Chương 43: Chapter 43 : Flames of Retribution

The air around the reservoir buzzed with tension as Tangyue stood tall, her sharp gaze locked onto Chao He.

"There's nothing more to say to a scum like you!" she spat, her voice cold as ice. Fire sparked beneath her feet, slowly forming an intricate Star Atlas, as her mana gathered. She would not allow someone like him to walk away after all he had done.

Chao He, standing not far away, flashed a wicked grin that sent a chill through the air. "Do you think I'll go down like this, Miss Tangyue? Aren't you a little naive?" His voice dripped with malice, his eyes glinting with sinister intent.

Tangyue's face darkened. Just as she prepared to unleash the fire swirling within her, a thick, cloudy mist began surging from the side, quickly expanding into the sky above the small reservoir. The once clear air turned heavy and oppressive, and darkness descended upon the area like a shroud. The very light of the sun was blotted out by the sinister black clouds, casting everything into a stifling, eerie gloom. Even the bright flames from her Fire Soul Seed flickered helplessly in the face of this unnatural darkness, unable to penetrate the dense, consuming blackness.

The whole area plunged into pitch-black night in an instant.

Tangyue squinted, trying to see through the overwhelming darkness, but it was as though the world had been swallowed by the void. She could no longer see Chao He's shadow, as if it had been absorbed into the very essence of the black mist that filled the area.

Free from her earlier restriction, Chao He began to laugh, the sound echoing unnervingly through the darkness. It was a cruel, mocking laugh, filled with malice.

"I forgot to tell you, Miss Tangyue," he called out, his voice unnervingly calm. "I was aware you were trailing me for days. While you were busy pretending to be a traveller, eating at the local restaurants… I was busy as well. I made sure you had a taste of my special brew."

Tangyue's eyes widened as his words sank in. Her heart raced as she realized what he meant. **Poison?** How had she not sensed it?

Chao He chuckled darkly, sensing her shock. "You wouldn't have noticed, of course, but tell me… don't your lips feel a little dry?" His words carried an almost playful tone, but the venom underneath was unmistakable.

Despite herself, Tangyue licked her lips, suddenly aware of the dryness in her throat. A flash of worry crossed her mind, but she quickly suppressed it. She couldn't afford to show weakness now.

Within moments, however, the dryness escalated into a more concerning feeling. Tangyue's face flushed unnaturally red, and her pulse quickened beyond her control. Her blood seemed to be rushing too fast through her veins, her heart pounding in her chest. Worse still, her skin tingled as though something invisible was crawling over her, biting into her concentration.

Her breathing became heavier, a strange heat creeping over her body. Her limbs felt weak, as if the strength was being drained out of her. Panic flared in her mind as she realized what was happening. It wasn't just poison. It was something far worse—something designed to tear down her mental defenses, to make her vulnerable in a way no mere toxin could.

The sudden wave of dizziness that followed made her want to lean against something, anything, to steady herself. Worse still, a strange longing began creeping into her thoughts, one she knew had nothing to do with her, but everything to do with Chao He's twisted concoction.

"Shameless, shameless!!!" Tangyue's voice cracked as her fury mixed with humiliation. This wretched man! To think he would stoop so low, using a drug to violate her mind and body. Anger and disgust warred within her, but her limbs continued to betray her. Her body burned with the poison's influence, and she fought against it with every ounce of willpower she had left.

Deep within the woods, Light had seen everything unfolding before him. He had arrived just in time to witness Chao He's vile plan come into motion. His stomach churned at the sight. He had trained to face all sorts of enemies, but this—this was beyond reprehensible.

Yet despite what he saw, Light found himself hesitating. Should he step in now or wait for the right moment to strike? He knew Tangyue was powerful, but under the effects of whatever poison Chao He had slipped into her food, her strength was compromised.

"You swine! I'll burn you to ashes!!" Tangyue roared, her voice hoarse with rage.

The force of her voice shook Light from his moment of indecision. He watched in awe as Tangyue gathered every ounce of strength she had left and unleashed her fire magic.

"Phoenix Flame!" she cried, her voice ringing through the darkened sky.

A roaring flame burst forth from the Fire Star Atlas beneath her feet, a brilliant scarlet red like a noble, otherworldly blaze. It wasn't the ordinary fire of most mages; it was something far more majestic and deadly—the legendary Phoenix Flame.

"Fiery Fist! Nine Palaces!" Tangyue bellowed, her hands igniting with crimson flames. Her power surged as the earth around her split open, and nine molten cracks snaked across the ground like fiery serpents, each one unleashing a powerful shockwave of molten energy.

The flames surged upward, devouring the air and everything in their path. The sheer heat from the spell scorched the air, and even in the darkness, the Phoenix Flame lit up the entire area like a second sun. It was overwhelming, the kind of power only someone like Tangyue could wield.

Light stood in awe, witnessing the sheer devastation of her magic. It was his first time seeing Tangyue at full power, and the sight left him speechless. Even from where he stood, hidden in the trees, he could feel the heat searing his skin.

The force of the Nine Palaces Violent Fist slammed into the earth, sending a fiery shockwave throughout the reservoir area. The ground split apart, and what was once a serene body of water was now a burning wasteland.

When the flames finally subsided, Light's eyes darted toward where Chao He had stood. Could anyone have survived that?

But to his surprise—and horror—Chao He was still standing. His body was covered in a thick layer of rock armor, but the heat from the Phoenix Flame had scorched it black. The rock was cracked, peeling off bit by bit, revealing his badly burned body beneath.

Chao He coughed, a rasping sound escaping his smoke-filled lungs. His face twisted in anger as he brushed away the remnants of his scorched armor. "You… you've destroyed my treasured armor!" he growled, his voice thick with rage. His eyes glinted with malevolence. "You think you can stop me with just this? You'll pay for this humiliation with your body, Tangyue. And after that, maybe I'll let you die."

Light's heart raced. He could see Tangyue struggling against the effects of the poison, her breathing growing more labored, her body trembling as if she were fighting an invisible force. Chao He's curse magic, combined with the drug, was slowly overwhelming her.

He couldn't wait any longer.

As Chao He took a step toward Tangyue, his violent gaze fixated on her trembling form, Light made his move.

"**Telekinesis: Heart Crush**," Light whispered, his eyes glowing with power as he summoned his magic from the shadows.

The air around Chao He suddenly shifted, and before the man could react, an invisible force slammed into his chest. His eyes widened in shock and fear as the force bypassed his defenses and crushed his heart with a single, powerful squeeze.

Chao He's body stiffened, his mouth opening in a silent scream. He staggered, his hands clutching his chest, but it was already too late. His heart had been crushed, his life snuffed out in an instant.

The twisted grin on his face was frozen in place as he collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
