Zuri's eyes were currently covered with a black cloth. She didn't know where she was being taken. The darkness was suffocating. It was a sensation that resonated with Princess Elara, not Zuri herself.
After a while, the car finally stopped. "Get out, now!" one of the men ordered harshly. They pulled her out of the car, and Zuri felt the cold air hit her face.
A door creaked open, and Zuri was dragged inside. She was roughly forced into a cold chair and her hands were tied to it. The blindfold was suddenly ripped off. Zuri blinked, trying to adjust to the dim light in the room. When her vision cleared, she saw that she was in a small, empty room with no windows. There was only one door.
The door opened again, revealing a tall, burly man with a snake tattooed on his neck. He approached her with a cruel grin.
"Well, well, look who we have here," he said in a hoarse voice. "Mr. Liam's beautiful wife. But unfortunately, her husband is quite ugly." He grabbed Zuri's chin, forcing her to look up. Zuri was confused. Why would this man say that Liam was ugly? Had he never met Liam?
"What do you want?" Zuri asked boldly.
"Oh, very bold. I love wild women like this," the tattooed man said with a wicked grin.
"We just wanted to see your husband," the man replied with a smile. "But he seems to be difficult to meet and talk to nicely. So we used a little bait." He gestured at Zuri with his head.
"Bait?" Zuri repeated, her voice trembling slightly despite her efforts to sound calm. "You think kidnapping me will make Liam do what you want?"
The tattooed man smiled. "Yes, of course. Liam is the kind of person who doesn't like to be disturbed. And you, sweetheart, are considered his favourite possession."
Zuri clenched her jaw, trying to hold back the fear. "Haha... you're wrong. I'm not his favourite. So don't expect much from him," she said, trying to irritate the tattooed man in front of her.
The man leaned towards Zuri, bringing his face closer so that the smell of alcohol could be clearly smelled. "Oh, we know more than you think. You see, Miss Zuri, this isn't just about you. It's about Liam's pride, and he'll definitely come when he knows what's already his is in our hands."
Suddenly, the sound of a cell phone ringing broke the silence of the room. The tattooed man reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a cell phone, looking at the screen for a moment before answering the call. "Boss," he said, signaling the other two to keep an eye on Zuri. He turned and walked away, but Zuri could still faintly hear the conversation.
"What do we do with him? ...Yeah, he's here. Liam? No word yet... Well, we'll just keep waiting... Yes, I understand."
When the tattooed man returned, his evil grin still remained. "The boss has ordered us," he said as he approached Zuri again. "We'll wait for Liam, but if he doesn't show up either, then we'll start having fun." He licked his lips slowly, his eyes raking over Zuri's body with a hungry look.
Eventually, they all left, leaving Zuri alone in the small, dark room. The extinguished lights plunged her into absolute darkness, and a suffocating feeling crept upon her. It wasn't Zuri who felt it, but Princess Elara. Memories of her childhood trauma resurfaced; the kidnapping by a clan rebelling against her father, the king. They had locked her in a cramped, lightless room, leaving her to starve. Two days of agonizing hunger and fear, until a boy, another captive, older than her, found and rescued her.
"Help..." Zuri gasped, tears streaming down her face. Just as her senses started to fade, the door burst open. A figure clad in black, face hidden behind a balaclava, rushed in. With swift movements, he cut the ropes binding Zuri and lifted her into his arms.
"Father... the great King," Zuri whimpered, calling out to her father. It was Princess Elara, actually, calling out to her father as she opened her eyes, hoping to see him. Princess Elara's thoughts and her childhood trauma were so vivid they blurred with the present, making it difficult to separate past from present. But the man before her was a stranger.
"Who are you?" she asked softly, her voice hoarse.
The man didn't answer, just continued to carry her out of the old warehouse.
"Bastard! You can't just leave like that! are you the trash that ugly Liam sent out ?" The man with a snake tattoo on his neck stepped out from beside the old warehouse, grinning cruelly.
The man set Zuri down gently. His eyes, the only part of his face visible behind the balaclava, bored into hers.
He leaned closer, his voice a low growl: "Calm down." Zuri's breath hitched in her throat as he continued. "When I tell you to run, run west. And don't look back, no matter what you hear." His voice was close to her ear, a urgent whisper. "There's a black car waiting. Get in. My friend will take you home."
"You want to die!" the tattooed man roared, gun raised. "But it's good that you came to surrender." He gestured with the gun, his grin widening. "After we're done with you, you can deliver a message to that bastard Liam. Tell him to give up his territory in the south of the city. Hand it over to my boss. If he agrees, then maybe, just maybe, you and his wife will live."
"Run!" the man shouted, giving Zuri a hard shove toward the darkness. Tears streamed down her face as she fled, the sounds of gunfire and a struggle echoing behind her. She didn't look back, remembering the masked man's instructions.
Zuri sprinted until she saw the black car waiting with its door open. She scrambled inside, and the car sped away immediately.
Two men in black, their faces hidden behind masks, were inside the car with her. Neither of them spoke, and Zuri, exhausted and confused, didn't have the energy to question them.
The car moved slowly, lulling Zuri into an uneasy sleep. She woke to find the car stopping at the gates of the Hayes family mansion.
The two men said nothing as they ushered her out of the car. Before Zuri could ask any questions, the car sped away.
"Miss Zuri!" Anya cried, running to her and hugging her tightly.
"Are you okay?" Anya asked, tears welling in her eyes.
Zuri, still shaken and limping slightly, managed a nod. Together they went into the house.
"Where's Liam?" asked Zuri, suddenly annoyed that Liam had not come to help her.
"Mr. Liam is resting in his room," Anya said, making Zuri angry.
"Liam was a bastard! I was in a life or death situation and he was sleeping!" Zuri grumbled as she stormed over to Liam's room and threw open the door. Anya, who wanted to stop her, could do nothing.
Liam could be seen sleeping on his side.
"Damn it! I was kidnapped because of him and he was sleeping peacefully!" Zuri said irritably, then punched Liam's back with all her might.
"Ouch!" Liam let out a small groan and immediately turned around to see who had hit him. His face looked like he was in pain, even though Zuri's punch wasn't too hard.
Zuri, upset, immediately left Liam's room and went to her own room. When she went to wash her hands, she noticed blood stains on the palm of the hand she had used to hit Liam earlier.
"Why is there blood? Was I hurt earlier? Why didn't I feel any pain?"
