Noelle Silva is a noble and the second daughter of House Silva in the Clover Kingdom, one of its royal families.
Her childhood was nothing short of a nightmare: her mother died shortly after Noelle's birth, and the blame for this tragedy was unjustly placed on Noelle. Because of this, she became the target of constant ridicule and mistreatment.
Noelle's eldest brother, Nozel, has a complicated relationship with her. He treats her poorly because of her initial inability to control her magic. He frequently scolds her, insults her, and mocks her shortcomings. Nozel often accuses her of bringing shame to House Silva and sarcastically questions how long she plans to continue dishonoring their family. This attitude stands in stark contrast to how he treats their other siblings, Solid and Nebra, with far more respect.
Most of the time, Nozel simply ignores Noelle, which hurts her just as much.
The worst treatment, however, comes from Solid and Nebra. Solid, another of Noelle's brothers, is far more sadistic in his behavior toward her. As a child, he would steal her toys, mock her, tear them apart, and even throw food at her. He particularly enjoyed humiliating her if she started eating before him. Even as they grew older, Solid continued to degrade her, constantly berating her inability to control her magic.
Nebra, their sister, also treats Noelle poorly, though her behavior is mostly limited to following Solid's lead and joining in on his taunts.
Noelle hates being at home. She constantly pushes herself to prove her worth to her family, but fear and insecurity often hold her back. Every day, she trains tirelessly to improve her magic, but her efforts often end in failure as her spells miss their targets. Despite this, she refuses to give up, even though many others in her place would have given in to despair long ago.
One day, during yet another training session, Noelle muttered under her breath:
"Why? Why? Why?! Whyyyy?!"
With every word, she fired another water sphere into the air, each one dissipating uselessly. Frustration consumed her as she prepared to launch another, but then she suddenly heard a cheerful voice behind her:
"Wow, that's so cool!"
Startled, she turned around and saw a boy about her age with ash-gray hair. His appearance immediately told her he was a commoner. Her heart sank as she imagined him laughing at her failures, adding more humiliation to her already heavy burden.
But instead of mocking her, the boy ran up to her, grabbed her hands, and looked straight into her eyes with a wide, starry-eyed smile.
"Your magic is so amazing and powerful! Even someone like me, who has no magic at all, can feel how strong and incredible you are!"
Noelle froze in place. She had never heard words of praise in her entire life. No one in her family had ever shown her kindness, warmth, or encouragement. And yet, this boy—a complete stranger—radiated all of that through his words and actions.
Before she could find the words to respond, the boy introduced himself, offering his hand for a handshake:
"My name's Asta! I'm from Hage Village. Nice to meet you!"
Snapping out of her stupor, Noelle, flustered and shy, managed to stammer:
"M-m-my name is Noelle Silva."
For the first time in what felt like forever, a small smile tugged at her lips.
