Chương 4: Chapter 3-Nalia
I hear a knock on the door and go to open the door to avoid waking Kosi up. When I open the door, I expect to see Amber or Alessia, but instead, I see Alexander. I still myself, and leave the door open so that he can enter and say whatever he has to say.
He then says, "Hi Amaia."
I scoff at the fact that he's calling me my middle name now, and I say, "Don't call me that."
He sighs, and says, "I apologize. I wanted to make a proposition." I sit down waiting for him to talk, and he says, "I think we should carry on with what our parents are saying."
"God forbid."
He sighs, and says, "Hear me out. If they cut us all off, our parents have the power to blacklist us from getting jobs. Our only survival will be our personal savings account."
"So?"
"So, let's at least pretend we are agreeing with them until they see we are not compatible one bit," he says.
"So, you're saying we should feign agreement? Did you hear when they said our engagement is in two weeks?"
"Yeah, but we will just carry on with that. It's an engagement, not marriage. We might have to go on dates too."
I put on a disgusted look, and say, "That's a major disadvantage. I don't have any plans on going out on dates with you, to be honest."
He smiles wryly, and says, "I'm aware. We still have to do this though. They aren't budging. They believe we are a perfect match and that they made the right choice." I roll my eyes, and say, "Well, see you in the next two weeks. Our engagement will be then. Let's put on a show for everyone."
He nods, and says, "We have to tell them that we agree with their plans. I would also like to apologize."
"For what?"
He rubs his face, and says, "For what happened years ago. I shouldn't have said it was a mis-"
I raise my hand to stop him and tell him, "Don't say anything. It has been years, and you made it a mission to ignore me so, keep on doing that. This farce shouldn't change that. We both know you don't care so, don't apologize because your fortune is at stake."
He looks hurt, and says, "I did try to apologize, but you blocked me everywhere."
I glare at him. "If reaching out to me was the problem, then it's not you. You couldn't face me so, you opted to text your apologies for saying what happened that day was a mistake. You knew where I was schooling, and you knew when I was coming home. You made it your mission to not even cross paths with me unknowingly because you ignored me knowingly. Let's not put the blame on me now bro. You could not face me, and I'm okay with your cowardice if you never bring it up again. This is just a friendly reminder that whatever we are doing that requires physical interactions between us, is to prevent being cut off from our fortune. Are we done talking?"
He looks dejected but nods. He tightens his face and says, 'I'll be in touch. Do try and unblock me seeing as I'm your future fiance."
He leaves the house, and I mutter curses.
I turn around to find an amused Kosi behind me. She says, "Thank you for encouraging me to move. How would I have all these entertainment?" I flip her off, and she laughs. "He seems apologetic."
I roll my eyes, and say, "Because of his inheritance. He's the first child after all." She's deep in thought, and asks, "Do you think you'll ever forgive him?"
"No." She nods, and says, "Are we going to check our potential apartments?"
I roll my eyes, and say, "I'll have to talk to my parents. Alex and I are telling them that we agree with their arrangement, so they won't want us to stay in an apartment where we'll have to pay when we already have a lot of apartments."
"So, do you guys have buildings where I can buy?" Kosi wants to finally have a company since she has been running her company online for a while. I nod, and we both work online.
In the evening
My siblings, Alex, Alex's siblings and I are in his parent's house.
I clear my throat, and say, "Alexander and I have decided to go through with the marriage."
My brothers all protest, but I pay no heed, and I continue, "We are aware we will be getting engaged soon, and we are ready for that as well as marriage."
I grit my teeth and tighten my fists. I notice that his eyes go to them, and loosen them. Our parents smile, and my mum says, "Don't worry, you both won't regret our choice. The thing is, your engagement is in the next two weeks."
My eyes twitch, and Nico my oldest brother stands up, and says, "What the fuck?! At least let them get used to the thought of spending their lives together." My mum replies, "They've known each other their entire lives. What more time do they need?"
Alexander stays quiet trying to rein his anger in.
His father then says, "Well, we wanted to tell you that you will be getting married in two months."
That definitely makes Alexander stand up in full rage, "No. If we are agreeing to this, then we will be getting married in six months."
My father says, "Nah. That's too far away. We can agree to 2 and a half."
I roll my eyes, and say, "Four months, or nothing. Is there any other thing we need to know?"
His mom says, "Yes. You both must not NOT see each other for over three days. Get to know each other before your marriage. Even though you both have known each other majority of your lives, I understand wanting to get to know each other on a romantic level. Although, we once thought you both were doing that years ago."
My eyes widen, and I feel a blush creeping in when I feel the stares of his sisters and my brothers. I avoid eye contact with them, and I just know that his mum has planted the pictures in their heads, and my brothers are not having it.
"Any other thing we need to know about?" Alexander asks angrily.
The parents say nothing, and we all go home.
