Chương 17: Figuring Out The System

A week had passed since Ebilade settled into his new life and luxurious apartment, thanks to the Sign In System. The days had flown by, and today, he found himself lounging on the sleek leather sofa in his living room, enjoying one of his favorite TV shows, Lucifer. The giant OLED screen illuminated the space with vivid colors, and the sound system enveloped him in the rich, sarcastic banter of Lucifer Morningstar.

As the episode progressed, Lucifer was engaged in a heated conversation with Chloe Decker.

"Do you know what your problem is?" Chloe asked, her voice sharp with frustration.

Lucifer, with his usual smirk, replied, "Yes, detective, I have many. But do enlighten me, what is it this time?"

Chloe sighed heavily, her exasperation palpable. "You think you're invincible. That no one can hurt you. But you're wrong, Lucifer. Everyone has a weakness. Even you."

Lucifer's smirk faltered, his eyes flickering with a moment of vulnerability before he quickly masked it with his trademark arrogance. "Oh, I assure you, detective, my only weakness is that I care too much about what shoes I'm wearing."

Ebilade chuckled, shaking his head at Lucifer's cocky response. He lifted his glass of water to his lips, taking a slow sip. "Man, this guy... Always so smug. But damn if he isn't entertaining," he muttered to himself. "It's like he refuses to admit anything gets to him, even when it clearly does."

He leaned back, stretching his legs out on the sofa, his eyes glued to the screen. As he watched Lucifer juggle his devilish charm and growing human emotions, Ebilade couldn't help but admire the character's complexity. "You can be a king, but you're still human at the end of the day," Ebilade mused aloud, his voice thoughtful.

Meanwhile, across the room, Ebipade was seated at the dining table, deeply engrossed in reading online novels on his tablet. His eyes scanned the pages rapidly, flicking between different system-based novels, trying to piece together what kind of abilities and limitations the Sign In System might hold for his brother. His brow furrowed as he read through descriptions of overpowered protagonists gaining god-like abilities, followed by the inevitable twist where they encountered some tragic flaw or hidden danger lurking in their system.

Ebipade's fingers tapped the screen as he swiped through another chapter, his mind racing. There has to be a catch, he thought. These systems always have some hidden drawback. No way it's all just free power.

His eyes darted to his brother for a moment, watching Ebilade relax on the couch, seemingly carefree. Ebipade sighed, his lips pressing into a thin line. "You might want to start taking this more seriously, Lade," he muttered under his breath.

Back on the couch, Ebilade was still immersed in the show. Lucifer had just delivered one of his signature lines. "I don't need to lie, detective. The truth is much more fun."

Ebilade smirked at the screen, nodding in approval. "That's right, tell it like it is. What's the point of lying when you're the freaking devil?" he said to no one in particular, amused at how Lucifer always found a way to twist every situation to his advantage.

Just as he was about to settle deeper into the plot, a sudden ding sounded in his ear. Ebilade froze, his brow furrowing in confusion. The noise was distinct, sharp, and unmistakably different from anything coming from the show. He blinked and sat up straight, instinctively glancing around the room. "What the hell was that?" he mumbled, rubbing his ear, half-convinced it was just his imagination.

But then, the ding came again, clearer this time. And with it, a notification flashed in his mind, one he recognized immediately. His heart skipped a beat.

[Daily Sign-In Reward Available: Would you like to claim today's reward?]

Ebilade's eyes widened, and he immediately understood. The Sign In System was prompting him, offering him another reward. He quickly glanced over at Ebipade, who was still engrossed in his tablet, completely unaware of what was happening.

Ebilade bit the inside of his cheek, a sudden surge of excitement bubbling in his chest. He hadn't received any major rewards since settling into the apartment, and while everything had been smooth so far, he had been itching to see what the system would offer next.

He shifted his position, leaning forward on the couch, feeling the familiar rush of anticipation that came with these sign-ins. The system always seemed to surprise him. With a quick mental confirmation, he accepted the sign-in.

A glowing panel appeared in his mind, bright and vivid, the familiar text materializing before him.

[Congratulations! You have received: "Void Storage" - A personal storage space accessible anywhere, anytime. Capacity: Unlimited.]

Ebilade blinked, his breath hitching for a moment. "Void Storage?" he muttered, processing the new ability. A storage space that I can access at any time, with unlimited capacity?

A grin slowly spread across his face. "That's... that's insane," he whispered to himself, already imagining the endless possibilities. I could store anything. No more worrying about carrying stuff around or having to hide things.

He shook his head in disbelief, chuckling softly. "This system just keeps on giving."

Just then, Ebipade glanced up from his tablet, sensing the shift in his brother's mood. He saw the subtle grin on Ebilade's face and immediately narrowed his eyes. "What now? You get another reward or something?"

Ebilade looked over, his grin widening, clearly amused. "Oh, you have no idea. This system's playing the long game, and I think it just upped the ante."

Ebipade raised an eyebrow, intrigued but still cautious. "What did you get this time?"

Ebilade leaned back, the excitement still buzzing through him. "Unlimited storage space. I can access it anywhere. No limits. Imagine the possibilities."

Ebipade's eyes widened, his tablet forgotten for the moment. "Unlimited storage? Are you serious?" He sat up straighter, clearly impressed. "Damn, that's... that's something. But still..." His expression turned more thoughtful as he leaned back in his chair, tapping his chin. "You need to be careful, Lade. This system sounds powerful, but there's always a catch. I've been reading up on these kinds of things, and trust me, they never come without strings attached."

Ebilade waved him off, still riding the high of his new ability. "Yeah, yeah, I hear you. But right now? I'm just going to enjoy it."

He turned his attention back to the TV, where Lucifer was back to his usual antics, playing mind games with the detective. But even as he watched, his mind was already racing, filled with the new possibilities his system had opened up for him.

Ebipade, on the other hand, couldn't shake the feeling that something big was on the horizon. And for once, he wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
