Ever since arriving in that chaotic void, Owen's daily experience had been one of drifting aimlessly between the violent currents of the dimensional cracks. Strangely, he survived—thanks to what could only be described as bizarre luck. Countless times, he was nearly sucked into the destructive torrents, but each time, he was miraculously pulled out by another current. The balance of forces kept him drifting, alive but neither here nor there.
As time passed, he noticed changes in his body. His physical age was regressing—he was getting smaller, his clothes becoming oversized. When he shrank to a certain point, his cognitive abilities began to deteriorate.
It felt as though his age was reversing, and his brain was devolving.
If this continued, even if he wasn't torn apart by the chaotic currents, he feared his body would regress back to a fertilized egg, and then he'd vanish entirely.
But once again, fortune smiled upon him. Just before completely reverting into an embryo, he accidentally stumbled into another rift. This time, he emerged safely from the other side, finding himself at the doorstep of a new world—specifically, at the entrance of the orphanage.
By then, Owen had reverted to an infant. All the clothes and belongings he'd had with him had been lost somewhere in the rift, except for his underwear and a white iron card with his name, Owen, inscribed on it—giving him the name he would carry in this new life.
As Owen grew older, he began to notice the changes that his time in the space-time corridor had brought. These changes made him feel as though, even without a "system" like the protagonists of typical transmigration novels, he had still been chosen by fate.
He discovered he possessed the talent for unlimited learning and growth, somewhat akin to Saitama from One Punch Man, but with differences.
Any ability, talent, or skill he had could be improved infinitely through practice and study.
If he trained, his body would grow stronger. If he studied, he'd master new knowledge. If he honed his willpower, it would become more resilient. If he thought critically, his intelligence would expand.
It was as though there were no "limiters" in place at all. Even the talent that determined his rate of progress could be improved through effort.
For a long time, Owen became obsessed with studying and training, pushing himself until he realized something was wrong—he was becoming too different from everyone else. It was only then that he slowed down.
He also found that he had a remarkable affinity for time and space. He could sense distances without any reference points and perceive the passage of time without a clock—undoubtedly a benefit from his time spent drifting in the space-time corridor.
Moreover, as he grew older, Owen noticed he could unconsciously affect and alter physical objects. He could move cups of water, make spoons disappear, and when he concentrated hard enough, he felt time slow down around him. Occasionally, he even summoned objects from other worlds.
Thanks to his mature mind and self-control, he managed to prevent accidents caused by emotional outbursts and gradually learned to consciously wield this power—what was essentially "magic."
Now, he could move small objects with his mind and instinctively use some time-space abilities. For instance, he could briefly manipulate his personal flow of time, much like Emiya Kiritsugu's "Time Alter" ability or "Bullet Time" from The Matrix. He could also use summoning magic—though most attempts failed, occasionally, he'd summon something from another world.
To date, his treasure trove was filled with bizarre items from various dimensions, including a Konoha headband from the Naruto world, a katana resembling a Zanpakutō, a Master Ball, a novel titled Energetic Dragon Maid, written in Nordic script with illustrations, an erotic book by the author "Eiri Kashiwagi," and even a coin etched with "I hope my sisters grow up with me and get married together" (a wishing coin thrown into Dalaran's fountain by Sylvanas Windrunner). There was also a ring called "Doran's Lost Ring," and more.
Most of what he summoned were non-living objects, with one exception—a small white cat named Himari, a demon cat from Omamori Himari. When he first summoned her, she was just a kitten. Owen raised her himself, and now, two years later, Himari was highly intelligent and almost human-like. He eagerly awaited the day she would speak and transform into her human form.
Until today, Owen had thought he'd simply been reborn in the 1980s or 1990s in Britain. With knowledge and experience far beyond his time, and a powerful "cheat" ability, he was confident he could become the richest man in the world during the internet boom, reaching the pinnacle of life.
That was until he opened the door and saw the white-bearded old man standing before him.
"Hello, Mr. Owen. I am Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts."
