Chương 20: Katarina III
As the crowd dispersed I followed Katherine's scent, eventually I ended up at a clearing with a stone slab against a stone structure that stuck out from the ground. I was close to the graveyard. I could smell a dozen other vampires in the tomb with her and I sighed.
'She really got captured this time around, she didn't manage to escape.'
I lifted the large stone that blocked the entrance with my power and stepped into the tomb, I had to make this quick. Damon and Stefan were waiting for my help in escaping the town. The vampires had all been knocked out by a spell. I found her towards the back, her olive skin covered in dirt, her dress torn and bloodied. I knelt beside her and prodded her, her eyes slowly open, she sees me and there's a sharp intake of air as she gasps. I grin at her and lean over her.
"You look like you've seen a ghost Katarina."
Her voice was weak as she spoke. "Seth? How- How are you alive?"
"Ask the alligator, his blood helped."
"W-what?"
"I'm just here to say goodbye to Katarina. You betrayed my trust, for what we once had I will spare your life. In return you will tell me why you came back here."
"Klaus he- he bled the vervain from my blood after I gave him the moonstone and compelled me to abduct Stefan, thought nothing of it. But then time went on and I realized that the information he had given me about my daughter was a lie."
"Mmm, doesn't feel too good being lied to does it?"
"Seth, I'm sor-"
"Save your breath." I raise a hand. "Continue, why are you here?"
She sighs, "He wasn't happy when I tried to escape with Stefan, he compelled me to take Stefan back here and to turn him before attacking the town."
"So how did you end up getting captured with these assholes?"
"I- I knew something like this would happen, I had told Emily that if I ever came back to this town that Klaus more than likely compelled me to do something. I instructed her to stop me and whoever else was with me. The comet was just a lucky convenience that boosted her power."
'So far her story seems plausible, I can see Klaus doing the things she said.'
"Very well, you have given me answers." I picked her up and carried her out of the tomb.
The wards didn't affect me nor anyone I was touching it seemed. Setting her down, I looked at her one last time.
"I may believe your story but that does not mean I forgive your betrayal, for the sake of the feelings I had once towards you I will give you a day to make your preparations. Then you will leave this place. If I ever see you again I will not hesitate to rip out your heart."
She pales and tears begin to form in her eyes. "Seth I'm sorry."
"Save it Petrova, I offered you help and your life back. You took that and spat in my face. Maybe one day I will consider your apology but it is not this day."
Before she could reply I slam the stone back over the entrance of the tomb making her spin around to look at it, while she's distracted I fly off into the night sky and back to my estate.
[Scene Break]
The brothers were sitting in my cellar, Stefan had come around he looked up at me with regret. They stood up as I approached them.
"How are you two holding up?"
"We'll manage. How's the town?"
"The mayor burned the church down, they trapped over a dozen vampires in the place before they set it ablaze. Katherine was one of the vampires."
The brothers look at one another, "What else happened?"
"Emily Bennett is a witch, she used magic to transfer the vampires to a tomb they cannot escape from. Katherine escaped before she could be sealed in the tomb."
"That- That's a lot to take in."
"Is it normal for me to feel so strongly about having been used?"
"Yeah, heightened emotions are normal for your species. Though you could switch your morality off, I wouldn't recommend it though. The emotional weight isn't worth the momentary pleasures it grants."
"Shut off our morality?"
"Stefan, you of all people should not shut off your morality. You're already impulsive as is."
"Ha! Hear that Stef, you are impulsive."
"You're not much better Damon, when Katherine came you drooled after her the second she looked at you."
"That's not true, is it Seth?"
"It is, now stop arguing and follow me. I have something for the two of you."
I led them to my vault, their eyes grew wide at the sight of the piles of gold and crates of gems. I went over to my safe and unlocked it. Taking out two boxes I passed them to the brothers. Opening them they looked at the twin pair of Lapis Lazuli signet rings that I had made for them. I had gone back to New Orleans and in return for a favor I did for a witch I had her enchant the two rings. I had the jeweler make them exactly how I remembered them in the show. Damon's had a gothic 'D' on his and Stefan had an 'S' on the inside of the band I had 'Salvatore' engraved into the metal.
"They're daylight rings, magic sun blocking rings enchanted to let you walk in the day. I had them made for you as soon as I suspected that Katherine was a vampire."
"I- Thank you Seth." Stefan put his on as Damon followed suit.
Nodding, I led them over to a table I had in the center of the room. I unrolled a map onto it and pointed at the location of Silas' island.
"This is an uninhabited island further up north, use it to lay low, there's a cave on the island you can use for shelter. There's also a beach and it should be close enough to civilization where you can get blood, there's also animals should you want to avoid drinking human blood. Do you two have any questions?"
"Why are you doing all this for us?"
"Because I can, and because I think you two are decent men that deserve a second chance. Take this as an opportunity to start over, settle down once you figure stuff out. When things settle down here I'll come find you so you can come back. I'm sure someone will take care of your home."
"Thank you."
"Don't thank me yet, thank me when you guys make it out of here alive. Well as alive as you can be."
They chuckle at the slight joke, I gave them a few gold coins each and bid them farewell as they went off on their journey north. I made sure that they weren't noticed by the townsfolk or followed by anyone for a few miles before turning back and heading home.
