Chương 37: 37 Wrath of the Shopping Carts
Zoe and her team landed near the ValueMart building, watching as it shifted between the familiar store and the alien Velharr Vault structure.
Veins of shimmering magic pulsed through the stone whenever the vault appeared, creating an almost hypnotic effect.
Before she could voice her thoughts, Serria pointed ahead, eyes wide. "Guys, I think the carts are going rogue," she said, her voice tinged with concern.
The ground around them seemed to come alive.
Scattered shopping carts began to move, slowly rolling toward each other, the sound of clattering metal growing louder.
Even pieces of asphalt vibrated, bouncing lightly as if pulled into some strange, synchronized dance.
Gradually, the carts and debris rolled to a central point, fusing together to form a larger mass.
The noise was almost deafening as limbs and a crude torso emerged from the chaos.

This chapter was a lot of fun to write because it allowed me to really play around with the bizarre and almost comical side of this magical-fusion landscape. The Corrupted Cart Golem was a blast to conceptualize—a monster made of rogue shopping carts and ValueMart debris isn't something you see every day, right? I wanted the fight to be both challenging and humorous, highlighting the team's abilities while giving Zoe that feeling of being stuck in a weirdly epic boss battle.
One thing I focused on was balancing the surreal humor with the tension of an actual fight. The golem is quirky, sure, but it's also dangerous, and I hope that came across. The glowing core as a weak point was definitely inspired by classic video game boss fights—that sense of targeting the enemy where it's most vulnerable, and the satisfaction of seeing teamwork pay off.
Serria's observation about the core was pivotal here, showcasing her analytical side and how each team member brings something valuable to the table. I'm always looking to make sure every character has their moment in the spotlight, and this battle seemed like a perfect opportunity for that.
