Chương 56: ## Chapter 56 : Chiyama

Kane's calm yet ruthlessly efficient fighting style had reached a point where Chiyama could no longer rely on his status as a Gym Leader and kane as his student. He had to abandon any thoughts of holding back and instead face the young boy in a full-on confrontation. Despite Kane being only seven years old, he was still Chiyama's disciple, and his prowess in battle demanded serious recognition.

"Mismagius, use Magical Leaf!" Chiyama commanded, his voice resonating with authority as he gave the order.

Faced with the oncoming Sludge Bomb attack, Mismagius had no choice but to halt its use of Perish Song. The energy within the gleaming gem on Mismagiu's chest surged intensely, causing a radiant green light to burst forth. In a matter of moments, the light gathered, swirling as it formed into sharp, vibrant leaves that glowed with magical energy. The leaves spun in a dazzling vortex, shattering the Sludge Bomb effortlessly before continuing their rapid trajectory towards Kane's Gastly.

Kane, observing the swirling Magical Leaves moving toward Gastly with alarming precision, he knew that this was a sign that Chiyama was taking the battle seriously now. Kane's defeat was inevitable if things continued like this. The Magical Leaf technique, especially when executed by a Pokémon like Mismagius, had the ability to home in on its target, meaning Gastly couldn't dodge the attack no matter what. The only viable option was for Gastly to stand its ground and attempt to resist the move with a powerful counterattack. Unfortunately, with Gastly's current level of strength, successfully repelling the Magical Leaf attack was highly unlikely.

"use Shadow Ball continuously," Kane's voice was firm but calm, directing his Pokémon to keep fighting with all its strength despite the imminent outcome.

Even though the outcome of the battle was already clear in Kane's mind, that didn't mean he was going to back down. Gastly pushed itself to the limit, continuously firing Shadow Ball after Shadow Ball while retreating, trying desperately to offset the relentless advance of the Magical Leaves.

"use Phantom Force Mismagius," Chiyama ordered, his voice low and composed as his eyes tracked every movement on the battlefield.

Mismagius immediately vanished from sight, slipping into another dimension with eerie ease. In that moment, Kane felt a familiar surge of frustration. There was no way to track a Pokémon hidden within another dimension. Worse yet, Gastly was still struggling to fend off the barrage of Magical Leaves and couldn't possibly divert its attention to prepare for the incoming sneak attack.

Chiyama stood back, watching the battle with a composed expression. He didn't rush to finish the match. He wanted to observe more of Kane's tactics, to see if his young disciple could pull off anything surprising. If he simply crushed Kane with sheer power, the battle wouldn't serve its purpose. Chiyama's goal wasn't just to win; it was to test and push Kane to his limits, nurturing the boy's potential through genuine battle experience.

After firing more than ten consecutive Shadow Balls, Gastly finally managed to neutralize the last of the Magical Leaves. By this point, it was visibly tired, its strength drained from the relentless barrage of shadow balls.

Kane, however, had noticed something peculiar—Mismagius hadn't reappeared yet and finished the tired gastly off. A faint smirk formed on his face as realization struck him. Chiyama was testing him, waiting to see how he would handle the pressure he wasn't fighting to win. He needed to think fast.

"gastly use Shadow Hypnosis," Kane commanded sharply, his mind working quickly.

In a previous battle on the fifth floor of Bell Tower, Kane had used Dark Pulse to fend off a Shuppet's attacks. But this situation was different. The gap in strength between his Gastly and Chiyama's Mismagius was far too large. Not only that, but Mismagiu's defensive capabilities were remarkable. Even if he used Dark Pulse, it wouldn't cause enough damage to be effective.

Shadow Hypnosis, however, worked differently. Unlike other moves, it ignored the level difference between opponents. As long as the hypnotic waves affected the opponent's eyes, they would inevitably fall into a deep sleep. This was Kane's opportunity to turn the tide of battle.

The key was simple: if Mismagius reappeared from the dimension, it would be immediately exposed to the hypnotic waves that surrounded the battlefield. Kane's plan was to force Mismagius out of hiding and into the range of Hypnosis.

The move, "Shadow Hypnosis," was the first technique Kane had trained extensively with Gastly after they started working together. By now, Gastly had mastered the skill to near perfection.

In an instant, an eerie shadow enveloped Gastly's form, causing it to disappear into the illusion, blending seamlessly with the darkness. Waves of hypnotic energy began to radiate outwards in ripples, moving through the shadows like a ghostly tide. The light waves danced across the battlefield, ready to strike anything that appeared within their range.

Chiyama's eyes widened in surprise, unable to hide his admiration for Kane's quick thinking and ingenuity. The boy had shown a remarkable ability to strategize, far beyond what anyone would expect from a seven-year-old.

"Kane, you never cease to amaze me," Chiyama called out, his voice carrying a note of genuine pride. "Your talent in battle is exceptional. You will undoubtedly surpass me one day. But as your teacher, I still have much to teach you. Mismagius, it's time to finish this!"

With Qianshan's command, countless blue flames suddenly erupted from the dimensional rift where Mismagius had been hiding. The flames tore through the air with incredible speed, their intense heat disintegrating the energy of Gastly's Hypnosis. The ghostly blue fire surrounded Gastly, leaving it no escape. Although Gastly desperately tried to defend itself with Night shade, the flames engulfed it within seconds, overwhelming its defenses completely.

Kane remained calm as he withdrew Gastly back into its Pokéball. Despite the defeat, he couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for Chiyama's Mismagius. In his previous life, Mismagius had been a legendary figure, a Pokémon that had once shone brightly in the Pokémon League. Sadly, Kane had also heard that Mismagius had perished while heroically protecting Chiyama. It was a tragic end for such a powerful and loyal companion.

The move Chiyama had just used was one of the most dangerous moves in the Ghost-Type Training Manual compiled by the fourth generation of the Chiyama family. It was called Phantom Flame.

This technique was an advanced move that combined Phantom Force with double team and mystical fire. Mismagius would hide in another dimension using Phantom Force, while creating clones of itself using double team to encircle it's opponent. The flames would then be launched directly from every single Mismagius, giving the sensation of being surrounded and burned by fire that seemingly appeared from nowhere. The move was disorienting and difficult to counter, making it incredibly dangerous in battle. Only techniques like Protect or powerful energy barriers could provide any hope of defense.

However, mastering such a technique required immense skill. A Pokémon couldn't stay in the dimensional space for too long, as prolonged exposure to that mysterious realm could result in them being lost forever. On top of that, using double team to make clones and launching powerful flames while inside the dimension placed an extraordinary mental and physical strain on the Pokémon.

Chiyama recalled his Mismagius back into its Pokéball, turning his gaze toward Kane. "You've done well today. Continue to train hard here at Ecruteak Gym," he said with a smile. "In time, I'll teach you how to master techniques like the one you saw today."

Kane simply nodded, acknowledging the words with a slight lift of his eyelids. His journey was far from over, and he knew that.

Chiyama placed a firm hand on Kane's shoulder, a gesture of encouragement. "The Elite Four member, Pryce, is arriving tomorrow. He might conduct an assessment of the gym's trainees. You and Komatsu will likely be tested after the assessment of the gym is done. I'm proud that Ecruteak Gym has talented individuals like you. Get some rest in the meantime."

For the remainder of the day, Kane's Ditto and Gastly took turns battling against Chiyama in training matches. However, no matter how hard Kane fought, the gap in power was too significant, and he couldn't manage to gain the upper hand against Chiyama's overwhelming strength.

As evening approached, Kane headed to the Pokémon Center, where Ditto and Gastly were treated and fully healed. Being a gym trainee now meant that his recovery treatments were covered by the gym, which was a small but much-needed relief for Kane's finances.

Once both Pokémon were restored, Kane turned to Ditto and Gastly with a serious expression. They had to grasp the reality of the difference in strength from today's battles.

"You both understand the gap in power, don't you?" Kane said sternly, his eyes hard as he spoke.

Ditto and Gastly both lowered their heads in acknowledgment, clearly understanding how far they still had to go.

Kane's voice softened slightly as he added, "This is not even half the strength of a gym leader. Above that, there are the Elite Four, Champions, and those even stronger. We still have a long way to go."

That was all he needed to say. The message was clear.

Ditto reverted to its wristband form, wrapping securely around Kane's wrist, while Gastly quietly returned to its Pokéball.

Kane had one more task for the night—he needed to make a trip to the black market. With 24,500 poke dollars in hand, he hoped to find a new Poison-type Pokémon to improve his team. Activating the Poison Core of gastly had consumed the natural toxins of two swalots. Now, in order to stimulate Gastly's evolution, more powerful toxins were needed, and that meant more money would have to be spent.

As Kane made his way through the bustling black market, his sharp eyes scanned the various stalls and vendors, all offering different Pokémon and items. This time, however, there were no Weezings or Muk for sale, Pokémon that Kane had been hoping to see. Instead, he spotted an Ariados—a large, intimidating spider-like Pokémon known for its Poison-type abilities.

Kane hesitated for a moment, feeling a strange tug at his heart. Ariados reminded him of something from his previous life, a memory he had long since buried. Despite his hardened nature and his willingness to make difficult decisions, something about this particular Pokémon stirred an old feeling in him.

Without further hesitation, Kane turned his back on the Ariados and walked away, leaving it behind in the dust of the market.

Unfortunately, the rest of the black market didn't offer much in the way of options either. The only other Poison-type Pokémon he came across were a couple of Qwilfish—small, spiky creatures known for their weak Poison-type abilities. But at 8,000 poke dollars, they weren't worth the investment. Kane knew that the toxicity of these Pokémon would be insufficient to stimulate Gastly's evolution. Buying one would be a waste of both money and time.

With a frustrated sigh, Kane realized that Gastly's evolution would have to be delayed once again. There just weren't any suitable Poison-type Pokémon available in the market that could meet his needs.

He left the market with his mind already planning the next steps in his training. There was still much to be done, and with tomorrow's assessment looming, he needed to be as prepared as possible.
