Chương 59: A Game of Endurance

Gild restrained his urge to throw insults into the air, completely ignoring his embarrassment as he said in an attention-grabbing tone, "How about we keep it simple and just say if the amount is low or high?"

Jun nodded and said, "Let's go! Here are my hundred coins, and another hundred from my friend!"

'I don't have a hundred gold coins...' Trevor thought, forcing a bigger smile.

To be fair, those who participated in these types of games would first put their money aside, only then roll the dice. The number of dice used depended on the number of people involved. If seven people were playing, seven dice would be used. If six, then six dice.

At the moment, Jun, Gild, Trevor, and some of Gild's friends were participating in the bet. The others in this private room were either guards or players who didn't have the right to take part in this kind of game.

Jun's mischievous thoughts began to stir. After all, these people initially wanted to take all his money through this game, so he would do the same, like any good gambler. In situations like this, why not take advantage and help the others? "In times like these, others can join us from behind the game table."

"What does playing behind the table mean?" Trevor asked, eyeing the others suspiciously.

"The so-called playing behind the table in these types of games is making an external bet with the house. This means that while you're not directly participating in the game, you can still wager money. For instance, you could bet five gold coins that I will win. If I lose, then those who bet on me will lose with me, and you'll have lost your five coins. That way, both sides lose. But if I win, then you win too, along with interest—you'll get ten gold coins." Jun explained this in detail so Trevor could understand, which made the others glance at the betting manager.

"Oh, of course, we have this method implemented in our games! Please, those who wish to bet, leave your names on this sheet and the amount you're wagering," said the manager, beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead. This situation had long spiraled out of his control.

"All right!"

Gild, who had killed Jun in his mind countless times already, smirked under a hidden smile: Keep laughing; soon, you'll be crying!

The game proceeded in turns, with each participant rolling their dice one by one. Jun rolled and got only fifteen points out of twenty-four—the maximum possible with four dice—a fairly average result.

Meanwhile, Gild's friend scored sixteen points, one point above Trevor, marking the highest score so far across three rounds.

Seeing this, Gild's face broke into a triumphant grin. As long as his friend won this round, they would rake in twenty thousand coins. They had already planned to ensure that Jun would leave this place with nothing, not even his clothes! Once he lost to the point of desperation, they would seize the opportunity to humiliate him as he had done to them.

"A real shame, but you certainly have good luck," Trevor said, grabbing the four dice in his hand. However, deep down, he was slightly annoyed, knowing this game had a trick to get higher scores if played correctly. The dice also felt heavier than usual.

Jun noticed it too. He was well aware of how people could cheat in this kind of situation, but in this era, it was rare for these methods to be in use.

The substance added to increase the dice's weight definitely wasn't lead; that would make it obvious the dice were tampered with to favor one side. However, the weight distribution was uniform, meaning it had to be a different kind of metal. Only those familiar with the dice could control the sum they desired. Even if an average person realized something was off, they wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

'If they want to beat Trevor in this dice game, they better be more than just good...' Jun knew Trevor could win using special tricks, just like these people did with regular gamblers.

Jun's eyes closed as he took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. With a flick of his wrist, he released the dice from the metal cup, causing them to crash onto the table. At the same time, Jun's left hand, resting on the table, emitted a faint, imperceptible vibration that was just strong enough to subtly alter the path of the dice without anyone noticing.

Everyone held their breath as they watched the dice roll across the table.

The four dice rolled for a moment before finally coming to a stop.

"This... How is this possible?" Gild exclaimed, his face pale with disbelief as he stared at the result.

Gild's group, along with those who had bet on them to win, looked visibly disappointed. Meanwhile, Trevor and Jun were the only ones celebrating their crushing victory, while Chung cried tears of joy for having bet his life savings on Jun.

The dice results? Six on the first die, four, five, and two on the others! Jun's total was just one point higher than Gild's friend's score.

Gild's group had placed their hopes on their expert friend's throw, but seeing him lose so miserably, they glared at Jun with venomous expressions. To them, this bastard, blessed by some god's luck, had just pulled off the impossible. They cursed under their breath.

Jun smirked arrogantly as Trevor, carried away by the excitement, hugged him. Jun rubbed his hand and said, "Haha! That risky bet turned out to be a blessing for our throw. Since we're a team, I'm honored he took the initiative to bet on me. And now, since I've won, it's time for you to bleed!"

With that, he picked up a tray holding the twenty thousand coins they had won earlier and said, "Come on, pay up what you've lost—every single coin!"

"Yeah, pay up! Not a single coin short!" Trevor communicated silently with Jun through just their glances, perfectly playing their roles to win the bet.
