his destination.
The Duke's Tower.
The inconsiderate guards still didn't try to heal his burns. They took him into the lift that went straight up to the Duke's office.
Adam had an entire plan of approach in his mind on how to deal with the Duke and how to get rid of his suspicions about Adam.
The Duke was a very popular character in the game and someone you would interact with multiple times between story arcs since he was the greatest archmage in the empire.
Another reason why you would interact with him is because his daughter was one of the main heroines of the game. Her name was Mia Ivrea Arlae.
She was a character that Adam despised with a passion. She represented your typical spoiled noblewoman with a pure heart and righteous intentions.
What Adam hated the most about her was how impractical she would get with her self righteousness causing many issues for the protagonist and always being one of the main reasons for conflict through her interference in the plot.
Nothing good ever came from dealing with this girl.
So what if she was a talent with the potential of becoming an archmage herself? Adam didn't give a single f*ck.
To him, she was nothing more than a prideful brat who refused to listen to anyone except her delusional inner monologues.
She always held a tight rope around the protagonist's neck making sure he did everything she wanted him to do to accomplish her goals of self-righteousness and delusions.
There were many people in the fandom that loved her strong personality and her unruly nature, to Adam it was nothing more than a nuisance.
So what if she is a beauty of the highest tier? In Adam's previous current life, there had never been any lack of beautiful women.
If Adam could choose, he would much rather spend time with a woman with a good personality even if it was coupled with somewhat degraded beauty standards.
The lift finally stopped, and the doors opened. Adam made his way to the Duke's office.
He saw the Duke standing behind the desk with his back towards Adam, staring down at the city through the glass pane wall behind his desk.
The glass used for building in this world was incredibly tough compared to normal glass used for glassware, it would be quite difficult to break through.
"Lieutenant, you have done your job well. Now leave us."
With that, the Lieutenant gave a slight bow and left the room.
It was only Adam and Duke Gavin left in the room.
Or so he thought, he felt another gaze upon him coming from his left, and what he saw infuriated him inside to no end.
Adam could see a pair of light blue eyes staring at him from a dark corner of the room, it was none other than Mia Ivrea Arlae.
She stepped out of the darkness after Adam took notice of her presence, Adam could now see her.
She had light blue hair, light blue eyes, and spotless skin as if she was someone's fictional creation rather than a real person.
It is rare for human beings to not have a single imperfection on their skin, even people with extreme skin care routines end up with blemishes they can't get rid of, along with her ruby lips, it could be said that she was the ideal that every woman chased towards when applying all that makeup on their faces.
The aesthetic that Adam felt from her was that of a mermaid out of the ocean, Mia seemed to be in her nightwear, and beside her, he could see a teddy bear resting against the wall.
'Same as the game huh?'
Adam only looked at her for a second and then turned his attention to the Duke, there was no need to look at her for a prolonged amount of time, [CALCULATOR] made his thinking ability beyond the limits of human cognition.
Adam, with his hands still bound, bent on one knee, his head bowed said,
"I greet the hero of the Empire that rules over the domain of magic."
The Duke then turns towards Adam and says, "Adam it hasn't been too long since we saw each other right? I remember we exchanged greetings at the gathering a few days ago."
Listening in on the conversation, Mia's eyes widened she couldn't believe that the person right in front of her was Adam Alastair Dacre, the same Adam she had known all her life since her childhood.
After an incident 5 years ago, she had cut off all connections with Adam and they only exchanged formal greetings in noble gatherings since then, she refused to believe the man in front of her was the same Adam she had known for her entire life.
"Dad, how can this man be Adam? His face is burnt off, and the only thing visible are his uncanny purple eyes, this man isn't even fat and ugly like Adam. Also, why would Adam come to Brahken? Isn't he a coward who always stays inside his room and never leaves? Isn't he just a loser who can only take out his frustrations on people who still choose to put up with his bullsh*t?"
Mia then went on and on about how horrible Adam is and how it's impossible for them in front of her to be Adam
'Someone really hates me huh?'
Adam was very surprised to see Mia's disdain for him, it was something that was never explored in the original game.
Adam and Mia never interacted with each other directly until Adam's boss fight where he takes control of Mia and the other party members.
Maybe something had happened in the past that caused Mia, the heroine who is kind to everyone, even the villainess Cassandra, that made her verbally express her disdain for Adam.
"Mia, the man in front of you right now is Adam himself. That reminds me, Adam, are you okay with those extreme burns on your skin? Should I bring you a healing potion?"
As Adam was about to speak according to his script, a system window popped up.

Adam's entire script was thrown out of the window.

Adam's body out of his control, stood up, and the system chose the trait Adam wanted to buy later automatically.

As Adam stood up, golden strands of light started flowing into his body out of thin air. Adam was completely oblivious to the phenomenon taking place.
Watching what was happening in front of him, Gavin wore an expression of disbelief.
'Divinity is flowing inside the boy's body?'
Divinity was the energy of the gods used to alter their world or bless their people. The bigger the alteration the more divine energy would take.
No one has been able to control divine energy as they please and the people of the churches have to make many sacrifices and bind themselves to the rules of their religion just to wield a small amount of divinity.
The Divinity flowing into Adam's body was so thick and pure that it reminded him of the large-scale rituals the churches did to bless 1000s of acres of farmland at once.
Suddenly after the Divinity stopped flowing into Adam's body, slowly, Adam's burnt skin started to erode, being replaced with new skin as if Adam wasn't burnt alive in the explosion that took place.
The flow of Divinity itself was proof enough to clear Adam of all suspicions of being a dark mage that the Duke had.
However, the Duke chose to interrogate Adam anyway since he was curious about the drastic change that occurred in Adam within a span of a few days.
"You look much better now, what happened, Adam? Weren't you incredibly fat just a few days ago, what's with that face of yours? Also, I saw that you awakened your mother's eyes, I can feel its effects just by staring at you for a split second."
"Oh my god, it's Adam! What happened to you, Adam? How did you change so drastically after the party? What are you doing in Brahken? Why did you blow up our cemetery?"
Mia couldn't help herself after realising the man in front of her was indeed Adam, she threw a barrage of questions and accusations at him.
Sadly for Adam, it seemed like a long conversation was about to take place between him and the father-daughter duo.
This night that was about to end soon seemed to only be getting longer and longer for Adam.
