Chapter 26: Aunt Mikoto Would Never Do Such a Thing

In the training room.
"Hahaha, Izumi, is this all there is to your Uchiha swordsmanship?" Yuugao Uzuki taunted, blocking Izumi Uchiha's short sword, her face close to Izumi's.
After spending a long time together, Yuugao and Izumi had become very familiar with each other, often sparring together. They were close in age and similar in strength, making their matches quite even.
Yuugao used Konoha-style swordsmanship, while Izumi used Uchiha swordsmanship. Neither held the other's style in high regard.
Yuugao had a higher natural talent for swordsmanship, while Izumi had the advantage of her Sharingan. Their battles were intense and evenly matched.
"Hmph! Today, I'll show you the true power of the Sharingan!" Izumi retorted, her three-tomoe Sharingan flaring to life as she launched a fierce attack on Yuugao.
"Tch." Yuugao, unfazed, focused entirely on defending.
Their rapid exchange of blows filled the room with the constant clang of clashing weapons.
At the door of the training room, Mikoto Uchiha stood with a slight blush, watching the fierce sparring match. She turned to Shishou Aburame, standing beside her. "Why doesn't Izumi use genjutsu?" she asked.
Shishou, observing the battle, was puzzled. "Izumi has the three-tomoe Sharingan. If she used her eye-based genjutsu, her combat effectiveness would increase significantly."
"Even among the Uchiha, not everyone has a high aptitude for genjutsu," Mikoto explained with a sigh. "Izumi isn't very skilled in that area, and neither am I, so I can't teach her much."
"I see," Shishou replied thoughtfully. He remembered that in the original story, Sasuke's genjutsu skills weren't particularly strong either. To fight Itachi, he needed Orochimaru's help to create a genjutsu counter.
Sasuke's three-tomoe Sharingan was rarely used for genjutsu in combat, except for controlling Manda and some minor uses. It was clear he wasn't naturally inclined towards genjutsu.
To be like Itachi or Shisui, who could defeat opponents with a mere glance, required exceptional talent in genjutsu, which wasn't common even among those with the Mangekyo Sharingan.
After Yuugao and Izumi finished their sparring, Shishou gathered Mikoto, Izumi, and Yuugao to head towards Grass Ninja Village to find Karin Uzumaki. He had two objectives: assess the current strength of the three women and recruit Karin early.
Karin had lived a miserable life in Grass Ninja Village, treated as a chakra battery by their ninja until she met Orochimaru. Shishou needed powerful sensory techniques to enhance his mastery of the Flying Thunder God technique, and Karin's Kagura Mind's Eye was perfect for that.
"Izumi, Yuugao," Shishou called as they walked. "You two have been glancing at me the whole time. Are you captivated by my dashing looks?" he joked.
Izumi blushed but said nothing. She had imagined their savior as an older, renowned ninja, not someone younger than herself. The thought of Mikoto's relationship with Shishou seemed absurd to her. She couldn't believe Aunt Mikoto, the wife of the Uchiha clan leader, would act improperly.
"Tch, don't flatter yourself," Yuugao retorted. "You just look familiar, like I've seen you somewhere before."
Shishou understood Yuugao's confusion. During his survival training, Yuugao had secretly watched over him, but he had appeared as a seven-year-old. Seeing him now as a teenager, she couldn't make the connection immediately.
Mikoto also looked puzzled. In her memory, there was only one seven-year-old in the Aburame clan named Shishou, a classmate of Sasuke. There were no other teenagers with that name, making her think "Shishou" was an alias. It seemed impossible that the young child she remembered could be the teenager before her.
"Don't worry, you'll understand in due time. Just call me Shishou," he said with a smile, noticing their curiosity.
"Tch," Yuugao huffed, turning away.
"Traveling is tiring. Let's take the 101 route," Shishou suggested, forming hand seals.
With a puff of smoke, a massive centipede appeared under Shishou's feet. It was the giant centipede he had spared in the Forest of Death, now his summoning beast.
The red-armored centipede, though not as large as Orochimaru's Manda, was still impressive. Shishou had nicknamed it "Aka."
Seeing Shishou summon the centipede, Mikoto and Izumi were unfazed as they had encountered it in the Forest of Death. However, Yuugao was a bit surprised. Large creatures in the ninja world were not uncommon, but ones that could be tamed and summoned were rare.
Once the three women were standing on the centipede's back, Shishou gave the command, "Let's go!"
With Shishou's directive, the red-armored centipede swiftly navigated through the forest towards Grass Ninja Village.
