Chương 97: The Slayer of Gods

"If I were you, I would refrain from touching that wand." A voice, imbued with authority yet calm, resonated from behind, prompting Sivir to whirl around.

Before her, at the entrance she had just traversed, a towering figure approached slowly.

Standing over two meters tall, the robust and muscular frame of the newcomer was draped in golden armor, a garb befitting only the high priests of the ancient magical empire from the orc tribes of the Shurima Desert.

Most striking of all was the immense canine head that crowned this figure.

From a distance, the visitor resembled a colossal black dog standing upright.

Upon recognizing the figure, Sivir's face broke into a smile. "I knew it! Since the Wand of Time belonging to the Goddess of Youth is here, the rumors must hold true—she surely lies in slumber at this very place. And if the Goddess of Youth is here, how could her two loyal hounds be absent? Nasus, it's been far too long!"

Surprised by the woman's direct revelation of his identity, the towering dog-headed man squinted his eyes in disbelief. "That presence… you are… Sivir?"

Yet in the next moment, he shook his head, dismissing his initial conclusion. "No, that can't be right; Sivir's strength is not so feeble."

"Indeed, you are correct! I am none other than the mightiest War Goddess of Valoran, Sivir!" She twirled gracefully, a hint of pride in her demeanor, "As for my strength, well, it's only natural—after all, I am merely a reincarnated being now."

"A reincarnated being? Does that mean… you have perished?" The revelation astonished Nasus.

"Why are you so surprised? Even a goddess is not invincible; it is no great matter to be slain when one is outmatched. Besides," she continued, her expression lighting up as if recalling a joyful memory, "I am not the only one who has met misfortune—Leona, Janna, and the others have all been slain just like me. We are all goddesses, after all; we should share both fortune and misfortune alike. It makes things far more entertaining!"

"Are you implying that… all the goddesses on the Valoran continent have been killed?" The chilling news left Nasus in shock, momentarily doubting his own ears after thousands of years of slumber within the pyramid.

Yet, in stark contrast to his astonishment, Sivir, the reincarnated goddess, laughed heartily. "Indeed! All of us so-called goddesses and deities have been slain by a man named Yi Shuihan. Ah, it seems he is the inheritor of some chaotic swordsmanship from human society… but that's not the main point. The real shock is that I was the first to fall! I never got to witness the beautiful expression on Leona's icy face as she met her end—such a pity!"

Observing the goddess before him, who bore no semblance of a divine being, Nasus sighed in resignation. "So, you have died once, and thus your powers have yet to be restored?"

"Yes, that's correct! Though I am unsure why that man didn't finish us off entirely and allowed us to reincarnate with our divine essences, it doesn't matter; we goddesses have all experienced the sensation of death," Sivir nodded with a smile. "To be honest, death isn't as dreadful as one might imagine. Nasus, would you like to experience it? After all, weren't you called the God of Death in the desert? Without truly confronting death, how can you claim to be a genuine harbinger of death?"

Ignoring Sivir's playful taunts, Nasus, having confirmed her identity, grew impatient with the idle chatter. "Let's set aside talk of death for now. What brings you here? Are you intending to disturb the slumber of the Goddess?"

"The Goddess of Youth? Disturb her slumber? Ha! You must be jesting!" Sivir laughed heartily, as if she had heard the funniest joke. "Who cares how long she sleeps here? She can slumber for as long as she pleases; I have no inclination to monitor her."

"As for what I am doing here... heehee... it's quite simple! Since my power has been recovering far too slowly after my reincarnation, I heard of your realm's emergence and thought I'd pay an old friend a visit. I also intended to borrow the Wand of Time from your esteemed Goddess; with it, my divine power can be restored more swiftly!"

As her words faded, the woman before him erupted into a cascade of sparkling light, dissipating like a fleeting dream.

Nasus was taken aback, realizing that the Wand of Time, which had been hovering behind her, had vanished without his notice.

In the vast hall, only the echoes of her teasing laughter remained.

"Oh dear, Nasus! After all these years, you're still so gullible! Ha! You really thought I would take the time to reminisce with you? I'd rather spend my time at the opera, listening to some poignant love stories. Truth be told, I was merely stalling for time to make off with something valuable! You really couldn't see through such a trivial scheme? How will you protect your little goddess now?"

"Ah, in light of our long-standing friendship, I'll generously help you gain some experience. There's a saying among humans: 'A fall teaches one wisdom.' You've had your misfortune this time, but next time, you won't be so easily deceived. I'm doing you a favor, really! You don't need to thank me; it's just my kind-hearted nature. Hmm... perhaps I should be called the Goddess of Kindness instead of the Goddess of War, ha!"

"Well then, farewell! I'll borrow the Wand of Time for a couple of days; after all, your little goddess won't be needing it. Once my strength is restored, who knows? I might just be in a good mood and return it to you. So, until we meet again, my dear little doggy! Ha!"

As she gazed at the emptiness of the hall, the echoes of her taunts ringing in his ears, Nasus, like an enraged hound, bared his teeth in fury and roared.

"Argh!!! Sivir!! You cannot escape!"

The tremendous sound reverberated through countless walls, resonating throughout the entire interior of the pyramid.

In synchrony with his furious roar, the massive stone door at the pyramid's entrance, which had been poised to open for an entire day, suddenly slammed shut.

The sealed door isolated the entire interior of the pyramid from the outside world.

Simultaneously, somewhere within the pyramid, a certain individual was awakened by the resounding roar that echoed throughout the structure.

"Hmm… what was that roar? Hehe… Nasus seems quite furious. I like it! Who could have provoked him to such rage? That person must be quite impressive. Hehe… since he's so formidable, I wouldn't mind taking a bite or two, would he? Hehe… anyone who can anger Nasus must be interesting; I do love feasting on the flesh and blood of intriguing powerful beings! Hahaha…"

Amidst the low, raspy, and terrifying laughter, a bulky and grotesque figure cast a long shadow across the floor, reminiscent of a nightmare creature. The massive crocodilian head, with its two beady red eyes, glinted menacingly under the flickering light of the magical lamps, exuding a savage and cruel aura…
