Jessica sat on the edge of her bed, staring out of the window at the gentle sway of the tree.
She had been in her room since Damon left for work and Emily left for school. She was avoiding Lilian.
As much as Lilian seemed to have a sweet personality, something told Jessica that the woman had a mean side to her and she would do best to avoid her.
She couldn't help but be grateful for Emily's presence during dinner the last night and breakfast this morning. Emily had helped take the attention off her. Jessica thought with a sigh as she sank back against the pillows.
A soft knock on the door pulled her from her thoughts. She sat up quickly, her heart skipping a beat as she called out, "Come in."
The door creaked open, and Lilian stepped inside, her perfectly composed face framed by soft waves of hair. Jessica immediately stiffened, the room feeling smaller with Lilian's presence.
