"Don't go, don't go," Liam murmured in his sleep. Zuri, who was lying next to him, shifted her body to get closer to Liam. Sweat dripped down Liam's forehead, indicating that he was wrestling with a nightmare. Zuri gently stroked his forehead to ease the fear he was experiencing.
Zuri's gentle touch slowly calmed Liam's breathing and his tense body finally relaxed a little. Zuri looked at Liam's wrinkled face as he fell asleep, realizing that behind his cold demeanor, Liam harbored wounds and fears that were probably as deep as hers. Whatever he was going through seemed to be more than just a business secret or a ruse.
"Liam..." Zuri whispered softly, almost as if talking to herself. "What are you keeping from me?" But she knew the answer would not come tonight. They were both drowning in uncertainty that only time could resolve.
