At the O2 Arena, after the WBC-WBA boxing title unification match, other weight class competitions continued on the stage.
Interested spectators could continue watching, while those who weren't could leave early.
Most of the audience chose to get up and leave, and the once packed boxing arena gradually became sparse.
Gary, holding a recorder, randomly interviewed several spectators, asking for their opinions on the match.
Eighty percent of the interviewees gave positive feedback, saying the match was exciting and that watching boxing live was more stimulating than watching it on TV.
A few people said that if Karl Franch had been a bit stronger or the match had lasted longer, it would have been better, and many said they hadn't had enough.
While interviewing, his phone rang.
Charlotte called, excitedly telling him that Emma Watson had just gone to the locker room with Link's assistant, Anna.
"Really? Is she alone?" Gary asked in surprise.
"Daniel and Robert are also there. Want to take a look? You have a press pass, maybe the staff will let you in," Charlotte suggested.
Gary thought for a moment and decided to give up.
The locker room at the back of the arena was guarded by security and bodyguards, making it difficult to approach.
Also, with Daniel and Robert present, they couldn't meet in front of them.
Maybe they were just chatting about the match.
He didn't want to make another wasted trip like yesterday.
Charlotte was disappointed when she heard him give up, as it meant their work for the past two days had been in vain.
Gary felt embarrassed and offered to buy him a drink over the weekend.
Leaving the O2 Arena, Gary drove back to the Sun newspaper office. While organizing his drafts, he received a call from the thief, Biggs.
Gary patted his forehead, almost forgetting that he should have asked Biggs to check out of the room, saving a day's expenses.
But before he could speak, Biggs shouted in a strange voice, "Bernard, there's a woman in Link's room! I bet Link is in the room dating a woman."
"How do you know?"
Suddenly, Gary remembered that Biggs had installed a listening device in Link's room. "You eavesdropped?"
"Hehe, that's right. Send me your email and I'll send it over for you to listen to."
"Okay!"
Gary quickly opened his computer. A few minutes later, he received an audio file in his email and clicked to listen.
Knock, knock, knock!
The door creaked open.
The sound in the audio was very clear.
"Hey, why are you here?"
This was Link's voice.
"Can't I come?"
Hearing this voice, Gary jumped up from his seat, startling his colleague next door.
"Bernard, what's wrong?"
Gary ignored him and replayed the audio.
The second sentence was definitely a woman's voice, and the woman was familiar with Link.
"Biggs, well done! Send me another one, let me hear whose voice it is."
Gary said, suppressing his excitement.
After leaving the O2 Arena, he had planned to give up, giving up the £100,000 bonus and the chance for promotion and a raise. He was very depressed.
But this audio from Biggs rekindled his ambition. Maybe a promotion and a raise weren't just a dream.
"Emm, there's only this one."
Biggs replied with a message.
"Only this one?!"
Gary thought Biggs was trying to raise the price and said unhappily, "Biggs, we're partners. Only by finding evidence of Link cheating can we get the bonus. You can too. Don't forget, I paid for your hotel."
"There really is only this one."
Biggs explained the reason later.
Gary gritted his teeth in anger. This good-for-nothing couldn't even install a listening device properly and dared to call himself a master thief. Bullshit!
While cursing, the editor-in-chief, Joseph, walked over with a color photocopy in his hand and placed it on his desk.
"Bernard, Kent called and said he saw Link's assistant take an unidentified woman into the hotel. Go and support Kent, try to get some clear photos."
Joseph tapped his finger on the photocopy.
Gary looked at the color photocopy. It was a blurry photo of two women.
The one in front could vaguely be recognized as Link's assistant, Anna.
The one behind was wearing a sunhat and large sunglasses, with a tall figure and long legs. From her physique, she didn't look like Emma Watson.
Gary thought this woman should be the female protagonist in the audio.
But hearing that Joseph said this photo was taken by Kent, he felt very unhappy.
Kent was his competitor. If he went to support Kent and they captured evidence of Link cheating, Kent would get more credit.
But this was a task assigned by Joseph, and he couldn't refuse.
Gary agreed, grabbed his bag and camera, and left the newspaper building.
---
On the way, Gary also notified Charlotte and Officer Ryder, asking them to stake out at the hotel entrance and try to capture evidence of Link cheating.
He didn't want to cooperate with Kent on this secret filming.
With Kent there, even if they got any big news, the credit would go to Kent. He didn't want to hand over the credit to his opponent.
When he arrived at the London Tower Hotel, Charlotte and Officer Ryder also arrived one after another. The three went to Biggs' room together to discuss their next move.
"Damn it, you dare to secretly install listening devices in the hotel? Do you know this is a crime?"
Hearing that Biggs was monitoring Link's room, Officer Ryder habitually touched his waist, but he was in plainclothes and didn't feel his handcuffs.
Biggs was startled by his action and instinctively moved away from him, waving his hands and saying, "Hey, Officer Ryder, please calm down. We're partners now, trying to make big money."
Gary saw James Ryder's gloomy face and thought to himself that he had made a mistake.
Although Ryder wanted to earn some extra money, he didn't intend to break the law. Bringing him to the crime scene rashly wasn't a good idea.
"James, we're making money. Can you put aside your identity for now?"
Charlotte squinted, looking at the monitoring equipment on the table with some interest.
"James, I also know this is wrong, but there's no other way now. Can you just pretend you didn't see it? Biggs will dismantle it afterwards, and no one will know about this."
Gary also persuaded.
Officer Ryder frowned, sat on the opposite sofa, and fell silent.
Seeing Officer Ryder give in, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
"Biggs, are Link and that woman still in the hotel? Have you heard anything else?"
Gary asked.
Biggs shrugged helplessly and said, "No, except for Link ordering a table of French cuisine from room service at five o'clock, I haven't heard anything else. But I guess they might be eating French cuisine now, preparing for a date."
"Guessing is useless. We need them to come out and capture photos of them on a date to get the bonus."
Gary said helplessly.
"Biggs, you can sneak into Link's room, why not install a camera?"
Charlotte asked.
"You think I haven't thought about it? But there's no Wi-Fi here, connecting a camera requires a network cable, the workload is too big, I can't do it alone."
Biggs curled his lip.
The three thought for a while, but there was no way. Link didn't want to go out, and they couldn't break in.
"I have an idea, but it's a bit risky. Do you want to try it?"
Biggs grinned, showing his rotten teeth.
"What idea?"
Gary and Charlotte looked at him and asked.
Biggs took out a toolkit from the cabinet, opened it, and then took out a bundle of nylon rope, pulleys, winches, and other tools.
"What are you going to do?"
"Hehe, there are bodyguards guarding Link's door, so we can't break in. I've seen the location of Link's room. If we hang down from the hotel roof, we can just reach his room. We can go in through the window and take a candid photo while they're messing around in the room. What do you think?"
Biggs chuckled.
"Breaking and entering to take photos, you'll get at least five years if caught."
Officer Ryder said with a stern face.
"But do you have a better way?"
Biggs looked at the three and asked.
"No, the newspaper wouldn't dare to publish photos taken this way."
Gary shook his head. If the newspaper dared to publish illegally obtained photos, Link's legal team would sue the Sun until it went bankrupt, and he himself would lose his job or even go to jail. It wasn't worth it.
"Hey, guys, can you open your minds and be bolder? Do you know who Link is? He's a real billionaire. We just need to get evidence of him cheating and then threaten him.
For his personal reputation, he wouldn't hesitate to spend millions of pounds to settle this matter. Even if it's only £1 million, and the four of us split it, each person gets £200,000."
"It's £250,000."
Charlotte reminded him.
"That's right. If we extort £1 million from Link, each of us gets £250,000. If we extort £4 million, each of us gets £1 million. Guys, £1 million. If we succeed, we'll all be millionaires. Don't you want to be millionaires?"
Biggs said excitedly.
Millionaires?
Hearing this title, Officer Ryder couldn't help but feel a flicker of temptation in his eyes. If he became a millionaire, he could live in a villa, drive a luxury car, buy hundreds of pairs of roller skates for his son Harry, and many designer bags for Louise.
He wouldn't have to continue patrolling the streets, could find a more leisurely job, and would be respected by more people, becoming someone above others.
Being a millionaire felt great.
But what if they failed?
Jail time, unemployment, bankruptcy, and Louise would leave him.
Thinking of this, Officer Ryder glared at Biggs and scolded, "Damn you, Kuro Biggs! Do you want us to go to jail with you?"
"Officer Ryder, don't say it so harshly. We all know making money isn't easy. If you want to be a millionaire, you can't do it without taking some risks."
Biggs chuckled.
Gary also shook his head. "I disagree too. I just want to make some money, but I never thought about committing a crime."
Charlotte glanced at Biggs and said with a squint, "I think so too."
"I have something else to do, I'll go first."
Officer Ryder said hello and left the hotel room.
"Biggs, continue monitoring. If Link leaves the hotel, remember to let me know."
Gary also took his camera and bag and left.
Charlotte shook her head and followed.
"Fuck! A bunch of cowards. You'll never get rich like this."
Biggs stomped his feet and cursed.
Knock, knock, knock!
Over an hour later, as the sky gradually darkened, Biggs took out his toolkit and was about to act alone when there was a knock on the door.
Biggs walked to the peephole, took a look, grinned, and opened the door.
