"I don't like to eat candy!"
Clark recoiled, dodging the Joker's hand.
Suddenly, he recalled a story his father had told him and his eyes brightened as if he'd just figured something out. He shouted, "You're trying to lure me with candy! You're a bad guy! You're a human trafficker!"
The clown's eyes widened. "Damn kid!"
Noticing that Clark's shout was drawing attention, the clown grew desperate. He grabbed Clark roughly, hoisting him up, and prepared to flee.
Clark glared at the man and warned, "Let me go, or I'll be rude!"
"Rude?" The clown sneered. "I'll show you what rude really means in a minute."
Clark opened his mouth as if to scream, but the Joker quickly clamped a hand over it, thinking the boy was about to call for help.
Clark rolled his eyes and raised his fist.
The clown scoffed. With such a tiny fist, he wouldn't flinch even if Clark hit him a hundred times.
But then…
Wham!
Clark punched the Joker square in the jaw.
The clown's eyes bulged, and with a scream, he stumbled back.
Before he hit the ground, several of his teeth went flying.
"Ugh!"
Clark jumped down, spitting, and muttered, "Your hand stinks!"
The Joker clutched his shattered jaw, whimpering in fear.
By now, a small crowd had gathered, watching curiously.
Terrified, the clown scrambled to his feet and tried to flee, clutching his face.
Clark, eyes sparkling with mischief, shouted, "Catch him! I don't know him, and he tried to kidnap me!"
Hearing this, the onlookers, unsure of what had happened, immediately restrained the clown. A few angry bystanders even started throwing punches at him.
Clark grinned, slipping away from the crowd, and sat back down on the bench as if nothing had happened.
"Huh?" Raven at this moment came back from the bathroom, seeing the commotion she frowned and hurried over to Clark. "What's going on? Are you alright?"
Clark shook his head, wiping his mouth with his little hand. "Auntie, take me to wash up."
He hopped off the bench, pulling the still-confused Raven towards the bathroom.
...
As stars began to twinkle in the sky and the neon lights of Las Vegas turned the city into a paradise of sorts, Mike and his two companions descended from the sky, shrouded in the night mist.
"Let's grab a drink! Let's celebrate the death of that bastard Stryker," Remi Le Beau suggested as soon as they landed.
"Why not!" Logan exhaled a puff of smoke and then both men looked expectantly at Mike.
Mike shrugged. "I have to go see my son."
It had only been two days, but he already missed the little guy's adorable face.
Logan clapped Mike on the shoulder in understanding, while Remy raised an eyebrow. "You have a family?"
"Haha... you will have one too, eventually."
Mike waved goodbye to his friends, turning to leave. "See you around."
Logan called out, "Thanks, Mike."
Mike paused, then turned back to Logan. "Call me if you ever need help."
With that, Mike quickened his pace, vanishing into the night as his friends watched him go.
...
[Rose Hotel.]
Mike pushed the door open and stepped inside, stopping at Clark's door. Just before turning the knob, he paused, straightened his clothes, and patted his face.
Then, with a sigh, he took out the key and opened the door.
Whoosh!
A powerful leg whipped towards Mike's head.
Mike's eyelid twitched, but he didn't move.
As expected, the leg stopped just short of hitting him.
"Aren't you afraid I'll kick you?" Raven grumbled.
Mike just grinned and shook his head.
Raven, seeing this rolled her eyes, brushing her leg lightly against his ear.
Mike blinked, clearly not expecting that.
Raven's long leg rested on Mike's shoulder as she slowly leaned in.
Just then…
"Dad!"
Clark, rubbing his eyes, sat up from the bed. He beamed at Mike before freezing, noticing the odd position of his dad and Raven.
Both Mike and Raven looked awkward.
Clark quickly closed his eyes and loudly exclaimed, "Dad, where are you?"
He flopped forward, pulling the blanket over his head and started snoring.
"Pfft!"
Raven couldn't help but laugh, lowering her leg and muttering, "Little rascal!"
Mike took a step back, clearing his throat. "He didn't give you any trouble, did he?"
"Clark was a little angel," Raven smirked. "Much better behaved than you."
Mike nodded, grateful. "Thanks for watching him these past two days."
Raven grinned mischievously, leaning closer to Mike. "How are you going to repay me?"
"Didn't I save you?" Mike teased.
Raven glared at him, snorted, and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her.
Mike, seeing this chuckled softly.
Peeking out from under the blanket, Clark asked, "Dad, why's Aunt Raven mad?"
"You'll understand when you're older."
"Ah, women!"
Clark sighed, sitting up in bed.
Mike burst out laughing and sat down beside him, giving his son a playful flick on the forehead.
"What do you know?"
Clark stuck his tongue out, hugging his dad. Yawning, he started recounting his day at the amusement park with Raven, but his voice grew quieter…
Mike smiled, tucking him back into bed before heading to the bathroom.
....
The next morning, the sky was clear and the weather perfect again.
After finishing his morning routine and setting up the toothbrush for Clark, Mike turned to see the little guy still curled up in bed, drooling and snoring peacefully.
He cleared his throat and said, "Mmm, beef..."
"Beef? Where?"
Clark bolted upright, eyes wide.
"Haha!"
Clark pouted at his dad. "You tricked me again!"
Mike chuckled, ruffling his hair. "Come on, get up, brush your teeth, and have breakfast. We're leaving soon."
"Leaving?" Clark rubbed his eyes. "Are we going home?"
Mike nodded.
"But wasn't our house blown up?"
"We're going to New York," Mike said, pulling Clark out of bed.
"New York?" Clark's eyes widened with excitement.
"Yep, back to New York."
"But Dad, didn't you say we were going home?"
"Dad has a home in New York too." Mike pointed towards the bathroom. "Hurry up! You'll miss your flight."
"Yay!" Clark cheered and dashed off to the bathroom.
