Chương 18: Being born again

Inside the police station, in one of the dimly lit offices, sat Kang Yu, a woman with short blonde hair and deep blue eyes. She was dressed in a police uniform that reflected her strong aura, focusing on the papers in her hands. Days passed in a monotonous rhythm, filled with work and busyness, but this day was unexpectedly different.
As she read those papers, a sudden headache stormed through her head. She placed her hand on her temple, desperately trying to ease the rising pain.
"Ugh, not today... not now..."
But the pain didn't respond to her pleas. Instead, it escalated like an unstoppable current, as if something inside her was trying to break free. Suddenly, a wave of sharp pain hit her, as if her head was burning from the inside. She clutched her head with both hands, her teeth sinking into her lips to stifle the scream that was about to erupt.
"Ahh... what's happening... aahhh..."
The scream escaped her, but it was muffled, filled with pain and fear. And then she felt as if the world around her was collapsing, and all she could do was try to hold on. But in the end, her body couldn't withstand the intense pain, and she collapsed onto her desk, unconscious, as if the night had drawn its curtain over her consciousness.
Half an hour later, Kang Yu slowly opened her eyes, finding herself still in her office. But the pain hadn't entirely disappeared; it was like a heavy shadow pressing on her chest. Burning tears streamed from her blue eyes as she grasped what had happened.
She looked around with eyes full of despair, then picked up her phone with a trembling hand. When she saw the date on the screen: "2020/11/23," she felt her heart nearly stop. Her hand trembled violently, and the tears flowed even more. She whispered in a hoarse, shaky voice,
"I... I've been reborn... does this mean Alex is still alive?"
Immediately afterward, she rushed out of her office, her tears not stopping, in a state of panic and confusion. Everyone who saw her was shocked; they had never seen Kang Yu like this before.
She got into her car and sped off towards Alex's villa. The closer she got, the heavier her heart felt. But when she arrived at the site, she was met with another shock.
The land that once held the villa was now just a flat area of rubble. For a moment, she thought she had mistaken the place, but the sight of the rose garden confirmed she was in the right location.
Overwhelmed with confusion and a lump in her throat, she approached a passerby and asked in a trembling voice, "Where is the villa that was here?" The man replied calmly, "Oh, a few days ago, some workers came and demolished the place."
Those words hit her like a lightning bolt. How could this be true? She felt like everything around her was collapsing, and the only hope she had clung to had vanished. She returned to her car, tears still streaming, whispering through her trembling lips, "Please, let nothing happen to you, Alex."
Shun Company
A police car stopped in front of "Shun" Company, and a confident policewoman stepped out, heading towards the reception desk. She asked clearly, "Is Mr. Alex here?"
The receptionist replied in a neutral tone, "No, he's no longer here. Since his resignation, he hasn't appeared at the company."
Hearing this, Kang Yu was visibly shocked and shouted angrily, "Who is the owner of the company now?"
The receptionist quickly answered, "Miss Shun Zui."
Kang Yu couldn't hide her emotions, and her face turned red with anger. She said with intense emotion, "Is she here now?"
The receptionist answered, "Yes, she is."
Kang Yu quickly headed to Shun Zui's office, muttering with a voice full of hatred, "I'll kill you."
The receptionist noticed the confusion and anger on Kang Yu's face and started running after her, calling out in a nervous tone, "Ma'am, did you schedule an appointment?"
But Kang Yu ignored her and quickened her pace towards the office. The receptionist tried to catch up with her, shouting, "Ma'am, you can't barge into the president's office without an appointment!"
In the face of this escalating scene, the atmosphere was charged with tension and anger, reflecting the seriousness and danger surrounding the situation through both Kang Yu's actions and the receptionist's concern.
Shun Zui' Point of View
Three days had passed without hearing any news about Alex, and I was going crazy with his disappearance. I was trapped in a whirlwind of thoughts, searching for any clue that could lead me to him. Then, in a moment of reflection, someone burst into my office. I turned quickly, surprised to see a woman in a police uniform. I didn't need a moment to identify her; it was Kang Yu, from the Kang family, our childhood friend, Alex's and mine, and my old rival in love.
But Kang Yu's scream interrupted my thoughts, "Shun Zui, where is Alex?" I froze in place. My heart raced, and I found myself in a state of confusion and anxiety. Had she come to compete with me for Alex's love after his engagement to Han Shui was called off? Did she think she could come back now and claim Alex's love again?
I felt anger igniting within me, a mix of rage and madness. How dare she return after abandoning him? That was enough to stir all my suppressed emotions. I pulled my gun from the desk drawer and pointed it at Kang Yu's head with trembling hands, unable to control my feelings of absolute dominance and madness. I screamed at her, "You bitch, who do you think you are to come back and look for Alex as if he's something you can easily have?"
My anger was escalating, and with it, I felt the obsession that consumed me for Alex. Any threat to my dreams and ambitions, I would eliminate.
Narrator's Point of View
Kang Yu also drew her gun and pointed it at Shun Zui's head, shouting, "No, you! What have you done to Alex? Where is he? I didn't find him at home, and how did you become the company's president?"
Shun Zui coldly replied, "That's none of your business, you filthy..."
At the same time, the receptionist entered the office, and when she saw the scene in front of her, she fainted immediately.
Kang Yu said, "Shun Zui, do you think I don't know about your obsession with Alex? Where have you hidden him? Or I'll blow your brains out."
Shun Zui was startled when she realized someone knew about her obsession with Alex and asked, "How did you find out about that?"
Inside Kang Yu's mind, her thoughts began to flow. "Because I've been reborn. In my previous life, after Alex's death, I made Shanghai bathe in blood, you and that crazy woman. But that's my secret; I won't tell anyone about my rebirth... I'll use it to make Alex fall in love with me. I don't know what will happen in the future, but it seems that Shun Zui hasn't been reborn."
Kang Yu said tensely, "That's none of your business. Now tell me where he is."
Shun Zui answered, "I don't know, he disappeared three days ago after renouncing his heir position and canceling his engagement with Han Shui."
Kang Yu was shocked to hear that Alex had canceled his engagement with Han Shui, feeling joy at first, but then worry crept in when she realized he was missing. She asked, "You haven't found him yet?"
Shun Zui replied, "No, the last time he was seen was in Beijing, and I'm still looking for him."
Kang Yu lowered her gun and said, "Alright."
Then she decided to leave the office, but before she left, she said, "Shun Zui, this time, I will win Alex's love."
Suddenly, a bullet whizzed past her head, and she heard Shun Zui's angry shout, "If you get close to Alex, I'll make you regret it."
Kang Yu realized that Shun Zui wouldn't hesitate to carry out her threat, but she defiantly said, "Do whatever you want, but I don't care at all."
After Kang Yu left, Shun Zui exploded in anger, starting to destroy the office and shatter the glass. After she calmed down, she smiled manically, "Alex is mine alone... no one else can touch him. Haha, yes, he's mine alone, he'll only love me and no one else~♡... Hehehe~♡..."
Then she heard heavy breathing behind her. She turned to find the secretary who had fainted earlier, saying, "Did you hear everything?"
The secretary replied, "I won't say anything, please."
Shun Zui immediately shot her in the head, saying, "Only the dead can keep secrets."
Then she took out her phone and called her servants, saying, "Come to my office and clean up the place."
The servant replied, "Yes, madam."
Kang Yu's Perspective
After I left, I pondered over what had just happened. Many things had changed, especially Alex's departure and the cancellation of his engagement to Han Shui... Could it be that my rebirth has caused some changes? Is this what they call the butterfly effect? But where did Alex disappear to? Could it be that he was reborn as well?
"No… no, if he was reborn, he wouldn't leave us alive."
Alright, I'll ask my father for help in finding him. I grabbed my phone and made a call. Moments later, a cheerful voice came through the phone:
