At that point, Bobby's strengths were in mental energy, speed, and close combat, thanks to the Astral Fan. The Flying Iris Shield was the perfect defense; all he needed was a powerful long-range weapon. Bobby greatly valued long-range weapons that could work in tandem with his eye in life-and-death battles. With an unfamiliar environment, a powerful long-range weapon was a necessity.
