Chương 117: Chapter 118

Under Kara's newfound clarity, or perhaps her reminder, Hal understands he now has to rely on himself; the Green Lantern Corps and the Asgardians on Oa have made it clear they don't intend to sacrifice their so-called elites simply to protect Earth.

But there's one complication—Kara may need the Green Lantern ring to safely operate in outer space.

For reasons unclear, the Green Lantern ring seems to show a peculiar awareness, floating towards Kara's left hand in a shimmering green arc. A sphere of green light gently lifts her hand, and the ring hovers, aiming directly for her left ring finger.

However, Kara easily pulls her hand away.

With a roll of her eyes, she mutters, What's up with this ring? Why does it act like it has a mind of its own?

"I could consider using it," Kara admits, still reluctant to accept the Green Lantern ring.

"Kara," whispers Dani, worry evident in her voice. "That's outer space. Are you sure you can survive out there? It's okay if you wear this ring, right?"

Dani can't understand why Kara is so resistant to the Green Lantern ring.

"If I could, I'd happily wear it in your place. But it chose you," Dani says, not out of a desire for the ring's power but out of a genuine wish to help Kara—and to make a difference in the fight to protect Earth.

Yet it's not up to Kara to decide whether she wants the ring. The Green Lantern ring chooses its bearer, and once chosen, only that individual can wield it. Even if someone else wants to wear it, it remains beyond their reach.

Hal, too, is baffled. When the ring selected him, it brought him to Abin Sur in a flash of green light, where he received the ring from the dying Lantern. He had no choice in the matter; once chosen, the ring was his.

But with Kara, the ring seems... affectionate. It circles her left hand like a loyal dog, persistently drawn to her left ring finger.

Kara gives it an annoyed look. Why does it have to go for this finger?

Everyone else in the room watches her with confusion. Even Hal is taken aback, wondering if there's something about the ring she's afraid of. Finally, Kara mutters, "It's just so ugly being dressed in green."

"Wait, what?"

Everyone stares, dumbfounded. Did she seriously just reject the ring because of the color?

"Green's basically the color of 'forgiveness.' Ugh, it's hideous. And why would they choose green to represent willpower? Does it take a lot of willpower to forgive? Guess that's the will of the Guardians for you," Kara complains.

Everyone's left with bewildered expressions, unsure if they're more stunned by her dislike of green or the sheer absurdity of the comment.

Even the ring seems to hesitate mid-air, as if taken aback by her reaction.

Dani comes up and throws her arms around Kara. "Kara, big sister, the Earth is on the line, and you're hung up on color?"

She gently tries to guide Kara's left hand towards the ring, hoping to help her put it on.

But Kara pulls back, "You're supposed to put it on yourself and recite the oath."

With a sigh, Dani steps back, realizing Kara needs to do this on her own.

Finally, Kara raises her left hand, looking around at the expectant faces. She sighs and mutters under her breath.

In truth, Kara is confident she can defeat Parallax even without the ring, though she's never faced anything quite on this level before. But if she's wrong? The Earth could be lost.

She doesn't really need the ring's power, but the willpower it offers could help counteract the fear Parallax thrives on, giving her an edge she can't ignore.

Slowly, she raises her right hand, and with a sigh, she finally takes hold of the ring.

An ancient voice fills the room, a solemn proclamation that resonates in everyone's ears as if it had come from the very walls themselves: "Daughter of Krypton, Kara Zor-El, your willpower is boundless. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps."

Kara nearly drops the ring in shock. "Did you really need to announce it?"

"Kara?" Dani looks at her, eyes wide. "Daughter of Krypton? Aren't you the daughter of Jonathan Kent, the farmer?"

Kara sighs, teeth gritted. "I'll explain later."

She slides the ring onto her left index finger, resolute.

In the next moment, words begin to form in her mind. She knows the oath instinctively, the words flowing as if she's always known them. She takes a breath and speaks aloud:

"In brightest night, in darkest dawn, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power—Green Lantern's light!"

Hal watches, surprised—the oath is different from his. But he doesn't dwell on it; he quickly retrieves his power battery to charge Kara's ring.

Suddenly, a dazzling green light bursts from Kara's ring, so intense it surpasses the glow of Hal's own ring.

Before anyone can react, Kara is lifted into the air, propelled by the ring's power rather than her own.

Kara, to her own surprise, doesn't resist. She suspects the ring is taking her to Oa and is curious to see what happens next.

As Dani and the others watch, stunned, Hal quickly dons his Green Lantern uniform. "I'll go after her; don't worry. I'll bring her back."

But as he flies out in pursuit, he quickly realizes he's lost sight of her. Even at top speed, he's so far behind her that he can't even catch a glimpse.

Unconcerned, Hal continues toward Oa, expecting to find her there.

However, upon his arrival, he's alarmed to see Oa on high alert. Green Lanterns are everywhere, standing guard outside the planet, eyes fixed on a single point.

Hal flies over and looks down, and to his shock, he sees Kara standing there already, face-to-face with the Asgardians, calm and composed.
