Wu Jinmai's POV
My room was already clean, and they fixed the things that were destroyed. I look at Uncle Liu.
"I want to speak with them. Make sure that no one will follow us, Eunuch Liu," I murmur. He bows his head.
"Understood, Your Highness," he replied.
I changed my clothes and wore too many hair ornaments. I missed my hair clasp and shorter hair. I walked out after fixing myself.
"You may all stay," Eunuch Liu says.
The maidservants bow their heads as we leave. We entered an alley. They twist the lamppost, and the ground opens a door.
We get inside. I knew Uncle Liu told the guards that we would imprison these bastards here. I knew he kept this assassination attempt a secret.
As we go deeper, I can hear murmurs. We reached the prison areas. We saw those three assassins tied to a piece of wood.
They glare at me. I notice the leather whip that they used to torture them. The soldiers bow their heads.
"Greetings, Your Highness," they greeted. I raise my hand and smile.
"Stop whipping them. It's futile anyway. They are trained assassins. They won't give in, no matter how you try," I remarked.
"Understood," one of the soldiers says.
They gave me a chair. I take my seat and cross my legs. I glared at them as well. They need to know who has the higher status among the four of us.
"It's either you spare me the details or I'll track all of your families and bury them alive with your… dead body. I am good at tracing people and peasants. Ah, no. Let me rephrase that. I will bury them alive while all of you are watching while on the brink of death!" I explained, acting like a psychopath. Well, Wu Jinmai is known for that anyway.
They turned pale and looked at me. I know they're trying to analyze if I'm bluffing or not. Well, I am not bluffing. I'm lying and using reverse psychology against them.
"If you really think that your families will fall for your group's leaders, you're all wrong. Eunuch Liu had sent the imperial soldiers to investigate your families. They'll die sooner or later," I utter, smirking devilishly.
I wonder if it will be effective on these snakes. I've had friends who are doctors in different fields of different field in medicine.
As for me, I was aiming to be a surgeon after passing the board of international law. I even live abroad and took law at Harvard.
That's when my best friend and fiancée started to get close and cheat on me. Damn it!
"We will never tell you. If I were you, your Highness, I beg for your life. Pray to all the shrines in the entire empire. You will meet the netherworld sooner than you blink," one of them warns.
I know they're serious. As assassins, they have reputations that they want to protect. Some of them were selfish enough.
They don't care about their family. I stood up and walked closer, glaring at them.
"A tiger who wishes to devour its prey that is smarter than him was life jumping on the fire, even if you knew it would turn you to ashes. There are prey that are not bound to die, but they're bound to be your greatest downfall," I whispered, smirking again.
I turn around and look at the soldier. "Tell your general Li to get them."
I went to my study hall and checked the memorials that Eunuch Liu placed on the table. "I'll go and get you some tea," he says.
I simply nod. While staring at these reports, I remember how I struggled a lot when I became the chairman of Li Group.
My parents suddenly died, and at the age of 20, I had to run a multibillion-dollar company. It took me a while to learn whom I should trust and who I shouldn't.
"I wonder if those two are now married after they killed me. But I'm here, living in an era that I only watched in drama series. What a twist of fate," I mumbled softly.
I frowned. These reports were from the inner court. It's the chambers of my late father's concubines.
Eunuch Liu enters and starts lighting the coal. He put water in the kettle and some jasmine leaves for tea.
"Uncle, how many concubines did Father have again?" I ask.
He closed the lid and looked at me. "Your Highness, your father had 107 concubines. Five of them are royal concubines, and ten hold noble consort titles," he says.
This memorial came from one of the concubine chambers. I stood up when I read the last part.
"Eunuch Liu, summon the imperial physician. We will go to Consort Wang's chamber. Her servant sent this memorial," I remarked.
He bows his head and leaves. The wind is chilling today. Autumn is approaching soon. I grab my fur coat and wrap it around me.
"Chen Da Xi, did you know where concubine Wang's chamber is?" I ask. She nodded.
"Lead the way. Let's go," I remarked.
We're walking faster as we head into her chamber. We made turns from left to right.
The servants who were working around were surprised to see me entering the chambers of my late father's concubine.
"This way, your highness," Chen Da Xi says.
I was taken aback when we made the turn. All I saw was an almost-destroyed house, and the yard was too lonely.
If a typhoon occurs, this house will be flown away! I lift my skirt and enter the room.
"Your Highness! The imperial physician is here!" Eunuch Liu calls.
I turn around. I was surprised when I saw my three husbands with them. "Your Highness…?! Your Highness! My master!" a woman says.
She's a maidservant, and her clothes were too old and had patches! "Let's get inside!"
She led us the way. I pushed the door, and it fell down! I saw the vine that they used to keep it together.
"Doctor, check her right away!" I remarked.
I was taken aback when I saw that the curtains were technically ragged. This place has no furniture.
It only had a table and two chairs! The doctor checks her pulse. She's too skinny and pale! Her blanket is not even a blanket anymore.
I took off my coat and pulled away the blanket. I cough. It's made of dust! Her clothes were the same as those of her servant.
"Your Highness, she needs a better place. Her pulse was still strong. May I suggest if we..." the doctor paused.
He looks at me with such scared eyes. I take a seat on the bed. "Get her up. Wrap her hands around my neck."
He looks at me. "Now!" I roared.
He was startled and did as I said. I held her butt. "Hey, you! I mean her servant. Wrap the coat behind her," I command.
"Your Highness, we can carry her," Li Jin suggests.
"No time. Let's go!" I stood up and dashed outside. I have to save this woman!
