Chương 69: Crashing into Secrets

The moment they hit the ice, Clark realized he had made another mistake.

There was no time to stop, so he quickly wrapped Soren tightly in his arms, using his body and biofield to shield him completely from any harm.

Even though Clark had slowed down and stopped flying just in time, the powerful momentum still carried them deep into the glacier, almost creating a huge crack that could have let seawater flood in.

Clark landed hard on a solid surface, leaving a deep crater beneath them.

Soren lay on top of him, speechless, his face completely blank.

His fist clenched in frustration.

He sat up and glaring down at Clark.

Considering how cold it was, Clark turned his head and used his heat vision to melt some of the ice layers around them.

The steam created a warm, humid air to keep Soren comfortable.

Only then did he look back at Soren.

Clark felt embarrassed, and it seemed like there was a hint of contempt in Soren's eyes.

His gaze darted away, feeling the heat rising to his face, turning it bright red, "Uh..."

Soren sat on top of him.

He staring at him with his wide watery eyes under the midnight sun's glow, his lips trembling, and his ears burning bright red.

He was both ashamed and angry from the little accident earlier and at the same time he was extremely angry and scared from the terrifying flight.

The mixture of these two strong emotions left him speechless, unsure of what words to use or how to form a sentence.

Clark finally decided to face reality.

He sat up and helped the clearly shaken Soren to his feet, "Soren, let me explain..."

Soren shot back angrily, "Explain why you decided to take me on a world tour?"

Clark, looking like a scolded golden retriever, lowered his head in shame.

"I told you not to drink so much," Soren fumed, starting to list his complaints. "You didn't listen to me at all! I told you to go back, but instead, you flew me halfway across the world!"

Clark mumbled, looking defeated, "I just... I just wanted to show you that... I'm that 'flying guy'..."

"That doesn't mean you had to take me all the way to the North Pole."

"I... I wanted to show you my, uh, my base..." Clark muttered.

"Your <<Fortress of Solitude>>?" Soren asked, still upset.

"My what?" Clark looked up, confused.

The base Clark was talking about was something he had built not long ago.

A few years back, just before starting college, Jonathan Kent had given Clark the spaceship that had brought him to Earth, which they'd kept hidden in their barn for years.

Inside the ship was a strange, four-sided pyramid made of a special metal, covered with unfamiliar engravings.

The mysterious pyramid-shaped object puzzled Clark for a long time.

He didn't know what it was for, but he had a feeling that it was somehow connected to his origins.

A few months ago, it suddenly lit up in his hands.

A voice came from it, guiding him to the North Pole.

Following the voice, he placed the object into the glacier.

Immediately, a massive structure made of interlocking ice crystals rose from the glacier with a rumbling sound.

When Clark entered, he saw a hologram of his biological father.

It turned out that the pyramid contained all of Krypton's knowledge and technology.

Before Krypton was destroyed, Clark's father, Jor-El, stored the planet's history and his own AI consciousness in the device, waiting for the day when Clark would unlock it and inherit the last legacy of Krypton.

Clark spent a lot of time alone in the North Pole.

After work, he'd fly straight here and, with the AI of his father as his guide, he quickly absorbed all of Krypton's knowledge.

Krypton was far more advanced than Earth.

Using what he learned, Clark created many high-tech devices that Earthlings couldn't even imagine.

He stored them all in this massive structure.

He even designed a defense system that could reflect electromagnetic waves, making the building invisible to human eyes.

Not even the most advanced scientific tools could detect it.

This place was meant to be his only base and his final secret hideout.

But he wanted to share its existence with Soren.

He didn't want to hide his secrets from Soren anymore.

He didn't want anything to come between them.

They were supposed to be friends who told each other everything.

Clark trusted Soren more than he trusted himself.

He knew Soren would keep his secrets safe and would never betray him.

The more time and effort Clark put into this base, the more he wanted to show it to Soren.

Soren glanced at him. "So, does your 'base' have a name?"

"I haven't named it yet," Clark admitted.

Soren raised an eyebrow, surprised. "I thought you'd call it <Fortress of Solitude>> or something."

Clark's eyes lit up, suddenly excited, "Fortress of Solitude! I like that! Let's call it that. Come on, I'll show you—"

Soren immediately stepped back, eyeing him cautiously, "Wait, Clark. Tell me—are you sober now?"

Clark's face flushed red again.

He awkwardly scratched the back of his head, about to admit that he wasn't sure if he was completely sober when Soren's gaze shifted down to the ice beneath their feet.

Under the thin layer of ice, they could see a large metal wing, painted with red, white, and blue.

The white letters "USA" stood out clearly against the red and blue lines.

"What is this?" Soren exclaimed.

He crouched down and, despite the cold, he wiped the ice with his hands, trying to get a better look.

Clark used his X-ray vision to scan the area and found it strange as well, "...It looks like a plane."

They were standing inside a triangular space formed by the broken wing and body of a crashed plane!

Clark looked around, scanning the entire space, and then frowned, "Soren, step back a little."
