Unless commanded by the emperor, one should not arbitrarily use their power to kill; if possible, spare lives and secure surrenders. Do not punish those who have not committed a crime without solid evidence. As the leader of the Cavalry, prioritize the safety of the cavalry and the empire above personal matters. That was his guiding principle.
Those who possessed power far greater than others could, with a mere flick of their finger, cause chaos in people's lives. Therefore, they should not act recklessly without clear guidelines.
Killing and defeating others might be easy, but living that way would soon lead to problems in areas where power alone couldn't provide solutions.
Make decisions with greater rationality than anyone else, but when the use of power becomes necessary, wield it with overwhelming force.
The one who had thoroughly ingrained this fact in Yuder's mind was Kishiar La Orr, who, at that moment, was likely enjoying a drink with General Gino.
'...I could easily kill Sunz now. But would that truly change the future, leading to the creation of a special force?'
Yuder took a deep breath and thought carefully.
'If I kill Sunz, someone else will take his place. But if I spare him, I can understand the movements of talented individuals in the army through him. When the special force forms in the future, I can establish stronger connections.'
It made more sense to spare him and build an alliance. After repeating this reasoning several times, the internal conflict within Yuder finally subsided, and his mind calmed. He glanced around with a more relaxed expression.
"It's nothing. I was just surprised by your vision ability. It's rare, something we don't have in our Cavalry."
"Is that so?" Sunz tilted his head, smiling in relief.
"If there are other talented individuals here besides yourself, could I meet them?"
"It's not possible to introduce everyone. Some are on duty..."
"Just the ones resting in the village would be fine. It's only personal curiosity."
Yuder smiled to reassure him. Sunz nodded without much suspicion.
"No problem. After guiding you to your quarters, my task will be done. You'll have free time after that. If you'd like to meet other Awakeners in our army, let's go together once you've unpacked."
"Understood."
Kishiar was handling the retrieval of the Red Stone, so there was nothing Yuder needed to worry about there. It was a stroke of luck that he found an unexpected connection here, which kept boredom at bay.
Ignoring the puzzled glances from others, Yuder followed Sunz and arrived at their quarters.
"This is where you'll be staying. Once you've unpacked, feel free to explore."
There were two buildings for accommodation—one for the Peletta Knights and another for the Cavalry. However, since the buildings were small with only two rooms, they needed to divide the members before settling in.
"Are there any second-gender Awakeners here?" Hinn stepped forward, scanning the rest of the group.
"Finn and I are both non-manifested Awakeners."
"I am also non-manifested," Kanna replied, glancing toward Yuder, who nodded to confirm he was the same. This left only Gakane. He scratched his head, looking somewhat uneasy under their gaze.
"I'm... an alpha Awakener."
"Really? Then we can divide by gender. Kanna and I will take one room. Is that alright?"
Without waiting for a reply, Hinn led Kanna into the room, leaving the other for the three men.
'So Gakane is an alpha Awakener,' Yuder thought, surprised as he entered the room. He had assumed Gakane was also non-manifested, as he had never mentioned his second gender before. It was good to know this now.
'It's fortunate to learn this sooner rather than later...'
Yuder hadn't forgotten the painful memories of manifesting as an omega. It was one of the most intense experiences of his life, something impossible to forget.
While the process of manifesting a second gender was bearable, but painful. it was critical not to have an Awakener of the opposite second gender nearby during the manifestation.
In the past, this wasn't widely understood, and Awakeners rarely gathered, so it wasn't an issue. But with the formation of the Cavalry, a large group of Awakeners working closely together changed everything.
At the time, those who manifested their second gender typically did so soon after awakening their abilities. However, issues arose for those whose second gender manifested much later.
Yuder was one such Awakener who had experienced this unexpectedly after joining the Cavalry. Thus, he knew all too well the complications that could arise.
'...I need to inform Kishiar about this, along with the other Awakeners in the military.'
So far, no members had suffered from these issues, but it was wise to prepare for potential problems in the future.
If Kishiar asked where he had learned this information, Yuder would have to evade the question. Even if it raised suspicions, it was vital to share it.
As Yuder pondered this, he put his bag down. Finn left the room to search for the bathroom.
After removing his uniform coat and lying down on the bed, Gakane sighed deeply and spoke up.
"Yuder, why are you suddenly interested in visiting the other Awakeners in the army?"
"Just curiosity," Yuder replied.
"But you never paid much attention to our peers in the Cavalry."
Yuder let out a hollow laugh and looked down at Gakane. "Well, I already know you all well. But they're different."
"Different how?"
"Think about it. Like us, there are Awakeners in the army with abilities yet to be fully understood."
At Yuder's words, Gakane nodded with a naive expression, like a boy grasping a new idea.
"So what? There are probably people with abilities who didn't choose to apply to the Cavalry."
"That's true, but this is the military. It's different."
In places like the Pearl Tower, court mages, or even among the Imperial Knights, there were likely Awakeners who had yet to reveal themselves. However, their numbers were limited compared to the army. The Southern Army, under General Gino, had a vast number of soldiers.
Even if only a fraction were Awakeners, their numbers could rival the Cavalry.
"But if the Cavalry fully asserts its power, how long do you think those in the army can continue to live as they do now?"
"Are you suggesting that the higher-ups in the army might attempt to create a second Cavalry?"
Although he did not elaborate, Gakane's eyes flickered with realization, as if he had grasped the hint.
"What would you do?"
"If it were me... I might entertain such a thought," Yuder admitted
Gakane's expression shifted from disbelief to a thoughtful realization. Rising from his seat, he looked at Yuder with admiration. "So, you're trying to gather as much information as possible. That's impressive. I never even considered it."
Gakane Bolunwald, too, would have naturally considered this if he had weathered all the storms at the top of the massive organization known as the Cavalry for nearly ten years.
'Besides, even if he were in my position, he might not have considered murder as an option.'
Gakane had undeniable talent. With his relentless personality, good looks, and lineage, he could have been a formidable leader. If he were still alive, Kishiar might have chosen him as his successor. While Yuder couldn't say what Gakane himself would have thought, he respected his abilities deeply.
He had never thought he would agree with those who regretted the early death of such a promising talent. Yuder gave a bitter inward smile and bowed his head.
"I'm not trying to do anything that grand."
"Were you two friends before joining the Cavalry?" Finn Eldore, who had just returned, interrupted with a question. Gakane had apparently talked extensively with the Eldore siblings on the way, but Yuder had rarely had personal conversations with them.
"We stayed at the same place before the test. Yuder helped me out."
"Is that how you met Kanna too?"
"Well, that's..."
"I'll head out now."
Yuder changed into his usual civilian attire, having removed his uniform coat. As he opened the door to leave, Gakane looked at him with concern.
"Even with Sunz with you, be careful, Yuder. We leave early tomorrow, so try to come back as soon as you can."
"Wow. You sound like a parent."
"That's not what I..."
As he listened to the exchange between Finn and Gakane, Yuder chuckled and closed the door behind him.
