Chương 42: We Are Different

A group of young teenagers, each with tired expressions and damaged equipment, entered the guild hall.

The group walked straight to the counter, where the leader, a boy with fluffy brown hair, smiled at the receptionist and said, "Miss Emma, could you please prepare some food for us? The usual will do."

"Ah, Hero, welcome back," the receptionist said, breathing a sigh of relief as she saw the group enter. She had been worried about the lack of adventurers coming to the guild recently, but with the hero back, perhaps it marked a good beginning. She smiled professionally and continued, "Please wait a moment, and I'll have your food prepared right away."

The brown-haired boy didn't head straight to the dining area but instead voiced the question that had been on his mind since entering. "Miss Emma, why is the guild so quiet today? Did something happen?"

A tall girl with a single ponytail and outstanding demeanor stood to the boy's right, adding, "Yeah, Miss Emma, it's usually bustling when we come here. Where is everyone?"

Hearing their questions, the receptionist hesitantly glanced upstairs, showing a troubled expression, then tentatively asked, "Do you know two very pretty, extremely strong blonde girls?"

"I don't know them."

"I see..." The receptionist fell silent after receiving his answer, her curiosity about Eriri and Auretea's identities only growing.

Seeing her hesitation, a muscular boy with short hair stepped forward impatiently, demanding, "Hey, just say what happened! Why are you being so vague?"

"Ah..."

The sudden loud voice startled the receptionist, causing her to step back involuntarily.

"Ryutarou, watch your tone! I apologize, Miss Emma; he's just straightforward and doesn't mean any harm," said the ponytailed girl, bowing her head in apology.

Seeing the girl apologize, the receptionist blushed and said, "Ah... I didn't mind. Please, raise your head, Miss Yaegashi."

"Let it go, Ryutarou. There's probably a reason behind it. If Miss Emma doesn't want to say, we shouldn't push her," the brown-haired boy said, patting the short-haired boy on the shoulder to stop him.

Looking back at the receptionist, the boy was about to speak again when impatient voices came from behind him.

"It doesn't matter right now. I'm starving and just want to eat."

"Yeah, it's probably just a coincidence anyway."

"..."

Hearing his companions' complaints, the brown-haired boy gave the receptionist an embarrassed smile before leading the group upstairs.

These teenagers were none other than the heroes summoned from another world, just returning from the Orcus Labyrinth.

After the entire class was summoned to this world named Tortus, they had been training in the labyrinth to defeat the demons, save humanity, and return home.

After a recent accident in the labyrinth, where a classmate fell into the depths, many lost their fighting spirit and hid in the capital, leading aimless lives. The rest continued exploring the labyrinth with their own goals in mind.

...

"Oh? Did someone come in?" Eriri and Auretea, who were enjoying their meal, noticed the commotion as the door opened. Eriri scanned the downstairs with her awareness, revealing a meaningful smile. "So it's them."

"Who came in?" Auretea asked, turning her head curiously. She continued to eat, delicately chewing a piece of meat made from some unknown creature.

"The heroes summoned from another world."

"Oh? You mean the super goody-two-shoes hero and some villains?"

"Exactly," Eriri nodded with a pleased smile. "What do you think would happen if we exposed the two villains among them?"

Auretea's eyes lit up with excitement at the suggestion. "Haha, that sounds interesting! I wonder if they'd punish their classmates after learning the truth."

"I doubt it. With the hero's self-righteous personality, he'll probably act as if nothing happened," Eriri chuckled, not optimistic about a dramatic outcome. "But hey, we're just doing it for fun. Whatever happens, happens."

"Yeah."

...

Led by the brown-haired boy, Kouki Amanogawa, the heroes—Japanese high school students from another world—climbed the stairs to the guild's second floor.

As they entered the dining area, they saw a massive table made of six large tables put together. It was covered with a wide variety of dishes. Beside the table, two girls of breathtaking beauty sat together, enjoying the food. Their eating manners were impeccable, a pleasure to watch, but from the half-empty plates, it was clear they had consumed nearly twenty portions worth of food—a staggering appetite!

The scene left Kouki and his friends both awed and bewildered.

As everyone remained in a daze, the ponytailed girl, Shizuku Yaegashi, noticed Eriri and Auretea's attire. Her heart skipped a beat, and she rushed forward with excitement.

"Are those Japanese school uniforms you're wearing? Are you from Japan too?"

Eriri nodded and said bluntly, "Yes, these are school uniforms from a high school in Tokyo, Japan."

"Tokyo... then..."

"But!" Eriri interrupted before Shizuku could finish, turning to her with a mysterious smile. "Though we're not from this world, we're not from your world either."
