Chương 27: Paths To Power

The four of them stood in the burnt remains of the Hale house, the weight of the past and the future heavy on their shoulders. Scott looked around, anxious and uncertain. "So, what do we do now?"

Jasper smiled. "I've got a few plans in mind." He turned to Derek, his tone growing thoughtful. "First things first, you'll need to get that alpha spark. Without it, you won't be able to rebuild the Hale pack."

Derek absorbed this, understanding Jasper's implication. Getting the spark would mean facing the Alpha who stole it. Scott glanced at Derek, recognizing the gravity but unable to voice it, his only reaction a nervous shifting as he processed the suggestion.

Jasper continued with a smirk, "Also, I've been thinking about buying this land—the Hale house and the surrounding area—from the town." He raised an eyebrow at Derek. "You know, you could use it as pack territory once you get the spark back and form a pack of your own."

Derek contemplated it, then shook his head slightly. "Honestly, I'd rather you keep it. This place means a lot to me, but after the fire, it's… hard to see it as home."

Jasper nodded, respecting the decision. Scott and Stiles exchanged a glance, then looked at Jasper, curiosity burning in their eyes. Scott asked, "But what about us? What are we supposed to do?"

Jasper turned to him, studying Scott intently. After a moment, he asked Derek, "Do you know what a True Alpha is?"

Derek's eyes widened slightly. "My mother told me about it once, but most people think it's just a myth."

Jasper nodded, then looked at Scott with a knowing gaze. "A True Alpha isn't a myth. The concept has faded because over time, werewolves grew weaker, losing the legacy of their convictions and strength of character. A True Alpha rises purely on the strength of their character, through sheer will, without stealing the status or inheriting it. It's a rare type of Alpha, not created by killing or bloodline, but by their unshakable virtues."

Scott's eyes widened, stunned. Derek crossed his arms, eyeing Scott. "You're saying… he could be one?"

Jasper chuckled. "Scott's got strong convictions, that's for sure. And I think we'd all agree he's got a good heart, though he's a bit too… naive." He threw Scott a playful look, making both Derek and Stiles nod in agreement, causing Scott's cheeks to turn pink.

Derek, however, wasn't fully convinced. "He can't just become a True Alpha because of that."

Jasper's eyes gleamed. "No, he can't. But being a progenitor does come with a few perks."

At this, Derek's expression shifted to surprise. "You're… a progenitor?" His voice was tinged with both awe and suspicion, as if he were seeing Jasper in an entirely new light.

Stiles perked up, looking between them. "Wait, you know what a progenitor is?"

Derek nodded, his gaze still fixed on Jasper. "Progenitors are like the originals—the beginning. All supernatural races have them. Humans had Adam and Eve; werewolves had Lycaon, the first of his kind. Every werewolf today is a descendant of Lycaon. If Jasper's saying he's a progenitor, then he's not just any Alpha. He's something new altogether."

Scott and Stiles were stunned, both of them staring at Jasper, who simply smirked and shrugged.

"Guess we're going to need a little openness if we're going to work together."

With that, he closed his eyes, and his body began to shift. His eyes turned a deep, glowing red, and his form transformed into a towering, 8-foot bipedal wolf with a sleek black pelt streaked with silver. The weight of his presence filled the room, an Alpha's aura radiating from him.

The power surged through the space, causing Scott and Derek's inner wolves to respond instinctively, pushing both to partially shift in response. Stiles, caught in the middle, felt as if the air itself was pressing down on him, nearly unbearable.

Before the pressure could overwhelm them, Jasper relaxed, returning to his human form and letting the aura dissipate. Scott and Derek were left panting, trying to regain their composure, while Stiles was still catching his breath.

"So," Jasper began, almost casually, "as I was saying, one perk I have as a progenitor is that I can help stimulate Scott's spark, if he's ready."

Scott looked up, still recovering. "Are you… are you going to do that now?"

Jasper shook his head with a calm smile. "No, not yet. I can only be the spark, but the desire to ignite it has to come from you, Scott. Right now, you still see this bite as a curse. Until you can accept what you are—embrace the wolf inside—you won't be able to fully awaken it."

Scott lowered his gaze, taking in Jasper's words. The weight of his own potential and fear mixed together. He glanced at Derek and Stiles, who both seemed deep in thought, grappling with what they'd just witnessed and learned.

Jasper took a step back, glancing over the group. "Think about it. All of you, Oh, and Derek, try to be careful when you're outside for the next few days, your ex-girlfriends might be in town" he said. Then, with a slight wave, he made his way outside, the sound of his car's engine roaring to life a few moments later, leaving them to process the gravity of the revelations.

As the Mustang faded into the distance, Scott, Derek, and Stiles looked at each other, still processing everything Jasper had shared with them. The stakes had risen, and the path forward was clear: they had to be ready to embrace who they were, or risk losing everything Beacon Hills stood for.
