As Michael trudged to school, his backpack weighing him down.
As he approached the entrance, he saw groups of students laughing and chatting.
He felt a pang of isolation, remembering how he usually ate lunch alone and sat in the back of the classroom.
As he walked through the hallways, he noticed familiar faces, but no one greeted him.
He was invisible, a ghost drifting through the crowds.
He wondered if anyone would even notice if he disappeared.
Michael spotted Emily, a classmate who always seemed to be surrounded by friends.
She caught his eye and smiled, but he quickly looked away, unsure how to respond.
He continued to his locker, his heart heavy with the familiar feeling of loneliness.
As he switched out his books, he heard snippets of conversation from nearby students, but none of it was directed at him.
Just as he was about to head to his first class, he saw a new student, Alex, standing alone and looking lost.
Michael hesitated, remembering his own struggles to connect with others.
He considered approaching Alex but doubted he'd be able to offer any meaningful help.
As Michael walked away from his locker, he couldn't shake off the feeling of loneliness.
He wondered if anyone would even notice if he disappeared.
He thought about Alex, the new student, and how he had hesitated to approach him.
Michael's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of his phone buzzing in his pocket.
He pulled it out, hoping for a message from someone, anyone.
But his heart sank when he saw it was just a reminder about an upcoming math test.
Feeling defeated, Michael trudged to his first class, his mind wandering to all the things he wished he could change about his life.
As Michael walked into his first class, he spotted Alex sitting alone at a desk.
He took a deep breath and decided to approach him. "Hey, Alex, right? I'm Michael.
We met earlier at our lockers," he said, trying to sound friendly.
Alex looked up and smiled. "Oh, yeah! Hi, Michael. Thanks for coming over."
Michael sat down next to Alex and they started chatting about their shared class.
As they talked, Michael felt a glimmer of hope that he might have finally found someone to connect with.
But when the teacher started the lesson, Michael's anxiety returned.
He struggled to follow the complex math concepts and felt his face grow hot with frustration.
Just as he was starting to relax, the teacher called on him to solve a problem on the board.
Michael's heart sank. He stumbled over his words and struggled to write the correct solution.
The teacher gently corrected him, but Michael felt embarrassed and defeated.
He glanced at Alex, who was watching him with a sympathetic expression.
"Hey, don't worry, Michael," Alex whispered. "We've all been there. I struggled in my last school too."
Michael smiled weakly, feeling a small sense of relief. Maybe, just maybe, he had found someone who understood him who could be his friend.
