Chương 71: Hikigaya, Please Use 20,000 Points to Buy This Game Console!

"Horikita-san, how can you say that this is pointless?"

Despite being on the verge of tears from the scathing remarks of the dragon-level cynic, Horikita Suzune, Hirata Yousuke managed to regain his composure swiftly. With a serious expression, he responded, "You heard what Teacher Chabashira said. I believe this is the first trial for our Class D. So—"

"I already said no," Horikita Suzune cut him off with an icy, even cruel tone, showing no regard for Hirata's feelings.

"I see… Sorry. If you change your mind, I hope you'll come."

Realizing he had hit a dead end, Hirata Yousuke understood that he couldn't change Horikita's mind and reluctantly gave up on the invitation.

Horikita, meanwhile, had turned her attention away from him.

"Hikigaya-kun, what do you think?" Hirata Yousuke suddenly glanced at Hikigaya as he was about to leave.

"What—what do you mean?"

Hikigaya was caught off guard, having not expected to be suddenly asked for his opinion.

"Horikita-san says our actions are meaningless. What do you think, Hikigaya-kun? Shouldn't we be uniting as a class right now?"

Hirata's perspective was straightforward and reasonable. Given the looming class conflicts and the potential for worse troubles ahead, Class D should indeed be coming together, pooling their ideas and resources.

Naturally, Hikigaya couldn't outright dismiss such a 'correct' notion.

However, 'correct' doesn't always equate to the right course of action.

Rather than needing unity, Class D seemed to be incapable of it. At least with Hirata Yousuke's approach, it was clear that bringing everyone together was an impossible task.

People like Sudou Ken and Horikita Suzune, who distanced themselves from the class, were just the beginning. The members of Class D each had their agendas and were unlikely to heed his call for unity.

Unless Class D found a leader with more influence than Hirata...

"I think your idea is correct," Hikigaya conceded, even though he mentally disagreed.

"Oh? Then would you be willing to attend the discussion meeting, Hikigaya-kun?"

"What?"

Hirata Yousuke seemed oblivious to Hikigaya's confusion and continued, "Although Horikita-san has dismissed the meeting's significance, I still believe it holds value, just like you do. I'm going to make an effort to prove that!"

With that, Hirata left, leaving Hikigaya bewildered and disoriented in the aftermath.

So, I was just trying to give you a face, not agreeing to anything, alright?

Watching Hirata leave to persuade other students to join the discussion, Hikigaya couldn't help but display a complex expression.

"I thought you'd refuse this sort of thing," Horikita Suzune said with a hint of mockery in her tone, "It must be quite entertaining for you to participate in such collective activities."

"Not at all. I just didn't want to embarrass him. I didn't expect Hirata to react so strongly," Hikigaya sighed. "And Horikita, you were quite decisive in your refusal. Aren't you also worried about Class D's situation?"

"I am concerned, but I don't believe Hirata Yousuke's suggestion will be effective," Horikita Suzune said, nodding with detachment. "This isn't something that can be solved through simple discussion. A gathering of students with poor ideas will only add to the chaos and change nothing. Besides, I can't accept the fact that I'm in Class D!"

"Is that so?"

Hikigaya could understand Horikita Suzune's dissatisfaction with being in Class D, but he still couldn't grasp the full extent of her reasons.

He was still missing a crucial piece to fully understand Horikita Suzune.

After school, the so-called class discussion meeting organized by Hirata Yousuke commenced.

Under his influence, nearly half the class stayed behind, and Hikigaya, unable to refuse, found himself reluctantly participating.

The development of the meeting proved to be as dull as Hikigaya had anticipated.

There's a saying in China, "Three cobblers with their wits combined surpass Zhuge Liang."

When thirty or forty cobblers from Class D gathered, the only outcome was a great deal of noise pollution and a significant increase in the carbon dioxide levels on Earth.

The students mostly sat around making self-serving demands, hoping the class would meet their desires. No meaningful suggestions were made.

Halfway through, Hikigaya was already looking for an opportunity to escape. He even thought that being scolded by Horikita would be more enjoyable than staying there.

Bored out of his mind, Hikigaya habitually propped his head up with his hand and observed the other class members.

Among the boys, Sudou, having fallen out with Hirata, was absent.

Ike and Yamauchi became the focus of attention.

Desperate for points, they displayed their lowest behavior, begging and pleading for anyone to lend them points.

"Ayanokouji, please buy this game console for 20,000 points," Yamauchi said with a look of desperation, presenting his precious PS game console to Ayanokouji.

"If you sell it to me, who will I play with?"

"How would I know? It's a special offer, so it's a great deal."

"I'd buy it if it were 1,000 points." [T/N: My guy knows how to bargain!]

"Ayanokouji! You're my only hope!"

"Why only me… I'm powerless to help."

Yamauchi persistently hounded Ayanokouji, but the latter remained unmoved. Seeing he couldn't get any help from Ayanokouji, Yamauchi had to approach other classmates.

However, with everyone aware of Class D's current state, no one was willing to be generous at this time, and he faced repeated rejections.

Eventually, Yamauchi even approached Hikigaya, whining and acting like an old friend, "Hikigaya, I have a very interesting game console here. Do you want to buy it? Now it's only 22,000 points!"

Seeing the game console Yamauchi presented, Hikigaya couldn't help but laugh.

Previously, during the swimming class, Hikigaya had publicly exposed Yamauchi's false rumors about Sakura, leading to Yamauchi harboring a grudge and not speaking to him for over half a month.

Now, seeing Yamauchi, desperate and cornered, trying to sell him something, Hikigaya was genuinely taken aback.

And why was it 2,000 points more expensive than before?

Do I look like such a sucker?

"I'm not really into games."

Although Hikigaya had a physiological aversion to Yamauchi, his response was sincere.

He had no interest in games; while he was aware of famous titles, he barely engaged with games himself.

The reason was simple: he was not good at them.

The only games he could play were simple ones like Monopoly...

"You can try even if you don't like games. This is a special offer. If you go to a store, the price would be over 30,000 points!"

"No, the issue is that I don't want to buy it in the first place. No matter how cheap, it doesn't matter to me. Now get lost."

Though Hikigaya might seem inconspicuous most of the time, this didn't mean he had a weak character.

In reality, when trouble arose, he could display a coldness far beyond the norm.

After all, Hikigaya Hachiman was a lone wolf with no weaknesses to exploit, making him impervious to coercion.

In a sense, he was as invincible as Jotaro Kujo.
