The next couple of months flew by quickly, and the town of Pronoe continued as normal for the most part.
But there was a subtle mood that spread around the town, one that no one could really point their finger on.
As the months went on, Lucia's scouting parties were making slow but steady progress.
From the reports they had sent back, the scouts would be able to pinpoint a few other villages in a week or two at most.
That was news to celebrate since their supposed deadline was coming in about a month.
And so with the time for migration incoming the village would have to be told about the situation.
However, in no way would Alfie spread the truth that the all-father of gods was possibly going to smite them.
Instead, he chose to announce that a massive flood was incoming on the first days of the spring season.
The public was told It would last long enough that they had to seek shelter from the other villages that supposedly existed.
The citizens were a bit suspicious but with the chief and general supporting Alfie's claim, the citizens accepted his lie without a second's hesitation.
But while the general public was informed a month before the migration, trusted government officials were let into the plan months in advance.
So far the plan consisted of splitting the people into groups based on their expertise and characteristics.
Jess and Clare were the main two who handled forming groups, as they were knowledgeable about the characters of the townsfolk.
Lucia on the other hand was training her soldiers to be in top condition for the migration's potential dangers.
As for Alfie, he spent most of his time teaching Sonia everything he could to make her prepared for what was to come.
After the announcement of the flood, the village's morale was on a low. Although Alfie had added to his lie about the flood with scientific facts, there were still people suspicious.
Many called out the fact that the counselor had once offended the gods in his early days. This caused the rumors to evolve into the fact that the counselor was responsible for this flood and their sudden evacuation.
Although no one spoke up about it, the thought lingered in the minds of most citizens despite Jess and Clare's best efforts.
Getting smitten by a god was truly not an easy stain to buffer out of a reputation.
By the time there were only 2 weeks left, the scouts had finally come back with a safe route to several villages.
The villages of Wisdom, Forging, and Harvest were the ones that Alfie had chosen for his people to be sent to.
He felt that with the skills and knowledge he had passed onto his people, these three towns were the ones where they would thrive the most.
Assuming that Alfie's previous knowledge was correct, these three villages could give ample protection against the Allfather's wrath.
With only a few days left until the end of Pronoe, Alfie who had been in his office like usual ended up leaving early from the work day.
Before the time came to an end he wanted to spend more time with Lucia. It was a bit selfish of him to leave work just so he could meet up with her, but Alfie felt he deserved to be sometimes.
As Alfie walked and caught sight of the training grounds of Pronoe, he witnessed what seemed to be a little tournament happening.
It was nothing too serious, with no weapons involved but it provided a great deal of security to those watching.
With the migration coming, people were worried about attacks from animals on the journey. With this showcase of might, however, those who came to witness the spectacle became a lot more relieved.
After the match Alfie had been watching finished up, he decided to go into the nearby building.
The building held an armory, a cafeteria of sorts, and some offices of higher military personnel. But most importantly, that was where Lucia was most likely at.
Making a beeline straight towards Lucia's office, Alfie arrived at the room in less than 2 minutes. Inside he saw his wife, sleeping with her head laid down on her desk.
Alfie smiled at such a sight, he contemplated whether or not to wake her up, and eventually chose not to.
Just like him, she had been going through so much and a good nap was sure to help. In fact, she was probably going through a much harder ordeal.
During the last couple of months, before and after their responsibilities called for them they spent nearly every second by each other's side.
On some days Alfie would babble on about earth and go into anything that came into mind while Lucia listened and asked questions.
There were times when during their morning training they would instead just walk around the village enjoying the scenery and each other's presence.
They had taken turns cooking meals for the other, and while Lucia was a good cook they found out that Alfie edged her out in the cooking department.
They had lost so much time and they were trying their best to make up for it in the limited time they did have left.
In the previous days, storm clouds had formed in the distant area, and while they didn't do anything it was abnormal in the fact they lingered in the sky.
Time was running out, and Alfie knew it. So in his last couple of days, he wanted nothing more than to spend time with his wife.
While reminiscing he noticed Lucia shiver a bit, so with a warm smile, he took off his cloak and placed it around her. But just as his hands were making sure the cloak wrapped around Lucia's waist, he felt a small kick coming from inside Lucia.
