Chương 34: Talent Registration [I]

As the guards slowly closed the distance on the soon-to-be traitor— Kaito, the world seemed to grow silent.

Dawn was in no mood to back down, so was Kaito standing defiantly like he was up to challenge the royal order.

But soon, Kaito let out a small chuckle, breaking the rising tension with the cheerful sound of his chuckle. His hand slowly crawled towards his mask, ready to pull it off as per Dawn's command.

After all, he was no match for her royalty and dare not defile her words otherwise, his head would probably be tossed into a trashcan before nightfall.

With every inch of movement he made, the tension in the air thickened as his real identity was about to be displayed for the world to see.

Finally, the tip of his fingers touched his mask, ready to pinch it off, not until a sharp call took everyone of them by surprise.

"Ace!"

They all turned towards the intruder who was none other than Armin. He caught up with the gathering, keenly observing what was going on before speaking.

"Don't tell me you were about to see beyond his mask." He said, his gaze locking unto that of Dawn.

"Yes!" She replied sharply.

Armin shook his head in disappointment, shifting his attention at Ace then back to Dawn. A small sigh of relief escaped his lips as he continued.

"Never heard of the urban legend whose face bewitched anyone who looks upon it?" He asked with an unbelievable look smeared in his eyes.

"You mean him?" Ace chipped in, nodding towards Kaito.

"Wanna see for yourself!" Armin snapped with a small scoff, turning back at Kaito to let go of his grip on the mask.

Dawn, still not satisfied but without choice, dismissed the guards who returned to nothing at once while her eyes laced over Kaito still inscribed in full doubt.

After all, she trusted Armin enough and she knew he wouldn't lie to her about such trivializing matters.

"We should get to the auditorium before the masters arrive— off we go!" Armin announced, forcing himself into the center of both before pulling them away from Kaito who gave a final bow to the royal— Dawn.

The trio eventually arrived at the auditorium, buzzing and flooded with students ranging from the first to third year.

As they walked into the auditorium, the once buzzling auditorium filled with clustered murmuring and chattering from respective students who were hanging around with their friends suddenly turned quiet.

They began to adjust their positions, forming a clear path for them to walk through. It was obvious the sheer action was backed up by Ace's presence.

"Is… is that him?" A girl stuttered, almost losing her breath as she clung tight at her friend.

"The photos does not do proper justice to his—"

"Pfft!" A boy behind the girls scoffed. "What's there to marvel about him? He looks average, don't you think?" He said to his other male friends who couldn't agree less in order to appease him.

'The creator definitely had some favorites before panning us into existence.' He moaned painfully to himself in his thoughts, gritting his teeth before walking away.

Ever since his sudden transformation had been roped into the academy's online broadcast room, everyone who had missed his appearance at first were dying to meet him in the flesh, perhaps be a part of his clique.

But then again, with his rising fame, it all can be washed down the drain if the dungeon adventurer's registration goes the wrong way for him.

He might get bottled with some simps for a while, but the most important thing for him to secure the hearts of all the students was to outlive the order with his ability which had to be top tier.

"Your stage presence is overshadowing that of the governor's daughter." Armin teased, finding a spot for themselves.

Ace returned an indifferent look, forcing a tired yawn down his throat as it seemed nothing in the auditorium was amusing enough to clear off his fuzziness.

About two minutes in, a man stepped into the stage, his presence calling for decorum in the auditorium. His name was Erik, the ability registrar for first year students and as well the head of department for mana class.

He was of average height with a tender goatee beard that seemed to be forced out with thousands of hair growth products.

His outfit was casual, well tailored brown pants held firmly at his waist with a skull belt which chewed a tuck on his white long sleeve shirt.

His shirt, a mixture of jet black and some hint of grayness which indicates he was not getting any younger. In his hand, he was holding a small book which Ace assumed was what he was probably looking for.

He turned to Dawn to confirm this, but her negative response pulled down his expectation as she shook her head as if she had read his mind like a book.

Erik mounted the podium, wasting no time before speaking to the students.

"Today's event is for the last dungeon adventurers who have returned. As you all know, the recognition for their respective summons and abilities must be recorded to master their talents?"

"Yes, Sir Erik." The students chorused in uniformity.

"Good." Erik smiled, pulling the book in his arm into view. "The wordless book will automatically show what ability, talent or summon you have awakened… none regardless of your social status." He added, driving out a collective chuckle from the students.

After the laughter had died down, he stepped to the side of the podium, holding the book out into the light before speaking a few words at it.

"Art of ultimate restoration!"

The pages of the book flared open, exhuming an otherworldly aura as it filled the auditorium with its white blinding lights that shone brighter than the stars.

The book fell from his hand, enlarging with each pulsing light that shrouded out of it, enough to fit in two king sized beds with its unending enlargement which soon mounted a stop as an orb overshadowed its existence, covering it up like a dome.

"In the original order," Erik began, pulling out a list of names of dungeon adventurers. "Class 1 Phase 3… Nia WinterBlade."

"Eh?" Armin exclaimed at the mention of that name. "Isn't she supposed to be dead?"
