As they wrapped up the day, Reiki handed out resources to Obito, Kakashi, and Rin.
"Obito, you'll come back with me later. Rin, you need more experience with medical ninjutsu, so head to the hospital for practice. I'll inform the teacher," Reiki instructed. "Kakashi, take this time to refine your sword skills and learn from Uncle Sakumo."
Rin sighed. "Lately... it's been hard to get assignments at the hospital," she said with a touch of frustration.
"Ah, I almost forgot about that," Reiki said, then handed her a letter and a box of potions. "Use this recommendation to find suitable missions and work with other medical ninjas."
"Thank you!" Rin said with relief.
"Reiki, are you trying to replace me as their sensei?" Minato joked, his eyes twinkling.
"Brother Minato is joking," Reiki replied. "Let's go. Kushina-nee and the others should be waiting for us. If we're late, we might get in trouble."
Minato's eyes widened at the mention of Kushina's wrath, and he vanished instantly.
Reiki smiled. "Good luck in this year's Chunin Exam!" he said, waving as he left with Obito. Rin and Kakashi headed home.
Back at the courtyard, dinner was already prepared. As expected, Kushina was chatting away, lightly scolding Minato, who stood by, smiling like a content fool.
After dinner, Kushina looked at Reiki and Minato with curiosity. "A check-up? But I feel fine. Why now?"
"Jinchūriki are often at risk of the tailed beast's chakra causing disruptions," Reiki explained. "With your strength, it's nothing to worry about, but a check-up can't hurt."
Kushina considered this and smiled. "Alright, thank you, Brother Reiki."
If not for knowing that Reiki already had admirers, Kushina might have played matchmaker with Nozuki and him. Talented boys like him were rare.
"Sister Kushina, here's a potion to help with the check-up," Reiki said, handing her a vial.
"Okay." Kushina drank the potion and lay down. Reiki placed his hands over her, releasing his chakra into her body. Soon, he found the seal of the Nine Tails.
Suddenly, an intense, dark aura erupted.
"So, this is the Nine Tails," Reiki whispered, awe-struck. The beast's immense chakra was overwhelming.
A deep voice rumbled, "Who are you, boy? And why are you inside Kushina's body?"
Reiki was taken aback. So Kushina could communicate with the Nine Tails after all. At least enough for it to speak.
"I'm just visiting the famed Kurama, the mightiest of the tailed beasts. How does it feel to be sealed for eternity?" Reiki smirked, sitting casually.
"What are you implying, boy?" Nine Tails snarled, straining against the seal.
"I want you to lend your power to Sister Kushina, and I'll heal you in return. You don't really want to be trapped like this forever, do you?" Reiki continued.
"Heal me? You, a mere human—" The beast scoffed but paused when a familiar presence emanated from Reiki. A shadow of Chōmei, the Seven Tails, appeared behind him.
"Kurama, what he says is true," Chōmei said briefly before fading away.
Nine Tails was silent for a moment, then muttered, "I won't lend my power to that woman. She's... not exactly kind to me."
Reiki blinked in surprise. The great Nine Tails sounded almost sulky. Was this really the fearsome beast he'd read about? But knowing Kushina's temperament, he could understand why the beast felt that way.
"I can promise that if you cooperate, Sister Kushina will be more understanding," Reiki said, though he doubted himself even as he spoke. Kushina's fiery temper was well-known.
"Ha! I sensed your doubt just now, human. You can't deceive me," Nine Tails said, glaring at Reiki.
"Well, then let me heal you. At least let me prove I'm not lying."
Before Nine Tails could react, Reiki's chakra enveloped it. The beast began to growl, but before it could lash out, Kushina's seal activated, restraining it with chains.
Nine Tails' expression turned defeated. "This is my life now..."
"Release," Reiki whispered, using his chakra to break the chains and continue healing.
His true goal was not just to check on Kushina but to gather valuable experience by treating the Nine Tails. After all, working with tailed beasts was a rare and profound opportunity.
