Cole left the gym after his talk with Jayden, his mind buzzing with thoughts of what he had learned. The reality of his situation was beginning to sink in—he was playing a dangerous game, and the people watching him from the shadows weren't going to let him go without a fight. But if there was one thing Cole knew how to do, it was fight.
Walking back through the city streets, Cole's thoughts wandered to his friends. Lina, Ty, Zack—they had always stood by him, even when things got tough. But this wasn't just a fight in the ring. This was something darker, something that could affect all of them. And as much as they had his back, Cole wasn't sure he wanted to drag them into this mess.
As he rounded a corner, heading toward the diner where he and his friends often met, Cole spotted Lina waiting outside. She was leaning against the brick wall, her arms crossed and a thoughtful look on her face. When she saw him approaching, she straightened up and gave him a small smile.
"Hey," Lina said softly as he approached. "You okay?"
Cole shrugged, his hands in his pockets. "As okay as I can be, I guess."
Lina studied him for a moment, her eyes searching his face. "You've been distant lately. What's going on?"
Cole hesitated, not wanting to burden her with the weight of everything that had been happening. But he knew he couldn't hide it from her forever. Lina had always been able to read him like an open book, and right now, she could see that something was wrong.
"It's those guys," Cole finally said, leaning against the wall next to her. "The ones Jayden warned me about. They've been following me, watching me. I don't know what they want, but I can feel them getting closer."
Lina's expression hardened, concern flashing in her eyes. "And you're sure they're from the underground?"
Cole nodded. "Yeah. Jayden confirmed it. They want to pull me back in, and they're not going to take no for an answer."
Lina was quiet for a moment, her brow furrowed in thought. "So what are you going to do?"
"I don't know," Cole admitted, his voice heavy with frustration. "I can't let them control me, but fighting them off isn't going to be easy. They have resources, power… they play dirty."
Lina stepped closer, placing a hand on his arm. "You don't have to do this alone, Cole. We're all here for you. You know that, right?"
Cole looked down at her, feeling a flicker of warmth in his chest. "Yeah, I know. But I don't want to get you guys involved. This isn't your fight."
"Maybe not," Lina said, her voice firm, "but we're in this together. We've always been in this together. And whatever comes next, we'll face it head-on."
Cole smiled slightly, the tension in his chest easing just a little. Lina had always been the one to remind him that he didn't have to carry everything on his own. She was right—they were a team, and together, they were stronger.
"Thanks, Lina," Cole said quietly.
She smiled back at him, her eyes soft. "Come on, let's go inside. Ty and Zack are waiting for us."
